Call the Midwife - nuns but no Nonnatus

Just caught up then realised the thread was full.

Sister Monica joan’s flowers.

Cried like a seal.

My garden didn’t bloom and for me the sunshine failed. My buds were perfect but not for here.

And the hairy bud who grew and blossomed in my care soaked up the love.

Missing the three of you more than you know. X

Still think that May is going to have an awful accident running about in her stockinged feet and guardianship issue will be a problem.

I’m still amazed that one of the girls hasn't got busy with scissors and given the other one a wonky chop.

Harriet Walter can do a clipped accent like no other. Just saying.

Love her. Smile. She is magnificent.

Still reckon it would be a hoot wheeling out Cher though!

Oh yes Harriet Walter would be great.

I thought that sister MJ's garden was going to be terrible ,with the nicked blankets, but IMO she seems to be getting over her dementia rather than worsening, like dm, which is truly a miracle. Hmm

Adoption and fostering was quite different in those days , of course the mum should have been allowed to have SOME contact with May, though it would have been difficult from Hong Kong

Sadly it’s unlikely we will get HW as she has already been buppy sister Ursula.

I too thought Joanna Lumley but it seems an unpopular choice.

I am doing some garden planning for the summer and we need to paint some bits and bobs - i have decided upon Teal for the theme in honour of this thread Grin

I rarely cry, but the waterworks were in force on Sunday night. The baby garden Sad I have two of my little flowers to add to this threads little garden. Flowers to all of our others xx

I thought it was an amazing touch when they all slept together in Warren's last moments Sad

I actually want the Turners to have May. She has settled so well as an evil twin and is so happy. We don't even have proof that this lady is May's mum do we?

Toddlerteaplease · 13/02/2020 12:07

I was surprised at how easily the adoption agency just accepted that she was May's mother with no proof.

Report
ppeatfruit · 13/02/2020 12:16

The other odd thing was that May's 'mum' was sitting in a park with a baby in a pram, she was also shown holding the baby at the end, not one person mentioned that baby. Unless I missed it.

I do know that in the early 60s babies were routinely taken away from unmarried mothers. My half sister was adopted that way, her young mum was given no choice. It was all kept a secret.

LIZS · 13/02/2020 12:22

May's mother was a nanny do assume baby was her charge.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/02/2020 12:23

@ppeatfruit they said she was a nanny looking after the children of a British ambassador. This is the job she would lose if she kept May.

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 13/02/2020 12:24

ppeatfruit I assumed that was the baby she was a nanny for, they said she was working for a military family who had brought her over for their holidays.

AAh thanks Two Silly me Blush I did miss that bit. I wonder what the family would've said if she suddenly wanted to take May back with her?

Me too @Toddlerteaplease in fact i shouted that at the TV Grin

It seems a bit unlikely though that a woman with a drugs-past in the 1960s would have been given a job as a nanny, don't you think? Particularly coming from HK where traditionally that type of role would be given to women from the Philippines.

This was donkeys years before DBS or any kind of check being possible, I suppose potential employers would rely on her references. These might have been supplied by her rehab institution or a priest or similar.

I hadn't really thought about the DBS angle at all really. Just thinking that people would generally have been very much less forgiving about drug abuse. However, you're probably right that one good reference would have been enough to secure such a job.

Oh she had nearly died from an OD ? (I must have missed that too !) I thought she had had malaria or something.

I love call the midwife and have only just caught up with this series. Very confused about the new doctor, he seemed lovely the first time we saw him, definitely wondering what is going to happen with this drug storyline
