magi I get you. All the best to you and your DH. Hope to see you for some tennis chat soon Flowers

I've not been using MN much the last couple of weeks as I find the corona virus stuff is taking over (although I have hidden the topic, it still crops up on other boards) making MN a bit unusable for me tbh.

But I'm checking in here and the 50 books thread. And there's a good thread going in Chat atm about girls' comics. That's about it. But the tennis thread always cheers me up Smile

I also feel like a genius if I get one right on Only Connect magi Grin. Hope that you and your DH stay well (and everyone else too) Flowers

magimedi · 10/03/2020 08:28

Sorry to have been so gloomy last night. Feel much better this morning.

I think we are going to have to hunt around for wild tennis gossip to keep us going!

Raahh · 10/03/2020 08:37

Morning everyone.

Hope everyone is ok today.

I got the music question right on Only Connect last night, and was very proud of myself Grin. (I recognised the theme tune to Eldorado Blush- so not exactly high brow!)

That was about it, though.

A couple of years ago, the vicar and some of the congragation from the church up the road were on it. They didn't do all that well, but it was funny to see them on it.

Raahh · 10/03/2020 08:41

On a more (tenuously) tennis related note, the first towel I got out of the cupboard this morning, was my Wimbledon 1990 one. (I didn't go that year, it was given to me by a friend whose, dad worked there, they had a bit of a collection). It in good condition after 30 years, just a tiny hole.

Grin
PrivateSpidey · 10/03/2020 09:27

Morning everyone, hope you are all ok. Glad you're feeling a bit better about things today magi.

Raahh good work with the Eldorado theme tune Grin I never get anything right!

1990 eh - a good year for fans of the lovely Stefan Wink

The Wimbledon towels are good quality all right. I wanted one for years, every time I went I would go and feel a Wimbledon towel in the shop Grin but could never justify the cost, then a couple of years ago (the classic semi final year) I just thought fuck it, and got one. They're so lovely and soft. I usually hide mine at the back of the airing cupboard so no other bugger uses it Grin

Jo Konta is on the Great British Bake Off (celebrity version - I guess for sport relief) - it starts tonight but I'm not sure which episode she's in.

It's not tennis is it, but I suppose it's something...

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 10/03/2020 17:08

It's for Stand Up to Cancer but I don't think she's on tonight. She bakes a lot and is meant to be quite good, so add in the sportswoman competitiveness, and she'll probably be going for it!

James Blunt is also doing it at some point. I do like him because he's very self deprecating and has a brilliant, dry sense of humour, so I'm looking forward to that.

CakeCake

PrivateSpidey · 10/03/2020 17:26

Ah is that what it is - just assumed it was sport related!

James Blunt is funny. Louis Theroux is also one of the contestants - did not recognise some of the others!

OP posts:
Raahh · 10/03/2020 18:02

I've just seen a clip of Andy Murray playing crazy golf with Romesh Ranganathan for the Sport Relief programme on Friday.

We might end up spoilt for tennis related things this week, after all Grin.

kazzaD66 · 10/03/2020 18:31

Sue Barker was on Radio 2 earlier to promote the A Question of Sport live tour.

The conversation did dwell a fair bit on tennis.

Just another tenuous Tennis tale....... Grin

Raahh · 10/03/2020 18:33

See, kazza spoilt, we are!

Tennis Grin
PrivateSpidey · 10/03/2020 18:59

Love it Grin Keep them coming, everyone!! Tennis

Sadly I can't think of anything that would be classed as wild tennis gossip though - sorry magi

Fizzywinegum · 10/03/2020 19:33

Hopefully celebrity bake off will cheer us all up - it’s usually good for a laugh Grin. I’d read that Jo Konta was going to be on - I think she will be very competitive! Didn’t she bake muffins in between her matches at Wimbledon one year?

kazzaD66 · 10/03/2020 19:39

I've also just seen the Sport Relief ad with Andy. I'm not a huge fan of Romesh R, although he is from my home town (not that I've lived there for nigh on 25 years) and was a pupil and teacher at my brother's old school.

