Anyone watching?

OP posts:
Moanranger · 30/10/2019 16:46

I have just found out that a school mate of mine has died, far too young. The last time I saw her, she was walking with a stick & very overweight. Now she is gone, I don’t know all the details, but I am sure obesity was a factor. Really bringing it home to me, how important to keep on top of your weight.
The genetics were really interesting, and could be very helpful in enlightening those to their own propensities & managing them better. I am sure I have some obese genes, as I know I cannot eat as much as other people without gaining & that I also have a raging appetite. I never “forget to eat”!
Victoria had a useful function in demonstrating what complete BS her body positivity movement was. Love yourself, but there is no shame or self hate in seeking to improve yourself.

Jinglejanglefish · 30/10/2019 16:59

Victoria is really vile. She has got body positivity all wrong and is plain nasty. How can she claim to be for self love and be so horrible to other people. Jeez.

St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen · 30/10/2019 17:05

My Mum and I watched the, "I live in a more privileged body than you segment", then looked at each other with open mouths. It struck me as incredible stealth viciousness and clearly upset Sarah (with good reason). (As an aside, that gorgeous little baby and the sweet way the rest of the house interacted with her was lovely!)

Elodie2019 · 30/10/2019 17:07

The reason Victoria is unpleasant and unattractive to watch has nothing to do with the way she looks.

She is pushy, judgemental, rude, defensive and a bit of a bully if I'm honest.

THIS is what makes her 'unattractive'. She has spent so much time ramming her opinions down people's throats in both episodes. Poor Babs flinches whenever she has to listen to her.

IMHO Victoria needs to work on her personality.

AuntieMarys · 30/10/2019 17:36

gilead spot on. Just watching it now

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 30/10/2019 17:39

I couldn't watch beyond the first one because of Victoria. I'm amazed no one slapped her. I would have.

AuntieMarys · 30/10/2019 18:10

I can't believe how rude she is.

Fifthtimelucky · 30/10/2019 18:24

Agree with all the comments about Victoria, who was simply awful, and peddling a very dangerous line. I hope Courtney has not been convinced by her. To be her size at only 25 is very worrying and I would hate to think that she will have been encouraged by Victoria to think that she is fine as she is. She really isn't.

I liked Babs, and hopes that she now gets some help.

I was a bit upset by one of the two visitors at the end of last night's episode - the one who was advocating more bariatic (?) surgery for children. Seeing overweight children really upsets me and, for the vast majority, exercise and a sensible diet should be sufficient.

MadamBatty · 30/10/2019 18:35

Victoria is just annoying two kids. She was given far too much airtime in the programme. The identify as healthy is so silly

I identify as a 25 year old beautiful millionaire. Doesn’t make it true though.

MadamBatty · 30/10/2019 18:37

Where have we heard before...self idea does not change physiological reality

MadamBatty · 30/10/2019 18:37

Self ID

Mellowsedge · 30/10/2019 18:49

When I was in Ukraine last year I rarely saw a fatty. 1 in a 100. Same in Poland and Latvia. All the girls are skinny. I spoke to my foreign friends from France and Italy and it's well known that British girls are fat. Not as bad as the US

DishingOutDone · 30/10/2019 18:53

What a really insightful contribution to this discussion @Mellowsedge Hmm

Mellowsedge · 30/10/2019 19:00

@53DishingOutDone... Well, why us not them?

SisterFarAway · 30/10/2019 19:18

Just catching up on part 2 and am about 15 minutes in, and Victoria is one nasty piece of work. I think Babs has a good measure of her.

StillWeRise · 30/10/2019 20:18

i thought it was very telling when the 2 politicians were there, and the one from the House of Lords told Victoria she had not always been a healthy weight. Anyone with any genuine interest in people and weight would have said oh really, tell me more, but she didn't. Then when she explained she had had cancer and did not want to continue to be at higher risk for cancer, there was no sympathy or concern, nothing.

Preparingfor · 30/10/2019 21:15

Victoria dominated the programme which is such a shame, she completely ruined it and I wish they'd all told her to chuff the feck off.

foxessocks · 30/10/2019 21:15

I thought that too still it was the equivalent of sticking her fingers in her ears and going la la la. She didn't want to know about how someone had successfully lost weight and for health reasons. She knows full well being overweight can cause health implications but doesn't want to know, fine, but don't ram that down other people's throat who do want to make changes to their lifestyle.

Italiangreyhound · 30/10/2019 21:58

Fozzleyplum "I was particularly incensed when she told Courtney that Babs had described Courtney's body as "disgusting". Babs had said nothing of the sort; she had said she did not think fat was beautiful, which is very different."

Totally agree! Shocking.

For me the worst bit was when Victoria said she hoped the comedian guy didn't go on a diet! Totally selfish.

She's attempting to make a career from denying reality and encouraging obese people to ignore serious health risks! Angry

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 30/10/2019 22:10

Painful to watch. I know its heavily edited, but why was victoria getting more air time?

CaveMum · 30/10/2019 22:21

@MadamBatty, exactly. The parallels between Victoria’s attitude/tactics and those used by proponents of other forms of self ID are striking:

The denial of scientific/biological fact
The twisting of language
The gaslighting and DARVO

Dramaofallama · 30/10/2019 22:28

She's attempting to make a career from denying reality and encouraging obese people to ignore serious health risks!

I agree. I was really happy at the end of last night's show when Bab's told her "I know you see me as a KERCHING, KERCHING"
I am happy Bab's saw through her.

EmeraldShamrock · 30/10/2019 22:30

I have watched episode 2. I love Bab's. I am finding it difficult to watch, their struggle is really sad I feel so much empathy for them, especially the sensible side. The side without Victoria

ChippingInLovesAutumnLeaves · 30/10/2019 22:35

Of course you do, that’s exactly the attitude that needs to be called out. Poor woman could have died in a car accident, but im sure you’ll find a way to blame her weight.🙄🙄

@SLB37. You came across really well. Very balanced. Your daughter is absolutely gorgeous and she will be proud of her lovely mummy🌷

EmeraldShamrock · 30/10/2019 22:45

@SLB37 I didn't want retag you but as a pp done it first. Grin
I have to mention your baby, she is is so amazing, alert, calm, beautiful. Smile
