Christmas Day...

Merry Christmas Corrie Fans...
And those who watch through habit.

Rita's in the floor, Derek's in a bind, Gemma's had babies and is going out her mind.
Nick is grimacing nicely, and Sarah's forgot the plot.
And we're all just gathering around and hoping Dev gets shot.

"I really, really hope they don’t have her killing him or wounding him and then going to court for it à la The Archers"

Keep away from Moira, Yasmeen!!

Plumpplums · 06/02/2020 11:21

These are the story lines that CS are good at. The low rumbling, true to life ones. Well done to the writers who have highlighted this hideous behaviour.

eggandonion · 06/02/2020 12:35

I think it's especially shocking as yasmeen was such a strong, feisty woman who has been undermined. Rita is becoming a bit of a lonely old lady, which is sad too.

eenymeenyminyme · 06/02/2020 13:30

Some of the things Geoff was saying & doing last night were almost word for word what my ExH used to say / do... it's really unsettled me. People saying 'why doesn't she leave?' don't understand that at the time that doesn't feel like an option.

eggandonion · 06/02/2020 15:04

Logically Adam, Imran and Craig need to be involved. Did he marry her to take ownership of the house? Where was he living? Does Yasmeen's ex own the house? She needs a barring order policed by Craig. (I make up the law, as do the writers).
Eeny that sounds dreadful. I did a training course in work 35 years ago - I'm ancient- and the woman leading it had just managed to help her sister leave similar. She explained the 'no option' to us, like you. (The course was not related to this, but it was the most important thing I learned that day!)

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 06/02/2020 15:49

I think one of the things that stops women leaving (and was certainly the case for me) was that because he wasn’t actually hitting her she doesn’t feel it’s ok to call it abuse and so not a valid reason to leave. Him “Being mean” is what it felt like to me but that didn’t feel like a valid reason to end a relationship and break up a family. I felt like people would think I was ridiculous for leaving because he was mean. I didn’t have the words to label the behaviour like I do now. I didn’t know about coercive control or emotional abuse. I thought I didn’t have any right to call it abuse because he wasn’t punching me. He was doing other things that physically hurt me but he could always explain it away as an accident or I was careless or “I pushed you- I didn’t hit you” and made it seem like I was exaggerating. For ages after I left I couldn’t even give a straight answer to people when they asked what had happened. Only my best friend knew as she witnessed the final straw which was also another “accidental” hurting incident.

I hope Tim is instrumental in exposing Geoff, there will no room for doubt if his own son is against him.

ellenanora5 · 06/02/2020 16:01

It's very hard to watch, but like Juan and others here I've been there and it is so hard to leave, I got out 18 years ago and even now watching scenes like last night leaves me feeling crap, god I hate him, I want to go and get her out of there.

But I do think Tim will realise what is going on, at the magic show Geoff turned on him and called him a name for getting squid and squib mixed up, he looked like he'd been struck but Eileen said something and distracted him.

I want Yasmeen to ask Tim about his mother and I bet he'll be singing a different tune altogether.

eggandonion · 06/02/2020 16:07

Is Tim's mother still alive? I suppose Tim is a bit distracted with the bigamy issue. But Brian and Cathy have no excuse. Where is Alex?

woodhill · 06/02/2020 17:49

I would like Yasmeen to address Geoff about the things he has done

Keeping tabs on her

Controlling her money

Telling lies

Telling her to clean and run restaurant whilst he does nothing.

Run for the hills.

No Geoff should leave

NCTDN · 06/02/2020 21:15

I think that Eileen is questioning Geoffs behaviour and will be the one to suss it out.

informedisgood · 07/02/2020 01:53

On top of everything else, she's now financially attached to him both in the business and the house. In real life he could destroy her financially too. Worst nightmare to be entangled with an evil person like this.

CoolShoeshine · 07/02/2020 06:12

Poor Yasmeen she’s such a sweetheart. I’m hoping that we’ll hear more of the backstory around Tim’s mum. They referred to her months back and said that they had no contact with her because of her behaviour. Hoping Tim might get suspicious about his Dad and seek out his mum to learn the truth from her.

eggandonion · 07/02/2020 11:31

Apart from the house, does Yasmeen have many assets? I'm hoping nasty ex husband owned it outright and it now belongs to Zidane. And that they are not officially married.
And he gets bumped off by Gary, who goes to prison for life in some far away place where nobody visits him.

sneakythecat49 · 07/02/2020 12:53

Isn't there a thing where if it's a very short marriage you can't claim on a partners assets? He didn't go on the deeds of the house did he?

eggandonion · 07/02/2020 14:34

I hope not!

ajandjjmum · 07/02/2020 15:40

Big episode tonight apparently.

Honeyroar · 07/02/2020 15:50

Yes but I saw a clip and it looked quite boring- lots of Rita, Ken and Audrey reflecting on the past.

I’m off to bed at 7 - up at 1am for work. Will rely on your updates this week. (Please!)

SidneyP · 07/02/2020 16:52

10,000th episode tonight. Have heard a big thing is happening in tonight's episode so interested to see what it is.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 07/02/2020 19:39

BUS!!!!

They’re giving us the bus.

But.... the wrong people are getting on it! (Except sean- he’s welcome on the bus)

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 07/02/2020 19:42

Oh and Amy and Mary. They can go on the bus. Claudia shouldve got on too.

thenightsky · 07/02/2020 19:49

Did Geoff just give Yasmeen a single £5 note for her go to Blackpool for the day with?

And how unrealistic - ashes arrive and Rita is weeping - 10 mins later a luxury bus is organised and every female on the street is miraculously free to spend the day in Blackpool. WTF

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 07/02/2020 19:51

Oh I want to smack Amy every time she pulls that stupid fucking face!! Angry

Agree this is a ridiculous story. So unrealistic. Who the hell hijacks a woman’s journey to scatter her husband’s ashes? Hmm

eddiemairswife · 07/02/2020 19:53

Is it just me, or does any one else find these Coronation Street 'specials' tedious?

SidneyP · 07/02/2020 19:55

Who is the coach driver? He looks really familiar.
