Absolutely no point in a “modernised” monarchy. It’s only any good for diamonds and gold coaches and posh frocks. Boot out the kit of them, I say!

BertrandRussell · 22/10/2019 22:08

*lot, not kit.

Peaseblossom22 · 22/10/2019 22:20

The thing is they are not the monarchy, whatever the US wants to think . William and Kate are the monarchy because he will be the monarch . The establishment will always support the Queen, POW , William and ultimately George. For all I feel for them , and I do think they are struggling , The Sussex’s are also rans .

Blingandrings · 22/10/2019 22:53

That’s the problem though. Harry is sitting home without a proper job. Too much time in his hands, no real function. It’s a perpetual problem for the ‘spare’. I’m sure M feels bored to tears now the gloss has worn off. She can’t earn her own money and she can’t go out without being photographed and commented on. It all could have been foreseen long ago! She has nothing in common with her in laws and is realising that her power to change the world is not what she imagined . It’s not going to end well.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 22/10/2019 22:57

I’m inclined to agree with Bert. A modernised monarchy is a republic.

I can see a much reduced monarchy clinging on, but I doubt it will have room for Harry & Meghan.

And yes, it’s all a marvellous distraction from uncle Andy.

Notmyrealname855 · 22/10/2019 23:01

Agree with all of the above!

MissEliza · 22/10/2019 23:19

I think it must actually be quite suffocating for someone like Meghan who was clearly a self sufficient and independent woman before meeting Harry. Then again Sophie Wessex gave up her career and independence for Edward. Obviously she had some bumps along the way. Perhaps because she's British or she was with Edward for longer she understood the 'firm' always had to come first. Who knows?

Rhubarbisevil · 23/10/2019 00:39

I think the Sussexes should become like the Wessexes. Meghan should become the main personality (breadwinner IYSWIM) and Harry should stay home out of the spotlight and bring up the kids. He should be wheeled out for major events (so we go HARRY we love you, yayyy) and then disappear again. Edward deals with patronages that do not need the extra promotion ie DoE. Harry should take on an existing cause to champion behind the scenes.

I once read that Harry always puts a front on for the cameras and people. Clearly that front has gone. Meghan has proved that she is professional enough to turn up, smile, wave, put on a great show and be the star turn. I think she is a trooper and if Sophie can survive the Sheikstorm and topless photos then Meghan will survive too. But only as long as Harry stays home.

OatyGoaty · 23/10/2019 08:53

They feed off each other’s insecurities and feelings of persecution.

I think this is well observed.

BertrandRussell · 23/10/2019 08:58

Well, only if you think that Harry’s past isn’t enough to make him insecure and Meghan hasn’t been treated like shit by the British press and public........

BertrandRussell · 23/10/2019 09:11

as, for example...

Rhubarbisevil · 23/10/2019 09:32

I hope you don’t follow that woman on Twitter beetrand. She is a deeply unpleasant person.

BertrandRussell · 23/10/2019 09:47

Yes. She is a deeply unpleasant person. But there are very many like her and very many much worse. Which is why it is utterly ridiculous to say that the treatment Meghan gets is no worse than any other member of the RF.

Peaseblossom22 · 23/10/2019 09:48

That’s a disgusting thread on Twitter , can’t believe such vile people exist. It reminds me of nasty teenage girls bullying people at school. One of the problems of social media is that it gives these people a way of continuing their behaviour once they are ‘adults’

Blingandrings · 23/10/2019 10:54

Honest to God those people are absolute scum. They’re the sort of people who vote for Trump.

justasking111 · 23/10/2019 14:32

Wow what a nasty twitter thread. Surprised Piers is still banging on with the DM court case in the offing. He is heading for a fall. Saw Katie Hopkins she does not look well was shocked to see her must be a couple of years since I saw her face.

Interesting last few paragraphs re: CNN interview two days after this programme. It's looking like their seeing themselves as modernising the RF.
This is not going to go well 😖

Strawberrycreamsundae · 23/10/2019 14:39

*they're not their fhs!

Blingandrings · 23/10/2019 16:05

Harry seemed quite taken aback when Tom B asked him if they saw themselves as shaking up the RF or being trailblazers. I can't remember the exact expression. He seemed quite adamant this is not their intention. So all this stuff about modernising is media invention I would say. If this was their intention it is quite arrogant. W and K are the ones who should be deciding on that.

CallmeAngelina · 23/10/2019 19:31

I would bet my last dollar that whoever this source is who has leaked this story, they're American. They clearly have no idea how the British Royal Family operates, if they seriously believe that H&M have single-handedly modernised it. Regardless of how they have behaved recently, I very much doubt if this comes from the Sussexes themselves.

justasking111 · 23/10/2019 20:05

Who are these royal sources or are the press inventing them?

CallmeAngelina · 23/10/2019 20:27

I thought Harry would have had enough sense (or advice) to come to an agreement/truce with the press. William did, after all.
He's shot himself in the foot good and proper now, and they will not let up on him now. Big mistake - along with Meghan's, in pissing off Piers Morgan. Yes, he's an odious twat, we all know that, but she should have kept him on-side. He's a dangerous enemy who has done her a lot of harm already.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/10/2019 20:30

Yes, it would be helpful to know what "a source close to the Sussexes" actually means. Are we talking courtier, employee, gobby friend?

Mary1935 · 23/10/2019 20:39

Where’s Megan’s mother - is she not around?
They haven’t stood a chance really. Her family are clearly dysfunctional.
Manipulating -
Harry’s been triggered by the birth of his son.
He needs some good professional therapy.
They are human after all - I feel for them.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/10/2019 20:40

I don't think for a minute that either H or M would have said this.

What's worrying though is that someone within their circle has such a fundamental misunderstanding of their status within the RF.

I agree it sounds like an American, and if Harry isn't furious about the appalling disrespect it demonstrates for his grandmother the Queen he should be.

But it's another battle they don't need to be fighting.
