They're mumbling.

Ffs.

They can hear it three houses away. The telly is up at 11. Still can't hear a damn thing.

Is this what pay my tv licence fee for?!

Turned it off.

MirandaWest · 22/12/2019 21:59

We’re watching on catch up so have seen about 10 minutes. DS is doing it for GCSE and is not impressed with the interpretation so far

AlecOrAlonzo · 22/12/2019 22:00

I am out.

Can't hear it. Can't see it. Can't be arsed with it.

Turned it off. Last few years the BBC’s Xmas adaptations (couple of Agatha Christies spring to mind) have been dark, depressing, dreary and political. This was panning out the same way. Starting off with someone pissing on a grave. Merry fecking Christmas Grin
I’d rather watch a great drama/ whodunnit and the Muppets Xmas carol again!!!

GoGoLego · 22/12/2019 22:04

It was ok I didn't understand all of it but got the jist

Could hear it ok just very gloomy

Gutted I'm out tomorrow so I I'll have to catch up

tinkywinkyshandbag · 22/12/2019 22:05

Very disappointing. I was looking forward to dark and gritty but also authentic. Such a pity after all the hype.

Fishcakey · 22/12/2019 22:08

Nothing like the book!

Norugratsatall · 22/12/2019 22:13

I think I would have enjoyed it had I been able to hear it! Too much muttering under their breath! I totally missed most of the dialogue surrounding the letter to his cousin in the US, consequently did not know why she threw it into the fire.

Dragonglass · 22/12/2019 22:14

Nothing like the book but I really liked it. Can't wait until tomorrow.

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 22/12/2019 22:21

I could hear and see it. It was dark, but I think that’s the point perhaps.
I liked it, I liked the different angle it took and really it had to be different from the book; there’s been so many adaptations.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 22/12/2019 22:25

I like that it's so different to the book and other adaptations. There's no point doing it if it's simply a copy of what's been done before.

Tigresswoods · 22/12/2019 22:26

Watching made me realise I know the muppet version very well.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 22/12/2019 22:31

Oh no. I've recorded it as it looked good.

I watched the muppet Christmas Carol earlier. Still love that one.

DasherDancefloorPrancerKitchen · 22/12/2019 22:32

The jaw scene.

I came here to see if everyone else was horrified but not a mention.

Yikes.

I'm going to have to watch Elf before bed to undo that.

JellyfishandShells · 22/12/2019 22:32

I liked it to begin with, and I was enjoying the different take on a well known story - but I was in the wrong mood for it and gave up.

MinesaPinot · 22/12/2019 22:33

I really enjoyed it

IcedPurple · 22/12/2019 22:34

Absolutely love 'A Christmas Carol' but really disliked this. Trying so so hard to be 'edgy' and 'relevant' but failing miserably. Won't be tuning in tomorrow and I expect viewing figures to plummet as thousands of others make the same decision.

Clawdy · 22/12/2019 22:34

Very drawn out, gloomily lit, hard-to-follow dialogue.......and modern-sounding swearing. Bob Marley was totally unrecognisable from the character in the book, as was the nephew. I liked the idea of more back-story on Scrooge's boyhood, Belle, Fan etc, but this is not going to work for me. Very disappointing.

DamsonDress · 22/12/2019 22:36

I really enjoyed it but I tend to love anything Graham is in.

Yes, was disappointed that it hasn't stuck with the book but have decided not to let that annoy me.

Didn't like the fire/Grenfell parallel. Felt pointed, clumsy and insensitive. Particularly the common sense bit.

Still, really looking forward to watching the rest. Quite like it's a different spin. Albeit very BBC.

BuckingFrolics · 22/12/2019 22:37

I loved it. Best thing on tv for ages. Creative, imaginative, creepy and omg Stephen Graham is just superb.

(Didn't Carr for the Cratchets other than Tom who was good.).

MincedOath · 22/12/2019 22:42

Oh I was completely enthralled (after I'd turned the volume up). And I'm not usually a fan of too much tweaking of things. Loved it.

Difficultcustomer · 22/12/2019 22:43

I liked the start of this but thought it was way too slow. The whole book recorded on audible is three and a half hours. Also found the mumbling and changes of volume annoying. Won’t bother with the rest.

Norugratsatall · 22/12/2019 22:45

@Clawdy

Bob Marley! 😂😂

It's Jacob Marley and Bob Cratchet

CoatTails · 22/12/2019 22:48

@Clawdy
Bob Marley was totally unrecognisable from the character in the book

This has made me proper laugh tonight 😂

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 22/12/2019 22:48

Bob Marley Grin. Now that would be a big change from the book
