Christmas Day...

Merry Christmas Corrie Fans...
And those who watch through habit.

Rita's in the floor, Derek's in a bind, Gemma's had babies and is going out her mind.
Nick is grimacing nicely, and Sarah's forgot the plot.
And we're all just gathering around and hoping Dev gets shot.

snippets!! Not snipers Grin

Redglitter · 07/02/2020 22:50

What a lot of rubbish tonight's episode was.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 07/02/2020 23:05

I liked the bus music. all very odd, hadn't seen ads for a special. silly the urn getting run over.

thenightsky · 07/02/2020 23:11

@JuanSheetIsPlenty Snipers? Now your talking. Bring on the snipers!

thenightsky · 07/02/2020 23:12

Argh *you're! Not your.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 07/02/2020 23:18

Grin they’d be there a while taking out everyone we hate!

EachandEveryone · 07/02/2020 23:19

I loved the girls playing with their balls. I just love Maureen Lipman. She shares a flat with Rula Lenska five days a week 😄

eddiemairswife · 07/02/2020 23:36

I can see Maureen and Rula out getting tipsy each week.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 07/02/2020 23:38

Does anyone know what rhyme the girls were saying? I wonder if they were replicating a scene from one of the very first Corrie episodes. The stuff about playing with rubber balls and Evelyn saying there were children who would love to have a rubber ball felt like it could have been lifted out of the 60’s.

PorpentinaScamander · 07/02/2020 23:46

I thought the bus would blow up in some kind of spectacular thing. Naturally most of them would have survived.

It was a bit meh for a special episode.

JemimaTab · 08/02/2020 02:39

It was a bit silly. I was distracted by the countryside scenes which suggested they had taken a very odd route indeed to Blackpool (via Cumbria??). And why would Rita give her rings to Amy rather than, say, Jenny or Gemma (who she at least seems to be more close to)? Some of the acting really let the side down too. I’m thinking of Rita (even the tiny flashback bit showed how much better she used to be), and Ken’s bit at the end was so crap it was difficult to tell whether it was in fact him deciding to leave, or not.

ajandjjmum · 08/02/2020 06:53

Juan
The very first scene originally was two girls playing in the street apparently - I can't actually remember! Grin
Ken's ending was just bad writing - or maybe they didn't want it to be clear cut?
Don't know why Rita gave Elsie's rings to Amy, unless it was symbolically passing Corrie on to the next generation, which she represents as the youngest there? Nice to hear Elsie mentioned though, and the other voices from the past.

PinkDaydreams · 08/02/2020 06:57

I found last nights episode rather boring I’m afraid. I was easily distracted and gave up on it in the end. I kept saying to DH that it’s taking them forever to get to black pool, I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought the same!

woodhill · 08/02/2020 08:05

Evelyn's hairstyle is a bit silly. She wasn't even born in WW2 but looks as though she could be.

Poetryinaction · 08/02/2020 08:10

That really was boring. Another episode of Rita feeling a bit sad and lonely. She hasn't really done anything for years anyway. Give her a big fraud storyline or something.

NCTDN · 08/02/2020 09:28

Where was Sean living until he went back to Eileens last night?

SidneyP · 08/02/2020 10:34

@NCTDN with Billy, Paul & summer

Plumpplums · 08/02/2020 11:08

I really enjoyed it, just surprised that Gail didn't talk about Elsie Tanner Dennis's mother. Gail lived with her for years and was like her mother. She was a massive character in CS

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 08/02/2020 11:15

Evelyn's hairstyle is a bit silly. She wasn't even born in WW2 but looks as though she could be.

Agree. She was born in 1946 so I would have been a teen and young adult in the swinging 60’s. I’m sure they could find a 60’s hairstyle that would suit her character.

Mairyhinge · 08/02/2020 12:10

The very first episode of coronation street opened with 2 girls singing the same rhyme whist playing ball so it was a 'ode' to that.
I thinks it's 'Mary at the cottage door'.
I reckon Rita gave her rings to Amy as a sort of passing on of the strong female resident of the street. If amy follows family footsteps she'll be there forever. Nice gesture though. She could've given them to Jenny but she'll probably pass everything else to her eventually.

SymphonyofShadows · 08/02/2020 12:39

Perhaps Rita sees Amy as another Elsie Tanner in the making. They were her rings originally

NCTDN · 08/02/2020 13:10

Also wouldn't jenny have found it really tough going to Blackpool (if they had made it!). After all it was very dad that was killed there.

CoolShoeshine · 08/02/2020 13:26

@NCTDN - I thought that about Jenny - pretty disturbing for Rita too!

CoolCarrie · 08/02/2020 13:48

Julie Goodyear said she frankly couldn’t cope with the lack of rehearsal and the amount of episodes now, that’s why she didn’t last very long the last time she reappeared.
I think it’s a case of quantity over quality these days unfortunately, probably due to the product placement involved now.

CoolCarrie · 08/02/2020 13:48

Maybe Rita sees Amy as Elsie in the making?
