Based on what everyone on here has written who are much more observant than me, given the timeline (unless a totally unknown character was hiding in a cupboard) I do see who else it can be.
But cant remember how long after the scene of Jess getting ready to go to bed she then saw the fire. Was she asleep and woke up or was it almost immediate.
Anyway just because he is so loathsome I think it will be DT but he will say its not his fault but his mother's because she didn't protect him from an abusive dad which has made him mentally unstable. He will claim he just couldn't cope with having to medicate his wife and look after the kids. Everyone will be sorry and his mum will have to leave the neighbourhood!
re sound - I dont doubt there is pressure on people to upgrade equipement, and in fact I use speakers, more to have the sound near me than it booming across a room (cheap flat conversion with no sound proofing for other tenants).
I was told that the issue is when they try to save costs on actually sound engineers and use directional mikes rather than mikes on booms directly over the characters head. This is why voices sound as though they are behind something as the mike is trying to pick up sound over a distance.
After there were complaints in the papers from quite a few people about the level of sound in the Joker and how explosions and music totally deafen people, someone being interviewed explained that this was because they had to boost the sound for the spoken word but then the loud noises are out of proportion. Just like in a series like this when you turn the sound up to hear what people are saying and the ads come on and are just too loud!
I mainly notice it on US films and very occassionally UK tv series. So I think it is the production companies. Or that the recording system used is compatible with cinema sound systems but not domestic tvs. The Handmaid's Tale was an example. I usuallly have my sound on 12 - 14. Even on 30+ I couldn't hear a lot of the dialogue in THMT.
