Just caught up then realised the thread was full.

Sister Monica joan’s flowers.

Cried like a seal.

My garden didn’t bloom and for me the sunshine failed. My buds were perfect but not for here.

And the hairy bud who grew and blossomed in my care soaked up the love.

Missing the three of you more than you know. X

Blimey that was a near miss for poor little May. Even if she was reformed she didn't come over as particularly emotionally intelligent. I don't reckon I'd 've been happy with her as my nanny.

Shosha1 · 13/02/2020 13:46

@NumbersStation it caught me off guard as well. Two for me. Again a lifetime ago.

Always in my heart but I do t need to cry for them now.

But the scene sat on the bed looking at the baby in the moses basket, was like looking in a mirror.

PlomBear · 13/02/2020 14:47

I thought that Val already knew that her grandmother was a backstreet abortionist?

PlomBear · 13/02/2020 14:52

Zoe Wanamaker could play Trixies bohemian glamorous godmother Grin

MyOtherProfile · 14/02/2020 11:22

Helen Mitten would be a real coup!

MyOtherProfile · 14/02/2020 11:22

Shock Helen Mirren would be a close second Grin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/02/2020 11:59

Oh yes, I can see Zoe Wanamaker in the role!

icelolly99 · 14/02/2020 12:20

MyOtherProfile Helen Mitten..... Grin brilliant.

cheapskatemum · 14/02/2020 13:45

Or Imelda Staunton? Or, why not Judy Dench? In fact, it’s probably got to be Olivia Coleman, because she has the mandate to be in absolutely everything at the moment. Them’s the rules. Plus, she’s practised the posh accent, so it wouldn’t go to waste.

PenguinsOnParade · 14/02/2020 14:35

I vote for the wonderful Dame Julie Andrews for godmother. I wouldn't say no to Miranda Richardson or Zoe Wanamaker either though.

TileFloors · 14/02/2020 19:04

A friend of mine had terrible period pain when we were students in the late 90s. The GP did a house call (those were the days...) and gave her pethidine. So it did happen.

She didn’t go on to become an addict, by the way!

KayakingOnDown · 14/02/2020 21:18

The Pethedine sounds wonderful.

Going back to a previous poster, I too found Jenny Lee very cold and aloof and was glad when she left. I disliked Chummy too.

I now miss Barbara and even Patsy. I miss the lovely vicar. They need a new vicar.

I don't even know why I'm still watching it. It is ruined these days because Dr Turner is in almost every scene and he is so unbelievably annoying. He and Shelagh as a couple are so unrealistic and their screen time together adds nothing.

MyOtherProfile · 14/02/2020 23:12

I'm sure someone told me Dr turner's real life wife writes the scripts and that's why he is on so many bloody annoying scenes.

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2020 07:42

They ALL would make wonderful posh godmothers but my money's on Joanna Lumley, she's tweaked enough to still look glamorous too. (though aren't they all Sad )

BikeRunSki · 15/02/2020 07:50

@MyOtherProfile, you’re right. One of the Executive producers is Heidi Thomas, she’s married to Stephen McGann (Dr T) .

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2020 14:48

Kayacking The thing about Jenny Lee was that she was quite posh and had never been among poor people (the East End in those days was a different place from naice suburban London that had houses with bathrooms and hot running water etc.) she felt unable to cope with the smells etc. etc. ( I thought the actress did it well) but the stories, which were written by her, show how she becomes much more used to it and even loves it in the end.

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2020 14:53

I actually remember being shocked that one of my friends at school had no bathroom or hot water and an outside toilet. (she had a tin bath hanging in the kitchen) this was in 1962, a small Victorian house with one family so average North London.

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 15/02/2020 15:58

So I'm continuing my rewatch and there's singing at the new/current Nonnatus house with extra nuns! And its occurred to me - these extra nuns don't work, they don't get fed, they just sing occasionally and then totally disappear.

cheapskatemum · 15/02/2020 19:07

I think you're overthinking it, @TwoHeaded 😀

goingtotown · 15/02/2020 23:01

Fred & Violet Buckle’s relationship with Reggie is heartwarming.

MyOtherProfile · 16/02/2020 08:11

The extra nuns are probably fasting Grin

Winterfishing · 16/02/2020 09:23

Extra nuns! Maybe they're ghosts and only Sister Monica Joan can see them...

Fatalities from mansplaining in days gone by.

ppeatfruit · 16/02/2020 09:50

Yes Winter They're extras Grin
