Grin multipack not multitude!! That makes it sound like I'd open the cupboard and an avalanche of Werther's would fall out Grin

Raahh · 06/03/2020 14:39

Buried under an avalanche of Werthers would be a hell of a way to go Grin.

PrivateSpidey · 06/03/2020 14:51

Grin it would.

Davis Cup and Fed Cup are making the players sort out their own towels
Advantage Zverev.

Are Werthers known for their curative properties? I've got the lurgy and it's taking ages to go. I'll try anything at this stage!

magimedi · 06/03/2020 15:28

Werthers are known as 'old fart' sweets in our gouse - after the ad with grandpa giving them to GC Grin.

PrivateSpidey · 06/03/2020 16:47

Grin magi I remember that ad: "Now I'm the Grandpa" Grin

I got them thinking of my mum's trick of buying sweets that we didn't like that much for car journeys etc, so we wouldn't stuff them all at once Grin (Opal Fruits usually) - thought I could ration the Werther's out similarly Grin

Jane not sure about their healing properties tbh - worth a try though?! Hope you feel better soon Brew

Fizzywinegum · 06/03/2020 16:57

Spidey you don’t like Opal Fruits?? Shock Grin. I was trying to remember what they’re called now but then it came to me - starburst! Maybe I need some Werthers originals!

Fizzywinegum · 06/03/2020 17:00

Hopefully the Coronavirus will stop Kyrgios from carrying his towel in his mouth - yuk - I will post about tennis at some point (hopefully!)

Is Rafa playing at Indian wells? The website sounds too confusing for me!

magimedi · 06/03/2020 17:04

Daft, those Werthers. Best shape for choking on & you give them to the very young & very old!!

Mym mum had small tins of boiled sweets in the glove box for long jpourneys - they weren't very nice! They were called Travel sweets & google reveals there are loads of them still made!

I haven't got a sweet tooth at all (now crisps, nibbles......) but on a long drive I do enjoy a boiled sweet now & again - not sure why.

magimedi · 06/03/2020 17:06

Jane Flowers. Hot water with honey, lemon & some grated fresh ginger in it does wonders. Drop of whisky added to it is a good nightcap.

Fizzy I hope you are right. I hate that towel/mouth act.

Raahh · 06/03/2020 17:10

Ugh- yes, Kyrgios and his towel- he looks like a dog. Except dogs look cute.

Rafa is supposed to be playing at IW - I've not heard any different. Really will be Djok's to lose if both Fed and Rafa are out of action (not that Rafa has necessarily been a major force there over the last few years- though he did ok there last yer before having to withdraw).

PrivateSpidey · 06/03/2020 17:24

give them to the very young & very old!!
Worried about which category I'm in Grin

Fizzy no I don't like Opal Fruits/Starbursts, they're all horrible and sour except the red ones!

magi your cold cure sounds nice, especially the whiskey version.

I also think Rafa is playing IW - isn't he doing a charity thing this weekend before the main draw (if that ever happens)?

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 06/03/2020 17:24

Rafa must be playing singles at IW, as apparently he's playing doubles there.
Although, this is according to the IW website, which we have officially established is crap Grin

PrivateSpidey · 06/03/2020 17:25

Grin it's probably all last year's news kazza

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 06/03/2020 17:25

I predict Djok will lose in the second round Wink

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 06/03/2020 17:28

I was never a fan of Opal Fruits. They always made my teeth go funny, sort of squeaky Confused

Altogether now......."Opal Fruits, made to make your mouth water!"

I think not! Hmm

Raahh · 06/03/2020 17:34

Aren't they meant to changing their name back this year, to Opal Fruits?

I might have made that up. I have boring dreams that I swear are true. But like our parallel tennis universe . Starburst changing it's name might be something I dreamt about. Grin.

Raahh · 06/03/2020 17:35

*Bit

PrivateSpidey · 06/03/2020 18:04

Raahh if you put the thought out into the universe on this thread, it happens sometimes Grin

kazza yes that's it re Opal Fruits - ugh!

I saw a Marathon wrapper in a hedge the other day Shock how long must that have been there?!!

Anyway Grin When are they doing this IW draw?!

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 06/03/2020 18:06

PS Raahh that would be such a random dream to have Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/03/2020 18:11

I have googled- and I did not dream it!

From the end of February, for a limited time, certain shops are stocking Starburst as Opal Fruits! Can't say I have spotted any, but next time I am in the pound shop, I will have lookGrin.

(I do still have random dreams though).

PrivateSpidey · 07/03/2020 09:44

Grin I wonder what took them so long to change the name back? Or is it just a gimmick I wonder?

I'm still confused about Indian Wells. It says it starts on 9 March, but the ATP website says the draw is "next Tuesday" Hmm and play starts next Thursday. Why don't they give the actual dates so we know what's what?! Argh!!

OP posts:
Raahh · 07/03/2020 10:53

IW is an odd one -they call it 'the 5rd slam' it seems to last longer than normal masters, it also has a bigger field of players too than most.
The schedule is confusing, as is the website!

Raahh · 07/03/2020 10:55

So , it actually starts on Thursday- with the final being on the 22nd. According to the ATP site. Very confusing.

Raahh · 09/03/2020 07:20

Looks like IW is postponed? Can't see how it can be re-scheduled, to be honest, as there can't be any time in the calendar to put it back.

I know it isn't the main thing, but I do wonder how postponing tournaments affects rankings and points- in a way it would be better to just leave the points as is, but then Federer (who is out injured until June) benefits when he has already said he isn't going to be playing anyway. So that isn't fair. Maybe it should be a case of points stay the same if the player was already scheduled to play the tournament? That would make sense.

If they are cancelling IW, it will only be a matter of time really before they announce they will cancel Miami?

Anyway enough of my waffle- need to get people ready for schoolGrin.
