How many more episodes are left?

beckywiththeshithair27 · 24/01/2020 22:07

His mum looks scared because he's an abusive wanker which she knew already. She didn't visit him or get him the money he wanted, she gave it to Kate's family instead. So she knows he'll be pissed off.

Losing interest now, not a clue where it's going only that I hate DT.,

lazymum99 · 24/01/2020 22:09

What did his mum do with that money she withdrew and why?

She looks terrified at the end.

lazymum99 · 24/01/2020 22:11

I see my question has already been answered. Although not sure a wad of cash is going to help much when your daughters just been killed

Goingabitcrazy · 24/01/2020 22:12

Haven't commented but have lurked for the last couple of weeks. Like a pp I didn't believe it was DT as it was to obvious but now I'm convinced.
Felt sorry for his mother this episode. Think she's feeling guilt as she might've been able to step in sooner. Sorry if I've missed it but has anything about DT father been mentioned. His mother reminds me of mine. Worn down by a narccisit abusive arsehole and I'm thinking she's seen the same behaviours in her son

WhatsTheLatest · 24/01/2020 22:14

Wasnt the money she gave to repay the money he had been loaned?

BorneoBabe · 24/01/2020 22:15

@SushiGo Thank you! I missed that that was her mum.

Charley50 · 24/01/2020 22:22

Steve (aka Jon Hamm) feels guilty because she was pleading with him and warned him that DT would kill her, and he just shook her off. That's destroying him, alongside the obviously freaked out that his missus fucked the evil DT (sorry, really bad with names). I like her, I think she should explain to him a bit more about the manipulation.

It is annoying when they let cops interview their ex-friend / neighbour. What sort of mugs to they take us viewers for?!

Findumdum1 · 24/01/2020 22:32

Now I think the mum did do it and this is about coercive control. she couldnt stand living with DT.

purpleme12 · 24/01/2020 22:38

I stuck with this til now (halfway through tonight's episode) but I'm so little invested that I've already read to the end of the thread before watching the whole thing
I've come to the conclusion it's not worth watching

IcedPurple · 24/01/2020 22:41

There's only one more episode so I'll stick it out but I agree - the plot is thin and the characters unengaging. I think Channel 4 put it in the Friday evening slot - not the usual place for a crime 'thriller' with a big name like DT - for a reason. They know they've got a stinker on their hands.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 24/01/2020 22:42

I think the ending is going to be ambiguous & we won't know for sure who did it - we'll be left to make up our own minds.

CheekyFucker · 24/01/2020 22:42

I am glad they have not added too much new stuff in.

Puts a completely different perspective on the relationship between Kate and her Mother in Law, and helps with the timeline. Kate knew about Jess before the car crash. And we had confirmation of the drug used.

Steve is not looking good, even with his sexy pants.

Poor Kate. After being demonised you can only have pity for her now. Almost makes me wonder if it was actually bad enough for her to think that dying and taking her girls with her to protect them from that bastard was her best choice.

He was up to his neck in debt, and had mortgages his Mother's farm already and borrowed from others (family? I didn't recognise the name).

Another skinny bearded man in the hospital pushing a wheelchair past Steve and Kate. Must have been a job lot.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 24/01/2020 22:44

@CheekyFucker I noticed the guy in hospital too & thought "ffs another one" Grin

CheekyFucker · 24/01/2020 22:46

I think it is really well written and am really enjoying it. It is different to the usual, but I like that. Part of me would be satisfied if there was no definite conclusion. How often in life is there a crime that has all the loose ends tied off neatly.

almostfreeatlast · 24/01/2020 22:47

Kate doing it to prevent her and the girls having to live with forever is definitely looking like an option

colouringinpro · 24/01/2020 22:49

I think it was DT, and that in the last episode his mum will kill him!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 24/01/2020 22:53

What I don’t get ( like there’s just one thing 😆) is why Kate was so angry with the mother in law on the beach when their relationship as seen in the washing up scene seemed good? She said to Tom ( before Charlotte fell) ‘if your mother says one thing...’

ChicChicChicChiclana · 24/01/2020 22:55

I think tonight's episode was rather clunky. All of a sudden DT is so much the pantomime villain he might as well be twirling his moustache. I don't remember Kate saying to Steve "he'll kill us all" - when was that?

CheekyFucker · 24/01/2020 22:57

@LaBelleSauvage123 good point. The MIL doesn't like how her son treats Kate, but does fuck all about it.

I hope she does kill him. That would be a great ending.

CheekyFucker · 24/01/2020 22:59

@ChicChicChicChiclana in the hospital, after the car crash. Kate says she is on loads of pills and would like a drug test, then later grabs Steve and says 'one day he will kill me'.

colouringinpro · 24/01/2020 22:59

Well that was intense! Like the fact that the female detective saw through all the male shit!

Werking · 24/01/2020 22:59

I think the acting us excellent more or less across the board and it’s a big reason why I’m invested.

After tonight’s episode, I think a big problem with it is that they didn’t set up it was Kate enough in the beginning, so that the revelation that it was probably him wasn’t a big enough turn and contrast. There were little points made tonight, even just him saying it was Kate and the order she did things, that I think would have been better off being in an earlier episode.

They certainly jumped the gun with having the funerals so quickly - the detectives hadn’t had the opportunity to be fully convinced it was Kate, or anyone. It felt mawkish to me, a deliberate tug at the heartstrings to show the girls’ funerals.

As for whodunnit and why, I stand by my earlier hunch that although DT/Tom was abusive, there was more going and someone else was responsible for the injections and/or the fire. I still think Jess is suspicious. I hope there’s more edge to her character anyway. I hope we see her and Kate having teamed up in some way in the final episode, with Jess believing Kate about what DT was like.

SushiGo · 24/01/2020 23:14

Honestly, I really don't think there is or has to be a twist.

Whether it's Kate or Tom or some combination in the end, it's about abusive relationships, and the dynamics of all these people around them who kind of knew but did nothing, and how that ends.

I think it's fantastically written and acted.

Floooopy · 24/01/2020 23:16

Hmmm... has all the injections got something to do with it? The kids, DT (do we know if mum was injected too?), but also the IVF injections, plus the plaster for the burn on the inside of the arm in one of the step children that some eagle-eyed person spotted before.
