It's on early February, I'm not sure if that's USA or the UK as well, but I think we usually get it shortly after.
Can't wait for Carries crying face to be back on my screen 😣😟

Coco - you will go to heaven for finally realising Saul's innate goodness, but then probably hell for wanting Carrie to die. Although I'll be joining you there as I sort of did a bit as well.

TheSpottedZebra · 03/05/2020 22:35

Ooh, I loved the jazz. It was showing how when the music was calm, she was on edge. But when the chords were clashing and it was all messy -she felt herself.

But yes, the ending was trite. Yay, she has a man! And shoesies! Squee. It's such a cliche.

But I liked that she did not kill Saint Saul of Our Hearts, and of Coco's Conscience , and that she tried to repair the relationship. Though only after he'd retired and had a heart attack.

TheSpottedZebra · 03/05/2020 22:37

So what will fill the homeland shaped hole in our hearts now?

I'm watching Spooks from the beginning. Cant say its held up too well but I have plenty of time to watch it!

Cocolapew · 03/05/2020 22:38

He's still evil in my mind 😌

TBF Saul has put Carrie through the wringer a few times himself. He got her to have herself committed, dragged her back into the game whilst in recovery from serious psychotic breakdown. He survived the heart attack so he’s open for business Grin

Fiderer · 03/05/2020 22:41

We have had St Saul for 8 series and we end as we started with Coco the Contrary Grin

Sittinonthefloor · 03/05/2020 22:42

I thought that was great. Was v worried it was going to end up with Saul deading Carrie or c deading s, that would have been sad. It does seem a bit unlikely that yvgeney would trust her but she had proved her self in a pretty big way! Poor franny though. I liked that this series was old school spying, ‘tradecraft’. And thinking of brody & the jazz was great. I forgotten the name of the other spy she loved, the one that got a dose of sarin, it was a shame she didn’t remember him at all, and totally over max.

YinMnBlue · 03/05/2020 22:43

I love Kamasi Washington!

So, she became Saul’s asset in Moss-cow.

Why didn’t they suspect Carrie of being involved in Saul’s tipping off of Anna?

Cocolapew · 03/05/2020 22:44

He was a bit shit towards her, he used her all the time. Then as soon as he thinks she's working as a double agent poor Anna's sacrifice, who Carrie gave to the bloody Russians, is poof! away.

TheSpottedZebra · 03/05/2020 22:44

But hang on, if she'd written an exposé on the CIA, much of it would be slagging off St Saul, wouldn't it? So she's not only betrayed her country, almost killed him, had his top assets killed, but she'd then gone on to write about him, destroying his name and legacy... then sent him a copy.

Cocolapew · 03/05/2020 22:47

I don't know what you're on about Fid 😇

OP posts:
Cocolapew · 03/05/2020 22:47

To be honest they should have let us write the ending.

Quinn Sad poor weasel boy

BehindTheGreenDoor · 03/05/2020 22:48

Realistically how many years did Anna have left before she retired? Unless she was going to pass on the baton to a younger colleague?

Though I did love Saul telling Carrie to go fuck herself Grin

HalleLouja · 03/05/2020 22:49

I was pmsl at Carrie powdering her nose and wearing a slinky dress. Can see why she ran off with the dishy Russian though.

See St Saul of Snacks was a good one. Am glad she didn’t kill him off.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 03/05/2020 22:50

Why didn’t they suspect Carrie of being involved in Saul’s tipping off of Anna?

Because carrie wasn’t involved. Saul was always going to protect his asset as soon as he knew she was compromised. The Russians would know that.

Headbangersandmash · 03/05/2020 22:50

So what will fill the homeland shaped hole in our hearts now?

Killing Eve is the only other spy programme that I'm watching atm

BehindTheGreenDoor · 03/05/2020 22:50

Also I didn’t like the Lacrimosa bit, it made Homeland feel like Inspector Morse! Not the vibe they want.

Bobbybobbins · 03/05/2020 22:52

Also rewatching Spooks!

InABigCountry · 03/05/2020 22:52

Well feel very tense after all that! I'm actually surprised Carrie and Saul are actually still alive at the end, I thought one or both of them would be dead. So is Carrie trying to redeem herself to Saul?
Talking about Russian spies, I read Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy last year, couldn't really work out what was going on!! Grin

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 03/05/2020 22:52

Me too and I knew that’s what he would say. I burst out laughing a big “pahahaha” and DS side eyed me and said “it wasn’t that funny”. he literally joined me for the last 30 minutes ever of homeland and kept saying “I don’t get why you like it. It’s boring” Hmm he’s lucky I didn’t hand him over to the Russians.

Cocolapew · 03/05/2020 22:53

I've taken to watching films about the US Seals/Delta force in the Middle East. There's always lots of beardy, muscley blokes in it.
It's like the jogging beards all over again.

I will really miss Homeland, thank you to all for your company. Thanks also to the person who posted the link about Mandy Patinkin, he does seem a man of high morals.

Firstaidnovice · 03/05/2020 23:00

So, just leaping right into the thread at the end with questions...

Why did Carrie not just go straight to Israel to Dorit, and not bother with the whole poisoning Saul scenario, which surely Carrie knew wouldn't work?? My answer to this is that it just wouldn't be that dramatic, which is fair enough, I guess.

But then the bit that is really bugging me, is why did Charlotte (?) release Saul from the GRU goons before the name of the Kremlin mole had actually been given to Mirov? Surely it was just a matter of seconds that stopped Mike successfully squirreling Anna out of the UN building? Or actually, now I think of it, why did Mike (is he called Mike? Scott Ryan? Jack Ryan? Whatever) not just stop in the middle of the corridor with Anna rather than run off to the basement? Surely even Russia wouldn't shoot someone dead in plain sight in the UN building?

Am I just overthinking this?

Overall I loved the season, loved the lack of Carrie going off her meds/Carrie's family/Carrie's love life interfering with the plot, which was just exciting geopolitics. Have just had a long conversation with DH about what would actually have been a more satisfying ending, and it's a tough one... Wasn't a particular fan of this ending, but it could have been worse I guess? He said he was hoping for Carrie dying under ambiguous circumstances, so she looked like a traitor, but Saul knew she was a patriot, with echoes of Brody. I sort of subscribe to the idea there's no way of ending a series and really keeping fans happy. It's often the penultimate episode of any series that is the best

BehindTheGreenDoor · 03/05/2020 23:01

I’ve been watching The Spy on Netflix but it’s old school spying in the 1960s and a bit dull. But they do employ a team to whip Sacha baron Cohen (who plays the spy) into shape and I thought of you lot and the beardy doctors!
