Fizzy hope your trip goes well.

PrivateSpidey · 13/03/2020 09:10

It was great when Andy beat Fed in London - although I wanted delpo to win in Rio because he'd had such a great tournament and was on (yet another comeback). That was an amazing match as well.

Have a lovely time in Portugal fizzy

magimedi · 13/03/2020 09:30

Have a great time, Fizzy.

Fizzywinegum · 13/03/2020 09:35

Thanks all - just on our way to the airport - a bit nervous but hopefully everything will be ok.

Loving all the best finals chat - Rafa v Roger at Wimbledon has got to be my favourite - I think I drank a (mini) bottle of champagne when Rafa won Grin. Goran winning Wimbledon (On a Monday) is also up there!

This will probably be unpopular but Ivan Lendl winning his first US Open is also one of my favourites. Also Andy Murray’s first Wimbledon - a bit like Lendl it seemed that he would never do it and then he did (although Lendl never won Wimbledon Sad)

PrivateSpidey · 13/03/2020 09:49

Have fun Fizzy. It'll be lovely I bet.

I forgot you were a not so secret Lendl fan! Who did he beat in that US Open final - was it Mac??

Eat lots of those lovely custard tarts for me, please Fizzy.

(And drink lots of lovely wine, but that goes without saying!).

Fizzywinegum · 13/03/2020 10:01

Of course Magi Grin

I was trying to remember who Lendl beat in the us open final Private - I may need to google it. I remember staying up late and watching it (must have been on bbc then)

PrivateSpidey · 13/03/2020 11:43

It was Mac, I just looked it up. I thought so as that was in my days of reading the World of Tennis yearbook (by John Barrett) over and over again - basically just a book of match stats and black and white photos!

Eee I was easily pleased back then!! Grin

Private Grin

Ahh, it's back to memories of watching the tennis results scroll around on the sports pages of Ceefax.

PrivateSpidey · 13/03/2020 12:30

Raahh Grin that topic always rolls around eventually.

A bit like Ceefax itself Wink

They should bring back Ceefax. I can't imagine what my tech savvy dc would.

I mean- they wouldn't get the appeal at all. Grin.

Raahh · 13/03/2020 12:38

*think of it

PrivateSpidey · 13/03/2020 12:55

Grin I know. I'm sure my DS would scarper long before it ha d got to the bit he wanted! It would be a bit of a novelty though.

I see football has now been postponed as well Sad

Andy Murray portrait goes on show @ National Portrait Gallery (one of my all time fave places).

PrivateSpidey · 13/03/2020 13:09

It's great isn't it magi - the gallery and the painting.

Nice cafe there as well iirc...

I love the gallery. I remember the first time I ever went - some 40+ years ago & being amazed to see portraits of all sorts of famous people, from Charles Kingsley to Louis Pasteur. It was well before internet days & so many of these people I'd never seen an image of. Some looked just as I had imagined them, others a total shock! A wonderful place to while away a few hours.

Raahh · 13/03/2020 13:23

Oh, I love Maggi! She used to be on an art programme with George Melly - was that called Gallery? A real character.

Raahh · 13/03/2020 13:26

Dh texted me to tell me about the football Grin(I had already had an alert from the news on my phone)- bless him, now he knows how I feel.

JaneJeffer · 13/03/2020 14:07

That portrait is reminiscent of the Shirley Hughes books which I love.

Raahh · 13/03/2020 20:55

I am watching the Sport relief, crazy golf Andy Murray thing.

So far, quite funny.Grin

I like Ramesh more than Andy. Shoot me

PrivateSpidey · 13/03/2020 22:06

Grin I forgot that was on!!

Jane I can see what you mean. I love Shirley Hughes. My favourite was An Evening at Alfie's Smile

Well that makes up for the news that Wimbledon may be affected by the ban on big gatherings. I mean- it's not til the very end of June
