If the story that jalal killed the 2X pres is believed then US will go to war with Pakistan. Does that benefit gulom? Perhaps he hopes that Pakistan will hand over Jalal and the taliban will fall apart?

Is anyone else unimpressed by Jalal? He’s so baby-faced and unthreatening. Haqqani Sr had so much more appeal presence.

I can't sleep and have been thinking about how it's going to end.
Saul is going to be a Russian double agent and Carrie will be shot in the head, on his orders.

I think:

it'll be rather that she's returned to US, but put in secure psych ward for life (possibly on Saul's intervention)

So you get the parallel of Brody being turned but no one believing he was; and Carrie not being turned, but nobody believing she wasn't . But the viewer will know (because Gromov will tell her as a last little twist from him)

Saul, who was meant to look after Max in Afghanistan, but as Carrie said, utterly failed so to do, also failed to keep Carrie safe.

So the final scene is a flash forward, with Saul visiting her in secure ward (with snacks) to apologise, tell her believes her, and smuggle her a suitable item (can't be glasses, she doesn't need them). Carrie dreams/hallucinates Brody as she ends her life.

Most definitely. I think he has been working her since the gulag. Extracting all the info he could, finding out how she operates, prepping her, gaining her trust then arranged her release when it suited the Russian agenda, He has spies so knew she’d been put back in the game so made sure she saw him at guloms office. He left the note about Sarina? So Carrie had a reason to make contact. It’s why he has happily been her dogsbody driving her everywhere. He’s been letting her lead him exactly where he needs to go under the guise of helping her.
