Christmas Day...

Merry Christmas Corrie Fans...
And those who watch through habit.

Rita's in the floor, Derek's in a bind, Gemma's had babies and is going out her mind.
Nick is grimacing nicely, and Sarah's forgot the plot.
And we're all just gathering around and hoping Dev gets shot.

I just want to go back to Fizz and the gun...am I right in thinking she gave the gun to Gary saying she had been told it was decommissioned but he then looked at it in a sort of knowledgeable way and said 'no it isn't ' in front of her? He then locked it up in a box, she saw him do that. I'm just trying to work out if she knew the gun was an actual gun at the time, so when she apologised to David last night (awkward!) she was lying? I seem to remember that she was horrified when she heard there was a gun loose on the street and checked her keys by the door as she knew straight away it was that gun. So she knew it was a working gun? So it's her fault?

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 08:58

I’m just not buying the DA storyline at all this time. Like clawdy says- it’s been down well in the past but this is clunky and rushed.

As I recall, Fizz bought a gun thinking it was an antique and decommissioned.
When she showed Gary, he looked it over and realised it wasn't decommissioned. He's an ex soldier so has more knowledge of guns than Fizz.
He took it off fizz and locked it in a trunk.
So she did know the gun was live firing but, and I may be wrong, she's denying knowing it was live firing so as not to get Gary into trouble and lose her job at his antique she'd area.
Think that's it. It's a dumb story line.

Would have been so easy to just have had Gary have a shotgun. Maybe he found in Ricks possessions. Have Gary use it to threaten his debtors, including the one that used it too shoot Robert. When Gary ties the guy up he could have been shown to put the gun away and the guy watch where Gary kept it. Then when he escape the ropes, break open the cupboards take the gun and use Gary's own gun on Gary... Making it a more apt and fitting revenge.
But what do I know.

Regarding the gun, how did the shooter guy (can't remember his name) know it was in the trunk? And why did Fizz look at her keys? Did he take the keys from Fizz's house or was, somehow Jade/Hope involved? Hope was very interested in the gun wasn't she? Perhaps Hope took the keys and went to the lockup/2nd hand shop (as it's now called) and unlocked the trunk, played with the gun, left it out and shooter man saw?

Yasmeen's abuse - I think this has been building for a while, slowly without anyone realising. As PP said, it became a little noticeable after the mugging but was disguised as Geoff being "caring". Initially, I thought he was just after her money, was going to fleece her and go. But, the screws have been twisting slowly and he's worn her down, isolated her and controlling everything. Makes me very uncomfortable watching it so I guess that's a good sign from a drama point of view!

Deadringer · 16/01/2020 10:52

I know that the gun was used in a shooting spree, but I can't see what was so wrong with what fizz did. She bought an antique, can't the police check with the people she bought it from? Even taking Gary out of it, once it was discovered that it was a live gun it was locked away. Who could predict that someone would break in within a few hours and use it to hurt people? I don't get it.
Anyway I think the build up to the dv has been quite slow, it has just been ramped up lately. Yasmeen knows she isn't an alcoholic, but if her drinking upsets Geoff, even if that is irrational, she will give it up. I would wonder though why he is suddenly so badly affected by, A
dust, and B. her having a drink, but I suppose he has managed to convince her that he is ill and a bit vulnerable. He sickens me though, I hope this storyline wraps up soon, even though I know irl it could go on for years.

Juliette20 · 16/01/2020 10:57

In The Archers they built up the coercive control and DV storyline for about two years IIRC, but in Corrie I think 12 months would be enough. We're already more than six months in, so it hasn't happened overnight.

Juliette20 · 16/01/2020 11:05

I know Gary and Jade are by far the bigger ne'er-do-wells but I find myself having little sympathy for Fizz. She is fundamentally dishonest, frequently nasty, a rubbish parent and as thick as two short planks. Tyrone and the girls would be better off without her.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 11:14

Yasmeen knows she isn't an alcoholic, but if her drinking upsets Geoff, even if that is irrational, she will give it up.

