A 3 partner shown mon to wed this week

Sales associate Thomas faints at a pitch presentation and loses the sale

His colleagues then seem out to get him - is it bullying or banter

Looks good

I can’t watch this for any length of time, I last about five minutes and turn it off and end up putting it back on - it’s so uncomfortable to watch. This type of subtle bullying goes on all the time, and I really hope the ending portrays real life and not for drama purposes.

A lot of it is far fetched, and I’m cringing watching it and his desperation with the sales pitches to his school friend.

My biggest question though, where the hell is HR in all of this? Surely the company must have a department?

TheTruthAboutLove · 18/12/2019 18:58

Ps. Surely Thomas must know Sales roles are ten a penny in the Home Counties and could quite easily get a job elsewhere?! It’s all so weird, I know it’s an ITV drama and always far fetched as they are - but it’s almost like they’ve gathered a load of far fetched Mumsnet Employment Forum posts and made a worst case scenario for office bullying.

GoldenFlaps · 18/12/2019 19:14

I watched most of the first episode but decided to scrap the rest when I realised how shit it was making me feel.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 18/12/2019 21:02

I was bullied by a manager in a job I only stuck out for six months and this is like a sort of compressed version of it. I look back now and think, why didn't I just tell her to fuck off, or refuse to be affected by it. I can't explain why I didn't. All I know is that she undermined me at every turn, made me feel incompetent, gaslighted me by telling me to do a job in a particular way and then bollocking me for it and claiming she'd never told me that, made snide 'banter' type comments that were just borderline nasty and accused me of being uptight if I didn't laugh along. She would say things like "Oh, Eoin is such a quiet, icy little thing, isn't she, she's got no heart", and I honestly started to believe it after a while.

I don't know what's going to happen with this, but I don't think it's all that implausible. It's probably not going to be as straightforward as it appears though!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/12/2019 21:04

Here we go ........:

Hope it has a good ending and the bullies shown up for who they are

anotherweenamechange · 18/12/2019 21:11

@EoinMcLovesCakeJumper I had a similar situation and looking back I think why the hell did I put up with that as long as I did? It was absolutely awful.

Missing The Baby Has Landed for this tonigjt.

MrsWhites · 18/12/2019 21:14

I agree with the poster who said the ‘nice lady’ is actually the ring leader of the bullies, she’s just cleverer than the other 2. Glad Thomas has finally seen it for what it is and has reported the bullying!

WeWantSweet · 18/12/2019 21:20

Uncomfortable but compelling drama, laid on with a trowel perhaps but thumbs up to ITV for commissioning more varied subject matters.

MrsWhites · 18/12/2019 21:25

Oh this is horrible but why doesn’t he just walk out of the room??

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 18/12/2019 21:26

Yes, why the hell is he going along with any of this? What are they up to?

anotherweenamechange · 18/12/2019 21:28

God it’s ridiculous

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 18/12/2019 21:28

Ok this is ridiculous now

WALK OUT the room Man for chrissake

AvaGrace412 · 18/12/2019 21:29

I can't help but feel that there's going to be some huge twist.

HabbyHadno · 18/12/2019 21:30

Ha! The 'at home' montage is practically me every day, but with added kids running around screaming.

TheTruthAboutLove · 18/12/2019 21:31

They can’t have mediation unless both parties consent. It’s not up to the manager to say he thinks it will help. Another failure from ITV in continuity.

This will make people be so scared to report workplace bullying, you’d think ITV would use this as an educational tool to be able to speak out against harassment like this, but nope. The bullies always win.

informedisgood · 18/12/2019 21:32

I think we need there to be a twist otherwise it's unbearable...

MrsWhites · 18/12/2019 21:35

Definitely needs there to be a twist. No decent HR department would but someone in this position.

Thomas really hasn’t helped himself though has he?

anotherweenamechange · 18/12/2019 21:38

Is there a race element too do we think?

AvaGrace412 · 18/12/2019 21:38

It's gone absolutely bonkers! No way would they get away with deciding he's getting redundancy and saying he's got dandruff and bad breath

MrsWhites · 18/12/2019 21:42

Unless there is a huge twist at the end this is awfully irresponsible of ITV IMO, who would report workplace bullying after watching that??

TheTruthAboutLove · 18/12/2019 21:42

This is what is so annoying.

This programme could have done so much good in regards to workplace bullying and making people come forward, realise the subtle signs and that it isn’t normal. Instead ITV have made it so you’re not believed, offered redundancy, made to feel you’re going mental, antidepressants. They’ve done a massive disservice to the office culture and reporting practises. One day this thing will be in a HR journal.

I’m so disappointed as they could have done so much good. It would’ve been just as good with one episode about the bullying and two with Thomas at a tribunal and having the strength of character to fight them. Instead we’ve got this.

MrsWhites · 18/12/2019 21:48

Could they be recording her??

informedisgood · 18/12/2019 21:48

Is he taping her? Hope so..It's all it can be if the tables are to turn!

TheTruthAboutLove · 18/12/2019 21:49

I really hope he’s recording her here. He must be as there could be no other twist.

AvaGrace412 · 18/12/2019 21:49

I hope he is taping her!
