Jane he hasn't aged wellGrin

(I actually thought he had died years ago!)

Raahh · 11/03/2020 18:04

Bake Off was funny, all the contestants were really good. Jenny Eclair's eclairs Grin. (and I knew what you meant Fizzy)

I will miss Sandi on the main show.

JaneJeffer · 11/03/2020 18:09

I didn't get to see GBBO. DH was watching Salvage Hunters which he loves for some inexplicable reason Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 11/03/2020 18:51

I did see GBBO - the clips were v emotional (that’s what made me regret calling it good for a laugh!) it is very entertaining though - I love it! I’ll also miss Sandi - she’s going to be replaced by Matt Lucas - not sure what I think about that. I do like Noel though - hope he stays.

Loved your tennis ramblings Jane - hope your cold gets better soon. I’m feeling a bit under the weather but trying to ignore it Hmm I’m going to google Leif - I sort of remember him as pretend tennis player Grin. That podcast sounds interesting.

There is more drama in Stef’s life - apparently his Mum gatecrashed his press conference the other week and it was all a bit awkward Shock. It must be difficult for him being coached by his Dad and having his Mum so involved in his tennis.

Fizzywinegum · 11/03/2020 18:53

Oh I think I got confused - I thought Leif was the tennis player!

PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 09:05

So... Should all the European tennis players who are in the US start making their way home?...
Confused

ATP & WTA are likely to swtop all play until May!!

Read somewhere that Titsipas is using the time to learn to drive!

PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 09:30

Nooooooo! Say it ain't so magi!! Sad

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 09:30

Sorry, Private:

Raahh · 12/03/2020 12:35

I have been at my mum's all morning and have just seen this- gutted about the tennisSad. I'm not really surprised given the number of cases in Europe though.

My mum is due to do to New York with my sister and her family at the end of May (my niece is 21 and my BIL is 50 this year, it was a joint thing), she's already plannng for it to not go ahead.

PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 12:57

Oh Raahh that's gutting isn't it. We're booked to go to NY for Easter Sad We haven't cancelled anything yet and apparently they are letting you rebook flights and not charging you for doing so. So we will wait but I am not hopeful.

Anyway don't want to be doom and gloom on here as I know this is the tennis thread... but there isn't even any tennis which is my usual refuge! Will have to resort to you tube for old matches (only ones where players I like actually win though!!).

Have just heard about the school closures in Ireland Jane Shock

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/03/2020 13:12

Oh no, Spidey that's rubbish- I hope you can re-book (to be fair , my mum was not too bothered about not going).

It seems wrong to be so bothered by tennis when so many crap things are going on in the world, but it is my refuge from the rubbish of rl, and it's the wrong time of year for crap Christmas films (but the hallmark channel still throws up some corkersGrin).

Fizzywinegum · 12/03/2020 13:31

I might be joining you on watching the Christmas films Raahh and I don’t even really like them!

Hope that your travel plans get sorted out Spidey

I know what you mean - tennis is a refuge from the real world and I will miss it - I usually enjoy the clay court season but can’t see how much of it will go ahead now Sad

I think it’s the uncertainty and not knowing what’s going to happen next as much as the actual virus that’s worrying me really- I’m trying not to get anxious about it but it’s difficult to avoid with it on the news and radio all the time.

I’m due to go to Portugal tomorrow for the weekend - I don’t think they’ve had too many cases there but things can change pretty quickly Sad

I like the idea of Stefanos learning to drive - he’ll probably treat it as some sort of philosophical riddle that needs to be solved Smile. I hope he posts about it on his social media

Hope that things are Ok with you Jane and the school closures etc not too disruptive for you

Raahh · 12/03/2020 15:57

On a slight sport theme, I just heard on the news that the Olympic torch has been lit in Greece. That seems a tad premature, given no decision has been made on whether the Games are going ahead as planned.

And surely there won't be a relay?

There was no big audience for the 'lighting' so I'm not sure what happens to the torch now Confused.

PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 16:07

At least they're optimistic I suppose!! It does seem a bit previous though doesn't it?!

We went to see the torch being carried in the lead up to the London Olympics - it was brilliant. That seems like a lifetime ago in so many ways. I mean, it was ages ago to be fair!..

Fizzy Grin love the philosophical puzzle of driving idea! I hope he keeps us up to date with his progress as well. Don't vlog and drive Stef! Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/03/2020 16:27

The London Olympics seems ages ago now, yes. We were lucky enough to have a torch in the house for a bit, as one of dh's softball team was a torch bearer, and he let us borrow it so we could take it into school - the dc thought it was amazing Grin.

And Grin at Stef, vlogging and driving.

I am visualising him driving along in an open top sports car- his golden locks, flowing in the breeze.

Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 12/03/2020 16:40

Yes I’ve sort of got that vision of Stef driving as well Raahh - it’s got to be true then Grin

The London Olympics were nearly eight years ago Shock. The torch even came here to Yorkshire - I remember going to see it!

magimedi · 12/03/2020 17:13

First F1 race of the year (Melbourne) has been cancelled. Was to have been Sunday & I was quite looking forward toit. But it was the right thing to do.

PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 18:19

Pffft. It's not good this, is it.

Domi has posted a nice tweet that also made me feel sad - sorry not to play, but important to keep people healthy - similar to what rafa said after IW was cancelled. Such nice boys, the pair of them!

What shall we talk about?

Best matches of all time? Worst ever kits??? Sigh.

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/03/2020 18:32

Private it is nice, and it's players like Rafa and Dom that stand to lose out the most with there being no play over the next 6 weeks. Meanwhile, Djok stays at number 1 without hitting a ball- surely that can't be allowed ? I know it's unprecedented, but it just doesn't seem fair .

Raahh · 12/03/2020 18:40

I think if we did a poll of worst ever kits, Grigor would currently be up at the top. Followed by most of the players forced to wear the whole skeletons/floral nike range from last year (didn't mind the bees Grin), and of course Serena's tutu. And her Kermit jumpsuit. Most of Serena's recent outfits actually. She's clearly out to prove something since the RG catsuit thing. Not sure what it is though.

JaneJeffer · 12/03/2020 19:00

House of Games moved to 6.30. Shit just got real!

Raahh · 12/03/2020 19:11

Jane when the Beeb starts messing with the game show schedule, you know we are in trouble Grin

I am very worried about the new series of 'Our Girl'.

PrivateSpidey · 12/03/2020 19:14

I just can't believe it, it's taken out so much of the clay season already. It's awful.

Some players are in for big drops in rankings apparently. I was reading that Isner will drop out of the top 30 and Tiafoe out of the top 100! Crazy.

Re the kits, yes some v strong contenders there Raahh Grin

I thought of this Sascha kit straight away, but then when I searched for it, I actually thought it looked quite good?!

(Or not?!)
