Sales associate Thomas faints at a pitch presentation and loses the sale

His colleagues then seem out to get him - is it bullying or banter

Looks good

And continuity does not mean what a pp thinks it means.

BitOfFun · 18/12/2019 23:09

I'm a bit puzzled by the ending. He has already contacted the bizzies, so he won't be keeping it to himself, will he? That ship has sailed.

RockingAroundTheXMasTree · 18/12/2019 23:10

Found it massively uncomfortable to watch. Happy with the end though. That spiteful bitch!

BitOfFun · 18/12/2019 23:48

I agree with the point about continuity made by @midsomermurderess.

My understanding is that it relates to sequential visuals or events: continuity in filmmaking is the practice of ensuring that details in a shot are consistent from shot to shot within a film scene.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/12/2019 23:52

I was shouting record it and he did

So it was racial mainly

And yes the nice one wasn’t nice. Well done who called that

I’m glad he got his justice

And he called the police on her

And I hope he got his 6/7 figures tho via’s tribunal so all knew what happened and not a cover up

I did wonder if boss knew what was going on deep down or that he was played by the team and beleived them

But yes get proof

Brilliant piece of distraction. those two younger ones reminded me of people from the apprentice.tense stuff, maybe a bit overblown in places but it’s a drama, not a doco!

BitOfFun · 19/12/2019 03:14

I don't think it was racial mainly, but the fact she made that comment among all the other nastiness meant it could be treated as a police matter.

BustedDreams · 19/12/2019 06:08

For those unsure of what path Thomas took at the end. I think he declined the return to work for a six figure sum and opted to go the official route as advised by his wife ‘to stop it happening to somebody else’. He would get huge compensation though for harassment, bullying, loss of earnings etc.

IME there are bullies in every work environment. It’s wrong. It’s criminal. Ever though there were some holes in the story I think the programme served a positive purpose in highlighting bullying and its effect on people. Totally uncomfortable yet compelling viewing.

VanGoghsDog · 19/12/2019 06:40

I think he took the money, and he was off on another of his hair rained schemes to become a millionaire with it.

Medievalist · 19/12/2019 09:27

I think as a pp said, he can't have taken the money as that was conditional on keeping it quiet. He's risking it getting into the media if he's involved the police.

But I'm sure there are lots of ways he could make money out of this - by selling his story to the papers, threatening his firm to pay up or he'll sell his story. Seeking compensation through the legal route etc.

I thought it was good. Obviously a drama and therefore not as realistic as some would like. I think it highlighted how easy it is for bullies to get away with it, how difficult it is for the victim to get help. And how difficult it is for victims to stay stop/walk away.

RockingAroundTheXMasTree · 19/12/2019 09:36

those two younger ones reminded me of people from the Apprentice
Yes!!! So un-likeable, calculated... Urgh!

ImontheTRAIN · 19/12/2019 10:37

Very strange programme, many parts of it seems so unrealistic. I cannot fathom it out at all, although I'm glad it reached the conclusion it did. Why he didn't start a log of events, go to HR, record evidence of the bullying in the first place is beyond me?

It was almost filmed in the style of a young adult programme, Grange Hill for example from waaaay back when I was young.

DH enjoyed it though and parts of it resonated with him from his own experiences of workplace bullying.

anotherweenamechange · 19/12/2019 12:39

Yessss @ImontheTRAIN it was filmed so oddly

anotherweenamechange · 19/12/2019 12:40

Or he didn’t take the money and that’s why he still needs to book about how to become a millionaire

Wingedharpy · 19/12/2019 16:16

My thoughts were, based on bugger all, :
He does go down the route of a tribunal (he'd already disclosed by reporting to police), but when he glances at the millionaire book, he realises that he can turn this negative into a positive.
With his compensation/out of court settlement, he can start up his own company advising and running workshops for other companies/organisations about bullying in the workplace, highlighting how insidious it can be.
With his background in sales and his vast experience of being on the receiving end, he'll make a huge success of it and maybe get a knighthood.!
The End.

