They can't move Wimbledon though can they? The latest they can play on grass is September iirc when they had that Davis Cup tie there. So....

Happy St Patrick's day, sorry it's a bit of a late greeting. I like your sign Jane

Oh wow!

kazzaD66 · 17/03/2020 16:17

Yes, just heard about RG on the radio, doing the school run. Shock
Paris in the autumn time....and only a week after the US Open ends!
All eyes now on SW19 Hmm

Cake would be lovely private

Keep well everyone Flowers

kazzaD66 · 17/03/2020 16:30

Apparently, it will clash with the Laver Cup, so Rog won't be happy Hmm

PrivateSpidey · 17/03/2020 16:32

Tim won't let us down - he'll have Wimbledon sorted out. Come on Tim! Grin

I wonder how coordinated RG's decision was though? As you say kazza, the USO is only due to finish on 12 Sept, so they are wanting the players to switch from hard courts to clay in the space of a week, with no clay court build up?? Hmm

I reckon the three remaining Slams, Olympics and atp/wta tours should have got together and come up with a plan/schedule for the rest of the year? Unless that is what happened of course. The Olympics are saying they're still going ahead as planned for now Confused

I don't blame RG because it's already so close to the original start date, so they had to make a call, but hopefully it was with agreement all round!

So RG and US open in the same month ? Mind you, I suppose that's no different to how close together RG and Wimbledon have always been. Is the change from clay to hard less of a leap than clay to grass? The Laver Cup will have to be cancelled , surely?

I'm not sure about how late they can play Wimbledon- British weather being what it is. - unless they played the entire tournament on just the two covered courts. Which isn't feasible really Grin.

Raahh · 17/03/2020 16:37

x post Kazza, re Laver Cup.

Raahh · 17/03/2020 16:42

Tim might be co-ordinating a big dome over SW19 as we speak , so Wimbledon can go ahead in October.

Maybe.

Raahh · 17/03/2020 16:44

Will be a lot of tennis to watch, come September though.

Across different time zones, probably too, which will confuse me. And I am easily confused. Grin

magimedi · 17/03/2020 16:49

Just came on to say I'd seen that news. Don't see how they can do it with just a week between it & the US Open. Will Rafa not play US inorder to save himself for France??

PrivateSpidey · 17/03/2020 16:51

like the idea of the Big Dome - am imagining Tim as a sort of Green Lantern type character protecting SW19?!

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 17/03/2020 16:57

Will Rafa not play US inorder to save himself for France??

Well that's a possibility isn't it? I mean, he is defending both titles so it seems unfair he could have to make that decision... but I guess he would prioritise RG if he had to??

if he was allowed that is - slams are mandatory aren't they (apparently).

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 17/03/2020 17:02

Just seem on Twitter idea for a "super slam" to replace the others, changing surfaces every couple of rounds Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 17/03/2020 17:10

Spidey I like the idea of a superslam Grin

Or maybe they should all play crazy golf. With commentary. Rafa is pretty good at 'proper' golf.

JaneJeffer · 17/03/2020 17:17

Oh God no golf no no no!

Raahh · 17/03/2020 17:18

Jane not proper golf, crazy golf Grin.

Tim could build the course. Grin

PrivateSpidey · 17/03/2020 17:21

Grin that's more like it. We need creative solutions!!

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 17/03/2020 17:33

They could just do the coin toss and whoever wins gets through to the next coin toss. No doubt Djok would win them all.

kazzaD66 · 17/03/2020 17:36

The French Open hasn't always been mandatory for Fed private Grin

I'm liking the idea of them all playing crazy golf. As long as Peter Alliss continues to commentate and the butterfly fancier doesn't try to muscle in - he started off doing the golf on Sky or somewhere iirc.

It could definitely happen.....in our parallel universe Grin

I like your optimistic confidence in Tim's abilities to ensure that Wimbledon will continue regardless. I'm sure he's already got his hard hat thinking cap on Grin

Raahh · 17/03/2020 17:43

Good point about Roger kazzaGrin.

Raahh · 17/03/2020 17:44

What must AC be doing with his time, without beards and picnics to discuss?

Do you think he is self isolating, and commentating on himself in the mirror?

Fizzywinegum · 17/03/2020 17:45

Grin at Tim building a crazy golf course to replace Wimbledon - he’s probably drawing up plans as we speak - hope it’s got a windmill!

I’m not sure if they’ll be able to play all the GSs in such a short period of time - and that’s if things are a bit more settled by September - hopefully they will be.

Happy St Patrick’s Day Jane - hope your DSs have come out of self isolation - I’ve got both of mine at home as college and uni have been cancelled in terms of face to face lessons. Im slightly worried about my food stock - they eat so much!

Cake sounds good Spidey and sorry that you won’t be going to France magi. Hello to everyone else!

I’m worried about DM - she is 75 and lives on her own. She’s relatively healthy but I think from this weekend won’t be able to go out for 3 months. Obviously we will take her food and phone her up but I think it’s going to be really hard for her - anyway I know lots of other people are in the same boat Sad - it just all seems very surreal.

Is the Bake Off on tonight? I need some light relief - it would be funny if Jo Konta had to make a tennis cake (I also think they made that one up!) Grin

Raahh · 17/03/2020 17:46

Jane yy, sneaky Djok. He is going to win everything this year. He said so.

And he has, so far. Because everything has been cancelled Grin.

Raahh · 17/03/2020 17:47

Oh yes- it's Bake Off tonight.

I like Tuesdays. Holby is on too. Not that that will be light relief Grin.