No she actually thinks she has a drink problem now. She told Aliyah last night she has one and is quitting.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 11:15

Agree juliette wrt Fizz. She’s a horrible character.

eggandonion · 16/01/2020 11:23

Fizz used to be ok, a bit arty? Now she's horrible. And why is she still Mrs Stape? I'm sure I would change back to my original name if my husband was a kidnapper and murderer. Was she originally Fizz Brown?
Maureen Lipman has a brilliant 'what the hell am I doing in this rubbish programme' expression.

PinkDaydreams · 16/01/2020 12:14

@eggandonion I actually said out loud (to the tv) “why are you a Stape still?” But (surprisingly) nobody answered!!

eggandonion · 16/01/2020 12:22

I suppose ope is ope stape? I said it to my husband, but he didn't respond.

ellenanora5 · 16/01/2020 12:30

I think if Fizz had come clean to the police and explained properly how she got the gun then she wouldn't have been blamed but for some stupid reason she is protecting Gary.

Geoff also set up the robbery in the house and blamed Yasmeen and Alya then he installed the camera to watch her every move.

I always thought Tim had been no contact with his father because of how he treated his mother, I'm not sure why I thought that though.

PinkDaydreams · 16/01/2020 12:34

I also thought tim didn’t like his dad because of how he’d treated his mother. I vaguely remember some time ago Tim saying something about it, could have been before Geoff came into the soap.

cheesewitheverything · 16/01/2020 13:50

@Pennyroyal that's what I don't get about the gun storyline - it seems too big a coincidence to me. So presumably Jade had something to do with it? I know she was earwigging at some point so knew what was going on and of course little Ope is the devil child and could well have got the keys for someone if asked. I still think Fizz is to blame for not handing the gun to the police immediately rather than just trusting Gary to look after it in a ropey old box in a lock up. You can't just have guns kicking around the place, locked up or not. I think this might be the ace that Jade is saving for later perhaps?

bizzey · 16/01/2020 14:29

Just joining in (always read the thread !) again .
Has Fizz been in prison before ?
A comment she made when prison has been mentioned and she has replied
" I cant do that again"
And "been thete done that "

Also who did John stape kill ?
Was it his mother ?
I know he had affair and kidnapped rosie.

Police thought Fizz had something to do with it ??

I aggree with pp re Tim and Geoff.
He was not happy with his dad being back on the sceen .Did sally persuade him to give his dad a second chance or somethi g ?
Oh and another one ( sorry)
Was Gary really paying the workers/contractors from his credit card /overdraft .
Police never asked for his statements .

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/01/2020 16:43

Tim's a daddy's boy.

cheesewitheverything · 16/01/2020 17:16

I think Fizz has been in prison before though I cant remember why. I think Little Ope was born in prison wasn't she? I vaguely remember Fizz moping around some unit there with Ope in her arms. It's poor Tyrone I feel sorry for!

I have hopes that Aliyah will spot what Geoff is up to as she obviously has concerns but is too busy with her own storyline to bother what her gran is up to and to be honest as a young person you would probably imagine that your gran had too much sense for this to happen to her. On a side note, does Geoff still have the cameras in the house or does he not need them now he has married poor Yasmin?

Redglitter · 16/01/2020 17:20

Exactly! Theres no way under the circumstances shed have been charged.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 17:24

He was still looking at the CCTV footage on his laptop when they had just got back from Vegas- that’s how he knew aliyah had stayed over with Ryan, but I haven’t seen him check them since.

CoolShoeshine · 16/01/2020 17:53

The Geoff storyline seems to have been gradually building up for ages from what I can remember. I vaguely remember him saying something nasty to her one time when they were first together and people were commenting how out of character it seemed. Then nothing happened for a while. When he orchestrated the robbery the story had been going for a while at that point iirc.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 18:12

Yes the DA storyline started ages ago but it’s all suddenly ramped up very fast this last week or so. Lots of stuff happening in a short space of time. The “allergies”, cleaning rota, him berating her while Cathy was in the kitchen, the drinking problem accusations, taking her cards etc. It’s all been crammed into a week.

eggandonion · 16/01/2020 18:50

Was fizz in prison because she was pretending to be someone else in the John Stape saga, I can never follow the crime storylines.

ajandjjmum · 16/01/2020 20:47

Or was it because she and Tyrone ran away with the girls?

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/01/2020 21:08

Yes WireBrush
It started ages ago but now it's got really bad suddenly.