I really enjoyed it.

WheresMyChocolate · 19/12/2019 17:37

I don't care whether he took the money or not. I'm just glad it didn't go down the dark path it looked like it was heading to. I thought it was going to end with suicide. Sad

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/12/2019 18:02

Blondes
What makes you think it was mainly racial?
I thought that was just another nasty insult to throw at him.
It was racist, and the one thing that was a criminal offence, but there was nothing to make me think the bullying was because she was racist.

VanGoghsDog · 19/12/2019 18:51

Oh, the bullying was racist, for sure. She made that clear, she was explaining how being racist is illegal but how she could bully him subtly and get away with it. Why would she say that if the whole thing wasn't racially driven?

Not that I agree you can call someone a fuckwit without the racist aspect at work and "they can't do anything" anyway.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2019 19:45

@IHaveBrilloHair it was the way she said it

Talked about his weight dandruff etx Didn’t mention the colour is his skin but hinted

And as @vandog said she spelt it out at the end

Rascial is wrong. And illegal as is disability

But what would the police do seriously

Rap on knuckles - court? Fine ? Prison sentence

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 19/12/2019 19:50

I really didn't get that from it at all.
I'm not saying she wasn't racist, I just didn't pick up on anything that made me think it was racially motivated.

thenightsky · 19/12/2019 19:57

I had to watch it to the end once I'd started. Cannot say I enjoyed it though. It made me feel very uncomfortable. I hope he took the money at the end. I don't think the police/CPS route would have got him much satisfaction in the end and would have dragged on years possibly.

cokehoke · 19/12/2019 23:09

Only started watching the last episode but it seems ridiculously far fetched.

outherealone · 20/12/2019 02:28

God she was fucking grim. Very well acted in terms of spite, definitely overdone for the telly but brilliant at saying cunty things whilst looking so sweet.
She was mainly really horrible on the Alan partridge show, she’s obviously found an acting niche!
The poor guy, I think he didn’t do a very good job ref documenting everything as he was in panic, fight or flight mode, when you’re in that state your cortexes often don’t allow space for rational thinking and methodical behaviour as you’re so consumed by reacting to danger.
I loved how kind his wife was to him at the end after they’d suggested that she would dump him for being weak and a failure.
Really made me cry as someone who is going through a very difficult time emotionally, feeling vulnerable and unsafe and finding it very hard to express myself and my needs articulately.

Djangor3725 · 20/12/2019 09:41

I watched first & last episode. Couldn't watch the middle one as the subject (bullying not racism) is too close & upsetting. Was relieved that Thomas was able to use the racist comments & although initially I found it irritating, the dramatic licences used to shorten the whole thing did end up making it easier for me to watch - I'm thinking of the convenient fact that he fainted so his humiliating presentation ended quickly & the fact that the main bully helpfully did a great speech listing what she had done so he could record it.
A lot of workplace bullying is done slowly over quite a long period of time & is hugely damaging to the bullied person's mental health which often leads to physical health problems too. The bullied person often ends up doing extra hours work to try & compensate for the regular undermining & the vital information that is withheld - this then can cause family problems. In small firms the only person you can complain too has often been present at some of the bullying occasions & just sees it as "banter".
I would hope that a few bosses who have ignored bullying claims may have watched this & might rethink their decisions, particularly if the main bully is still carrying on as before. In my experience most people who suffer workplace bullying are forced to just leave & try & make a restart. If you are in your 40s or 50s & have a hefty mortgage or rent bill that is not easy - particularly if you are in sales - there may be plenty of jobs about in some areas but usually you start off on a tiny retainer & are just dependent on commission so you have huge financial stress to deal with.

eenymeenyminyme · 20/12/2019 09:49

I was bullied at work a while ago, I got paid off to leave and keep quiet about it. Big multinational company which obviously I can't name.

I think there was a mixture of actual bullying and some of it was his perception as they wore him down so badly. The torso bit was so that when he told the boss it would sound ridiculous and unbelievable.