And more tenuous Tennis news......DH has just gone to pick DS up from tennis coaching

(Ok, I'll stop now.....)
Grin

kazzaD66 · 10/03/2020 19:47

Yes fizzy I think she did. I'm probably making this up, but I have a vague recollection of Jo saying she was going to make a cake for Rafa or Roger......or someone Confused

Clearlywouldn't be for Djok.
The very thought of cake would bring him out in hives Grin

PrivateSpidey · 10/03/2020 19:49

Yes celeb bake off is usually a good laugh isn't it? I remember Jo making muffins at Wimbledon and giving them to all the journalists iirc?! I reckon she'll be pretty good.

DH is out tonight as well, so I'm planning to watch bake off and then I've got a cheesy Hallmark film recorded as well - can't wait! (I hate watching anything like that with DH or DS as all they do is complain how predictable it is!! Hmm)

Glad to hear kazza's taxis is having a night off!!

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 10/03/2020 20:06

Yes private the upside of DH still not having a job is that Kazza's Taxis doesn't have as many fares Grin

Actually, another upside is that DH doesn't have to commute by rail to London every day, which given the current situation, is far less worrying than it otherwise would have been Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 11/03/2020 15:01

When I said that the Bake Off is usually good for a laugh I had sort of forgotten that the celebrity one was for cancer so hope I didn’t offend anyone Blush

Just catching up on some of the Tennis podcasts (clutching at straws!) and apparently Tsitsipas’s social media has been quite entertaining recently - he was talking about hair conditioner the other day (he’s still hoping for that Timotei advert!)

At least with no tennis Djok isn’t winning everything as he said he would but hopefully we will get some soon (fingers crossed)

Hope everyone is ok and keeping well. I felt guilty about buying toilet roll today but we did genuinely need some (and I didn’t buy 10 packs!)

I definitely need some tennis - I’m boring myself now Grin

JaneJeffer · 11/03/2020 17:28

Hope you're all well. My cold is lingering on not helped by the shitty weather. DS2 is even worse!

I've been taking some Irish wildflower honey magi but I might have to get the Jameson out! Hope your DH is keeping well.

I'm sure no one is offended Fizzy

There are rumours that the schools here will close from next week until Easter!

Anyway my tennis ramblings are as follows (bear with me):

I was watching a 70's music programme and Leif Garrett was on it (OG Shaggy lookalike) and I remembered I used to watch him in Three for the Road so I googled it. His co-star was Vincent VanPatten, who was my main reason for watching at the time! Anyway I hadn't realised (or forgotten maybe) that as well as acting he was a professional tennis player! So I've been listening to this podcast which is really good.

And now it's snowing. Aargh!

Raahh · 11/03/2020 17:39

I love that picture of Hacker , Jane . I hope you feel better soon- I am sick of the weather. At least we havent got snow.

Never mind CV, I am worried we are going to drown. I took the dog to the park- there is a big moat/pond thing there ,with a 'deep water' sign, that usually has a 3 ft pole visible. Ironically , now, the sign is half under water.

Leif Garrett is a blast from the past-I had a friend who fancied him. She had a poster on her wall Grin.

Fizzy I love the idea of Stef discussing hair products. It feels like it belongs in our parallel tennis universe Grin.

PrivateSpidey · 11/03/2020 17:50

Lovely to see you Jane - sorry to hear about the cold dragging on. Hope you and your DS are better soon. I will check out that podcast!

I saw that picture of Hacker yesterday Grin - I love how he always calls Sue "Susan Barker" Grin Sue is so good-natured, she looks like she is genuinely enjoying that photo op!

Ah Fizzy I said the same, I know what you mean. Did you watch it last night? It was really good, and v emotional with the clips. I'm definitely going to donate. Louis Theroux was lovely in last night's episode - well, they all were.

Stef's vlog definitely sounds like it belongs in the alternative tennis universe - although we all know that should be the real universe!!

Your friend will cry if she sees what Leif looks like now Grin
