Sorry if there’s already a thread on this but I couldn’t find one.

Anyone else excited about this? I’m really looking forward to it, especially after seeing the trailer yesterday! There were no kids in the trailer though (unless I missed them) so not sure what’s happened to Neil the baby and Stacey’s bump! Apparently Uncle Bryn is hosting Christmas this year....

Bear with me on the Bryn thing though - I understand he's Stacey's father's brother etc. and (probably) gay but may not even realise it.

But... the scene with him and Stacey in the car on the way to the wedding at the end of Series 1. He reads a letter to Stacey written to her by her father. That really made me wonder whether there's more to it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/12/2019 21:49

Yes,her dad gave him a letter to give to Stacey on her wedding day. What more do you think there is?

The80sweregreat · 29/12/2019 22:05

I assume too that uncle Bryn is gay. He can't admit it to himself or anyone else. His just a bit of an oddball but kind but also a bit mixed up at times. His interesting , so I like him.
His more complex than Gavin is ( for example) !

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/12/2019 22:08

Also Bryn coming out of the sea like Daniel Craig was also a reference to him being gay as DC was referred to as James Bond for gay men.

FlamingoAndJohn · 29/12/2019 22:12

Do we know how Stacey’s dad died?
If it was an illness then he would have had time to write a letter for her on her wedding day.

I always found it curious how her dad could be such an arse but Bryn is so lovely.

I've just finally had chance to watch this on catch up, I absolutely loved all of it! Nessa still is and always will be my super favourite and Gavin always has been and probably always will be my least favourite!

Shenanagins · 29/12/2019 22:36

Thought it was fantastic, just slipped right back into it as though the past ten years had never happened! Definitely want more!

maxbabi · 29/12/2019 22:38

I never watched the first 3 series but now Binge watching! Half way through series 2. So good. Gabin and Stacey the most dull. Love nessa and the mum of gavin

MyOtherProfile · 29/12/2019 22:44

Loving how many people are getting into G and S for the first time now! Makes me want to watch it all again from the beginning!

Doubleraspberry · 29/12/2019 22:47

Mick had told Pam not to take her own towels so that was her way around it! I was pretty sure she’d just wrapped a ribbon round two of her own towels and called them new - did she say they were new when she was packing as I missed that?

thenightsky · 29/12/2019 23:02

I thought they were a new bale of towels bought by Pam.

FlamingoAndJohn · 29/12/2019 23:02

I just watched the packing scene again because of this thread. She doesn’t say they are new but they clearly have a ribbon around them and a tag on.

Oh yes, me too.

Doubleraspberry · 29/12/2019 23:04

Admirable research, Flamingo.

I have watched all of Gavin and Stacey more than is remotely reasonable. It’s been my comfort watch for the last decade.

circleorsquare · 30/12/2019 07:20

Definitely new towels! They had a label on them and the same coloured chord keeping them together!

Hadn't realised that Neil the Baby was played by one of the babies who played Neil the Baby 10 years ago! I think that's great, he was very good.

I really enjoyed it, I think you need to have watched it before to get all the little jokes. I think it was a bit rushed at times and actually a 75 minute special would have been even better or a 2 parter instead! I just want to watch more

diddl · 30/12/2019 07:42

I thought that Stacey's dad just assumed that Bryn would be the one to give Stacey away & that's why Bryn had the letter.

I don't think that the fishing trip bears too much scrutiny though-they are uncle & nephew!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2019 08:53

That's exactly why it bears scrutinyGrin

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/12/2019 09:09

I can’t beleive I missed this so many years ago

I’ve been on mn for maybe 14/15yrs so how did I miss the tv threads of g&s

As always on tv

But enjoying watching from beginning

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/12/2019 09:09

And how did staceys dad die ? Is it mentioned in the previous series’s

diddl · 30/12/2019 09:11

I tried watching it when it first came out but couldn't get on with it at all.

Currently watching it all again!Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2019 09:43

I think he died of cancer but I might've made that up.

Movinghouseatlast · 30/12/2019 10:12

I always wonder what Gwen and Bryn do for a living. I don't think I've ever heard them mention work.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 30/12/2019 10:49

Watch them on iPlayer not gold - they cut out loads on gold

TheSquitz · 30/12/2019 10:55

I love the episodes where you see Smithy's family. Pam Ferris is hilarious as his narcoleptic/alcoholic mum!

Mrsjayy · 30/12/2019 11:12

I love Rudy when she and Smithy fight like teenagers it is hilarious 😀 I think Sheridan and James were together for a few years when Rudy appeared.
