I really enjoyed this first ep. Especially Taki stabbing a boy in the thigh for putting his hand up her skirt, and the comment from her granddad that he was lucky to keep his cock.

I will be watching again, I think it's great, sort of Japanese/British Noir.

I remember Will Sharpe in Casualty (don’t judge) a while back. He’s (deservedly) gone onto much better things.

Best tv show of last year by miles. Thoroughly class.

Wow. Just finished watching this one episode per night and now feeling bereft.

I don't know whether to hope for a second series or be content to stop here as it was so excellent.

I'll definitely be investigating Defending the Guilty and Flowers - thanks for the heads-up.

Via Japanese colleague, Giri/Haji is available in Japan via Netflix apparently. Will report back with colleague's opinion if they watch it.

We loved it, the roof top scene was bizarre and yet so so right! Really moving, who would have thought contemporary dance would do that?!

Contemporary dance is really moving when it's good! And this was such a good series. By that point, too, we knew all the characters very well and were invested in them, so it was easier to 'read' and access the emotions of the scene, I think.

The more I think about this series the better I think it was! I'd love to be able to watch it again for the first time; it was such a wonderful surprise and treat.

Just read there isn’t going to be a Season 2.

Can’t believe it! After the BAFTA nominations too. Sooooo disappointed!

DowntonCabbie · 11/09/2020 23:58

No!! But in some ways best to leave it as it is rather than a weaker second series.

That is really disappointing. I really enjoyed the cultural crossovers without the usual piss taking and stereotypes. Rodney was definitely my favourite character!

In some ways it's a shame but realistically it tied up quite nicely at the end I feel. I'd sooner have that rather than a second series which doesn't quite live up to the first.

It was one of the best things I'd seen in a very long time. DH and I were addicted. We're very seriously considering re-watching it.
