Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special 2019

Sorry if there’s already a thread on this but I couldn’t find one.

Anyone else excited about this? I’m really looking forward to it, especially after seeing the trailer yesterday! There were no kids in the trailer though (unless I missed them) so not sure what’s happened to Neil the baby and Stacey’s bump! Apparently Uncle Bryn is hosting Christmas this year....

It's so weird reading this thread and seeing everyone talking about my town. I've lived in Barry all my life. I grew up on the Island and now I live just around the corner from Gwen/Bryn/Gavin and Stacey's houses. I honestly don't think anyone from the show sounds like they have a Barry accent.

I really enjoyed the Christmas special. It was lovely to revisit all the characters and to see how it turned out after reading about the filming in local papers and all over social media in the summer. That ending! I'd love to see them do more episodes in the future.

@Blondeshavemorefun This always gets me too! The timings are crazy and Nessas pregnancy timings are implausible too.

Love the programme though - it’s the TV equivalent of a hot bubble bath and a glass of wine

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/01/2020 21:41

Well g&s got married in April. Dad bDay. Nessa was a month preg or so then

So due Nov

Had a month early in oct

Xmas special baby Neil was few /2 months old

So tunings kinda work

ILoveYou3000 · 01/01/2020 21:45

Nessa conceived the baby 8 weeks before the wedding, so would have been due September. She said his birthday in August, he was a month early so timings are spot on.

ILoveYou3000 · 01/01/2020 21:48

Sorry, she would have been due October, so yep they're slightly out by maybe 3/4 weeks.

She would have been around 10 weeks pregnant at the wedding.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/01/2020 22:07

They got engaged in a week and married 8w later In April

Nessa got preg in pams back garden bout month before Wedding so March

StraightenUpAndFryRight · 01/01/2020 22:16

I love that Joanna Page described herself as Stacey when auditioning, then after G&S has done the same thing as Stacey and had 3 children Smile

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 02/01/2020 02:12

Yeah but that baby actor they had for Neil
Don’t G&S have a 21 night honeymoon though? When they get back and Nessa tells Smithy she also says her scan is in “a few weeks” Wouldn’t she be 16/17 weeks at the first scan?

And the baby looks older than 3/4 months in the first crimbo spesh!

Love that we’re debating this, I’ve found my people - might watch em again on iPlayer this week. Tidy.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 02/01/2020 02:12

Oops ignore the first line - bloody iPhone

MyOtherProfile · 02/01/2020 06:34

It does fit, doesn't it? Oref in March wedding in April, G and S (if the 21 day honeymoon is right) back probably May and scan could be a few weeks later in June at 12 weeks. That would be normal - have I got that right?

MyOtherProfile · 02/01/2020 06:35

Oh I don't know!

Bluewavescrashing · 02/01/2020 07:27

Baby actors are normally older than the baby characters they play as I think there are rules about not using tiny babies on set.

Neil the baby did a cracking job. Loves it.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 02/01/2020 08:03

He really did! He aced it!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 02/01/2020 08:05

Has anyone noticed the picture in Pam and Micks when they open their front door - it’s a mosaic type thing with a big red dragon on it, obviously left over from the actual owners.

It must be so weird seeing things from your own house on TV.

WiltedPlant · 02/01/2020 10:38

I'd have to re-watch, but I'm pretty sure that the clock in Pam and Mick's house was about 7 o'clock at one point. Now, I know they were delayed leaving because of the waccy-baccy, but that was the time they had planned to arrive in Barry.

(I'm guessing they filmed the scenes during the early evening in summer/autumn to get the dusk effect of it being 3-4pm in December.)

I doubt very much anything off the owners is used. A relative's house has been used for filming a few times and they remove everything, something to do with insurance I presumed. The detail that goes into set design is incredible.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/01/2020 15:38

**of

ChessieFL · 02/01/2020 16:54

MrsPelligrino that may usually be the case but I read an interview with the lady who owns Gwen’s house and she said that when they first started filming they had a really low budget so just used all her stuff! So all the sofas etc you see belonged to her - think they just put up a few different pictures here and there. I therefore wouldn’t be surprised if the red dragon picture does belong to the actual owners (especially as Mick and Pam would be unlikely to have such a picture in their Essex home - suppose it could have been a gift from Gwen!)

Underneaththetree · 02/01/2020 17:38

Yes I’ve read that in the series Gwen’s house is exactly as it normally is for the owner, all the furniture and decor and bits and bobs.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/01/2020 18:36

Oh that's really funny Grin

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 02/01/2020 18:59

Other random things I’ve noticed - James Cordens real life sister is the fast food worker that shouts for Rudy to come to the window when Smithy goes missing on the night Nessa tells him she’s preggo.

The woman who performs Nessas scan is the same one who delivers Neil the baby.

James Corden provides the voice of “PC Lovelength” on Stacy’s hen do.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/01/2020 20:20

Where is the Essex house in RL?

Underneaththetree · 02/01/2020 20:26

The Essex house is actually in Wales I believe?

ChessieFL · 02/01/2020 20:29

Yes, it’s in Dinas Powys
