It's on early February, I'm not sure if that's USA or the UK as well, but I think we usually get it shortly after.
Can't wait for Carries crying face to be back on my screen 😣😟

I think that was much the best ending. Saul's belief in saving not just one asset but the only asset of value and it taking a decade to build up that level of intelligence again. Esp with Russian involvement in US politics more than ever. Nod to Alison Carr having burnt the others.

Carrie with her ingrained save the world, one death vs thousands POV. Aside from going rogue to save Max & the flight recorder, she burnt the USA's only high-level asset so she was never going to work in the US again. Being an undercover (I assume secret asset as no one in the CIA would trust her) agent in Moscow was really the only ending for her. And she was carrying on Anna's role having caused her death.

I wonder how much of her book was to provide cover for the Russians to trust her. One of the clippings on her wall was of the drone deaths which she was responsible for and she was moved by that graveyard she saw. That and Abu Graib were well known. Didn't catch what else was on the wall, so she must also have revealed lots of other stuff not known to the public to gain the Russian's trust imo.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 04/05/2020 10:51

Whose wall was it at the end - carrie or yevgeny?

Carries wall

If it was carrie’s how was she keeping it secret from yevgeny?

She didn’t need to. It was all “legitimate” stuff for her book which he’ll have known about.

And how was she able to post the book? So many unanswered questions.

I’m sure he doesn’t watch her all the time.

Frannie didn’t get much of a look in in carrie’s decision making process, it seems.

Carrie knows Frannie is a million times safer away from her.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 04/05/2020 10:53

Agree it was nice that having destroyed the Russian spy network Carrie then took on the job of rebuilding it herself.

YinMnBlue · 04/05/2020 12:06

"stay tuned"

The thing that bothers me is that throughout the series Carrie has in effect prostituted herself in the job. Slept with people for favours, to escape, as a cover to make information-rich relationships. She slept with the guard to try and get her meds back when the Russians took her prisoner.

And that in the end we don't know if she is living with Yevgeny as her cover to be an agent and to secure her safety, or because she really cares for him,

He kissed her after he had injected her and nicked the flight recorder, he bought her a necklace...so we suppose that he cares for her...but does she care for him?

fromlittleacorns · 04/05/2020 13:05

Good point about franny being safer without her, chandler!

I suppose once carrie had drugged saul and betrayed anna, the choice for frannie was ‘my mother Betrayed Her country, escaped To russia and wrote a book‘ versus ‘mother betrayed country and is in a usa prison for the rest of her life.’ Neither is a particularly good option for a child! Suspect she might end up changing her surname.

stumbledin · 04/05/2020 13:08

Help with mumbling please - I have rewound so many times but still couldn't hear!

Carrie sitting outside Saul's sister's house having just seen tv statement about it was just an accident.

Big Russian (sorry that's how I still think of him) comes out and says: ????????? And whatever he says means they then become allies again and have to to to Ramallah.

And earlier poster said something about Israeli intelligence. But why would they be a threat to the duelling duo?!

Also at the end was the woman in the ladies someone who was passing info to Carrie?

I think both Big Russian and Carrie dont trust each other if it came to where their true loyalties were. This may have some affection but is also a convenience.

And hate to say it, I expect Homeland 2 re branded as Undercover in Russia is in the pipeline!

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 04/05/2020 13:31

And earlier poster said something about Israeli intelligence. But why would they be a threat to the duelling duo?!

Yes it was all a bit vague.

Beardy Russian came out of the house and told carrie that Anna had killed herself. Then Carrie said “that means Israeli intelligence will know too” and they both scarpered.

I didn’t understand it at all.

I don’t know how Anna killing herself would be information the Israeli intelligence would instantly know. Unless the Russians are passing all their info instantly to the israeli’s?

And secondly, I don’t know why the israeli’s knowing that Anna killed herself would mean they also knew carrie and beardy were at dorit’s house.

It didn’t make sense.

stumbledin · 04/05/2020 13:53

Thanks - at least I dont feel so bad being confused. I suppose they just needed something to get them to go off together so we could then get "2 Years Later"!

Bobbybobbins · 04/05/2020 14:09

I had to turn on subtitles at that point! My impression was that Saul would send Israeli intelligence after them?

YinMnBlue · 04/05/2020 14:42

aargh - why didn't I think of putting the subtitles n at the beginning of the series!!!?

I still can't quite work out why Carrie was responsible for the blowing of the safe house and the Ops team being captured? Because it was something that Jenna mumbled or said sotto voce.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 04/05/2020 15:16

Carrie asked Jenna for the safe house location. I can’t remember exact excuse she gave but I think she promised Jenna she would be handing herself in so that’s why she needed the location? Not sure. Anyway, Jenna told her the location, Carrie handed the info straight to yevgeny who obviously passed it on to Pakistan so they would arrest them. The team was there illegally. So it was carries plan that the team would be uncovered and detained. To allow her and yevgeny to do whatever it was they were planning on that episode.

Cocolapew · 04/05/2020 15:37

I presumed it was Israeli intelligence that would pick them up just because they were in Israel at the time. But how did Saul know that's where she was to tell the Israeli's?

OP posts:
SaulBerenson · 04/05/2020 15:43

He knew the only way she could have found Anna’s identity was through his sister so it was the only place she could be? I think.

Cocolapew · 04/05/2020 15:49

Oh yes of course, that's right 🤦

I’m just watching Stephen So dheims 90th birthday presentation lots of Broadway stars sing in lockdown and look who just popped up? He is quarantining somewhere very lovely or, is he on the run?😃 what a beautiful voice he has. He must be a saint. It’s on new tube if you can sit through all the show hands it’s a lovely tribute.

Homeland fans, next month, it's back 😯!
Fiderer · 04/05/2020 18:05

I hadn't clicked that Saul knew if Carrie didn't get the asset's name from him, she'd guess at his sister and she made the comment about the fallback and going to the airfield.

He used his contacts in Israeli counterintelligence to try and get to the sister first.

I think I'll re-watch Tinker Tailor with Alec Guinness now Homeland's over. That tradecraft with the books was v Le Carré.

I still would have to have seen more of the political fallout, US and internationally in the 2 years.

TheSpottedZebra · 04/05/2020 18:09

He kissed her after he had injected her and nicked the flight recorder, he bought her a necklace...so we suppose that he cares for her...but does she care for him?

But that IS caring for someone, Carrie-style. She cared for StSaul and was very prepared to kill him. She cared for Max, ish, but realised she used him and didn't value him until shed helped bring about his death... I liked that her flaws didn't magically heal themselves though therapy and 'self-work'. She just carried on, fucked up as ever.

Lweji · 04/05/2020 20:28

Love is love and business is business.

She could have stayed in Russia without Yevgeni, but she's with him. And she's not spying his stuff, she's using someone else.
So, I think she at least likes him. He used her with no shame either.

BehindTheGreenDoor · 04/05/2020 22:38

A short sort of goodbye video from some of the cast.

Ellmau · 04/05/2020 23:08

I seem to be alone here, but WTAF was that as a finale. I hated it.

I would have been ok if the twist had been an actual plan between Saul and Carrie.

BitOfFun · 05/05/2020 01:40

I loved it. And I loved that Saul was good- I always knew it.

Nospringchickendipper · 05/05/2020 08:47

I enjoyed the ending. I think it fitting for Carrie to redeem herself having lost America's best asset in Russia.
Loved the way she looked happy and didn't have that worried look she always had.
So sad it's finished.

They nailed it GrinGrin

Campervan69 · 05/05/2020 20:56

Thought it was the perfect ending.
