Grin missed the posts about gameshow rescheduling Shock

Was Susan Barker announcing it?!

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/03/2020 19:25

Sue, Voice of Doom, should do all the continuity announcing. Definitely.

Grin
Raahh · 12/03/2020 19:28

That Sascha kit does look like he hadn't quite kept on top of the laundryGrin

Fizzywinegum · 12/03/2020 19:48

Sascha’s kit looks very retro (ie it looks as if it was worn by someone 30 years ago and hasn’t been washed since!)

Grigor’s spotty babygro has got to win the worst kit of all time - I’d forgotten about some of Serena’s horrors - the tutu and the superhero cape have got to be up there.

I agree about most of the Nike kits - poor Kyle Edmund usually came off worse with those because of his unfortunate colouring.

Has Eggheads been cancelled yet? If it has we know we’re definitely all doomed Grin

Raahh · 12/03/2020 19:59

Fizzy Eggheads will NEVER be cancelled. In fact, in our darkest hour, they will probably screen it on massive screens in public (like Big Brother/1984).

I now have the Eurythmics song 'Sex Crime/1984' in my head.

See? No tennis, and this thread has taken a very odd turn. Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 12/03/2020 20:00

Indeed Raah Grin - we need some tennis!

JaneJeffer · 12/03/2020 21:09

Eggheads is the cockroach of quiz shows. House of Games had a tennis question followed by a butterfly question!

Oh Lord private
That photo of Sascha Shock
The top looks like one of Borg's old Fila shirts from 40 years ago but the shorts are definitely too long for the 1970's. And the less said about the long socks, the better! Hmm Grin

kazzaD66 · 12/03/2020 22:04

Just catching up with the thread further back.
Leif Garrett - that's a blast from the past!

And don't even get me started on dodgy tennis outfits! Far too many to mention especially amongst the usual suspects Hmm

kazzaD66 · 12/03/2020 22:21

With the exception of Serena and some of Venus' outfits, I think on the whole, the women are better dressed than the men.

It makes me quite nostalgic for those Teddy Tinling dresses Grin

magimedi · 12/03/2020 22:22

Best tennis match ever was 2013 & Andy beating Djock in straight sets to win Wimbledon. I was watching from behind the sofa at the end......

kazzaD66 · 12/03/2020 22:27

Yes magi that final game was almost unbearable.
Thankfully, the result made it bearable!

PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 23:02

It really was... I ended up listening to most of that 2013 final on Radio 5 thus avoiding AC

When Djok was getting those break points in the final game, Jonathan Overend, great commentator, was describing him like a Bond villain: He's smiling! He's nodding his head! Put him in a cape! Grin Absolutely brilliant.

I think my best match ever though was Rafa v Djok Wimbledon 2018. It's hard to pick that one, because the wrong person won Hmm but I think that's the best tennis I've ever seen.

As a Delpo fangirl, I'd also say Delpo v Ferrer, Wimbledon 4th round 2013. Delpo got injured during the match and just started hitting all these crazy shots in the hope of ending points quickly, but "terrier" Ferrer was getting to everything. Fantastic match.

And then what about Jo Durie and Jeremy Bates, winning the mixed in ??87 was it?

Oh and (I'm on a roll) for sheer brilliance, what about Halep v Serena last year?

(Other tennis tournaments are also available Grin)

Jane those IG posts - idk whether to laugh or cry!! Sad Grin

JaneJeffer · 12/03/2020 23:30

I feel that way about everything at the moment. I wish I had fast forward button!

JaneJeffer · 12/03/2020 23:33

Other tennis tournaments are also available ah but Wimbledon is the best! 2008 final for me, can't be beaten.

PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 23:50

Oh yeah that one wasn't bad!! although I missed some of it for Midsomer Murders

I also didn't mention the 2001 men's final, although it wasn't the best tennis ever it was one of the most dramatic and had my favourite ever winner.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 12/03/2020 23:59

Yes that was great too and Pat Rafter is on my 'wish they could have won one' list but I was so happy for Goran. I still can't figure out why I wasn't at work that day!

PrivateSpidey · 13/03/2020 00:04

Yes, I love Pat. He was in the final the year before as well wasn't he? I wish he'd won it as well.

But he did already have 2 Slams so I guess he can't complain too much.

Andy Roddick should have won Wimbledon as well. Preferably in 2009...

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 13/03/2020 00:14

Yup!

Raahh · 13/03/2020 07:02

Love the favourite match chat- I think we talked about 2013 (Wimbledon) the other week- Djok featured in some of my favourite matches that year (not the final, wasn't bothered who won that, sorry Grin). His match against Delpo in the semi was great too.

He was also in the epic semi final in the French Open that year- one of the very rare 5 set matches that Rafa has played there- very nerve shredding that one was.

The 1989 French Open final (Edberg/ Chang) is one of my most memorable matches for all the wrong reasons. I cried when it ended Blush.

And yy to Roddick winning Wimbledon in 2009 Wink.

He does, you know, in my alternative tennis universe.

kazzaD66 · 13/03/2020 08:27

Yes Raahh I was rather upset at the outcome of that French Open final aswell. I've never forgiven Chang for it. Especially after he served underarm at one point. I don't care if he was completely knackered and had severe cramp. If he was that bad, he should have retired Hmm
The lovely Stefan would have had a career Grand Slam Grin

kazzaD66 · 13/03/2020 08:34

Andy's two Olympic gold medal winning matches were great. The first, because he beat Fed on Centre Court just a month after losing the Wimbledon final to him and all the emotions wrapped up with that. The second, because it was just such a fight. Both players were shattered by the end but still kept coming up with amazing shots. I think the tension was ramped up even more from my perspective because we were watching it until 2 or 3 in the morning! I know I'm in the minority on here because I wanted Andy to win but they both gave their all and, again, it was just so emotional at the end.

kazzaD66 · 13/03/2020 08:38

The Davis Cup final when we beat Belgium was also pretty special. In fact, the whole campaign that year. Not necessarily for lots of great tennis, just for the whole team really. Although that final Cup winning lob by Andy was brilliant Grin
