They're mumbling.

Ffs.

They can hear it three houses away. The telly is up at 11. Still can't hear a damn thing.

Is this what pay my tv licence fee for?!

I really enjoyed it. It deviated slightly from the usual storyline, which made a refreshing change.
Looking forward to part two tonight.

DuckWillow · 23/12/2019 15:43

Loved it but have loved Guy Pearce as an actor ever since he left the “pretty boy” role he had on Neighbours. He broke that image spectacularly with Priscilla Queen of the Desert and then had been fabulous in everything he’s done since.

Looking forward to parts 2 and 3.

I still can't erase the jaw scene from my memory.

I'm a delicate little flower though and ban myself from horror films or I don't sleep properly for days after.

I'll watch the next two instalments but not by myself and only with all the lights on.

DasherDancefloorPrancerKitchen · 23/12/2019 16:21

And yes, even with all his reinventions and accolades, Guy Pearce will always be Mike from Neighbours in my eyes too.

Rudolphiana · 23/12/2019 16:27

Yep, Mike from Neighbours.

Mumista · 23/12/2019 16:29

I'm really enjoying it!

DuckWillow · 23/12/2019 16:47

I liked the scenes between Bob Cratchett and Scrooge in this version with Cratchett showing almost an affection for Scrooge who in turn seems more human than the usual caricature performance. Scrooge standing at the door and pausing before opening it while a ratchet urges him to give the carol singers the coins. He actually almost seems to consider it before telling them to go away.

halocompanach · 23/12/2019 16:50

They've also adapted it too far away from the original, not good for people doing it for GCSE.

Mumista · 23/12/2019 16:56

I like that it has taken the idea of the story and run with it rather than making it a GCSE-watch-this-instead-of-read-the-book-clone. I also like the parallels with austerity Britain, even if this has been done a little clumsily.

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 23/12/2019 16:58

Is it me or were they suggesting Scrooge has some form of OCD? The hand washing, incessant counting etc?

Clawdy · 23/12/2019 18:14

I think the Scrooge - Bob relationship is portrayed so wrongly that all the poignancy of the ending when Scrooge changes towards him so much, is going to be lost.

BuckingFrolics · 23/12/2019 18:46

Oh you lot ! I knew Scrooge's face was familiar and now I know why! Omg. The horror of it.

DuckWillow · 23/12/2019 19:39

What is your horror Bucking, the pretty boy look or Gut Pearce in a frock? Grin

circleorsquare · 23/12/2019 21:13

Scrooge reminds me of Chris Packham!!!!! I'm sitting down to watch it but may need to pour a gin to get through it!

The80sweregreat · 23/12/2019 21:14

Guy pierce is brilliant in this.

RudolphIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/12/2019 21:29

"Guy, we want you to play Scrooge in A Christmas Carol"
"Great!"
"...can you ride a camel?"

Confused
Chienloup · 23/12/2019 21:31

Oh I do so love Guy Pearce. I'm enjoying tonight far more than last night.

Oh and look, it's the boy from Responsible Child as little Ebenezer.

CoolCarrie · 23/12/2019 21:35

Why only Earth did they change Fan’s name to Lottie?

DuckWillow · 23/12/2019 21:42

I do see why a precious poster could see Richard E Grant in Guy Pearce.

Sadly Richard is a celebrity best avoided...my niece worked for Apple and he was spectacularly rude to her because they wouldn’t repair an iPhone his son/daughterhad dropped for free “don’t you know who I am” may have been uttered.
Nices was destroyed as he’s always been a favourite actor of hers.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 23/12/2019 21:44

I like the fact that it isn't a straight adaptation. How many more of those does anyone need at this stage? There has to be a different sort of angle to make it worth redoing the story.

Guy Pearce is definitely the most disconcertingly fanciable Scrooge I've seen. I too can't help seeing him as Mike from Neighbours!

CoolCarrie · 23/12/2019 21:50

Oh dear

CoolCarrie · 23/12/2019 21:51

A pp called it right about Tim.
There aren’t any laughs in this are there?

Leflic · 23/12/2019 21:53

I like it. I love Dickens and this has all the elements he would have wanted surely.
There have been so many reworked originals.

CoolCarrie · 23/12/2019 21:55

What a total bastard he is

CoolCarrie · 23/12/2019 21:56

How are they going to redeem him from this , it’s going to be interesting
