Starts tomorrow

When a young, talented ballerina is found dead on an ancient stone altar, her death drags up another tragedy that befell this community years before - when three children disappeared into the local woods and only one returned

Is Cassie Jamie ? She got very angry about the name.

It is looking good so far .

StealthPolarBear · 14/10/2019 22:12

I loved the book. Love all her books but this one was the best. Her style of writing really draws me in.
Not sure if I want to watch this or not!

Sotiredofthislife · 14/10/2019 22:16

Jamie being one of the missing children? They were an odd policing couple. My first thought was brother and sister.

Howlongtillbedtime · 14/10/2019 22:22

Yes she seemed so pissed off about the name . And the policeman had changed his name after surviving so I wondered if she was the girl from the 80s .
I dont think they are brother and sister .
But who knows ! So far so good , I like being kept guessing.

StealthPolarBear · 14/10/2019 22:24

The butler did it in the end in the book

peppinanna · 14/10/2019 22:41

How many episodes are there in this series?

Clawdy · 14/10/2019 23:02

I thought the children who disappeared were boys? How could Cassie be one of them?

AnOojamaflip · 14/10/2019 23:43

No one boy and one girl missing in 85. One one found Adam aka Robert.

I spotted a green bus, which weren't around in 2006

AnOojamaflip · 14/10/2019 23:44

One one is supposed to be One boy. Which makes more sense!

100PercentThatBitch · 15/10/2019 02:30

Fuck me Varys is different !

lionsonplanes · 15/10/2019 07:36

Did Rob dislocate his arm when he fell out of bed? Did he get in the shower to try to pop it back in?

I don't think Cassie is Jamie because I do not think the other children were ever found. I suppose it could be her if Jamie was trying to escape for some reason.

I realize that Rob might want to go back to where his family are living, but it seems strange that he went away to England and changed his name to get away from what happened but has now returned.

implantsandaDyson · 15/10/2019 09:51

I thought Cassie was maybe a sister of Jamie's? If they all grew up together, it could explain the closeness between her and Adam/Rob. The way he pulled over a stool and held her jeans as she leaned over to see the initial victim (in the garage), it's something older kids to do brothers and sisters of their friends and the way she reminded him to bring flowers to his mum, the way he teased her about her red and brown sauce combo.

longwayoff · 15/10/2019 16:56

I found it very S L O W and also badly lit. This dodgy lighting is currently fashionable and I'm fed up with squinting my way through tv shows. It was fair enough for Wolf Hall, Tudor times, but not for everything they make.

The80sweregreat · 15/10/2019 18:26

It was slow and confusing.

Rollergirl11 · 15/10/2019 18:31

Quite a few questions already: who are the two men that met up? The tramp guy calls the other one Carl and then he says you, me and Janet. But the names of the 3 kids in the 80’s were Peter, Jermaine (Jamie) and Adam (now called Robert). So who are these two?
Who is the man that broke in to Cassie’s flat and was watching her when she was in court?
What is the significance of the older sister (Rosamund?) not wearing a bra and why are they all wearing strange clothes? Is the Dad abusing the daughters? That’s the vibe I was getting.

Rollergirl11 · 15/10/2019 18:50

lionsonplanes: that was horrible they bit with Rob in the shower! I thought that he was suffering from sleep paralysis and got in the shower to “thaw” himself out. Could be wrong though.

purpleme12 · 15/10/2019 18:54

Well regarding the strange clothes I thought the family might be Amish. That's what it reminded me of anyway

AnOojamaflip · 15/10/2019 19:08

We don't know the name of the troubled guy with the paint (least I don't think). He called the horrible ponytail man Cathal, then mentioned a Janet. For some reason I took them to be brothers!!

They're similar age to Rob and Cassie, so involved in whatever happened in 85 in Knocnaree is my assumption.

Dunno who Tom Vaughan-Lawlor is. Something separate to the murder. Possibly the undercover work and the man not seeing his children?

The not wearing a bra thing I took to be her avoiding being a woman. Clothes and hair made me think of overtly religious groups/cult. Got the abuse vibe too. She was in with the younger girls bed protecting her from the dad I felt. The mum is no help, she's completely doped for some reason.

AnOojamaflip · 15/10/2019 19:11

Rob in the shower - it seemed like a spasm to me. Can't make a stab in the dark why he was having a spasm that severe (allergic to wolves?!)

R00tat00tt00t · 15/10/2019 19:31

I really enjoyed it. I know it was quite slow compared to some shows but I think the pace was right to set the scene. I'd guessed that the young male detective was Adam, the boy who got away, about 10 minutes in so I'm a bit worried that it might all end up a bit cliched and easy to work out but think it's setting itself up to be complex enough for a good story. I think Cassie was probably friends with "Jamie". I think the other two men might be the two boys who went missing as the bodies were never found. Maybe they were captured, held hostage and abused and it's affected them both in very different ways i.e. one hardened and bitter, the other broken and lost? I agree that it looks like the dead girls Dad is abusing his daughters but think it might be the older one and she's using the younger sister as a shield. Could be wrong though? Haven't worked out the significance of the other case and man breaking into Cassie's flat.
Love reading these threads for everyone's opinions and then seeing if anyone guessed right.

R00tat00tt00t · 15/10/2019 19:35

Ooh also forgot. I think Adam/Robert might have some kind of health condition that causes the spasms? In the flashbacks he couldn't keep up with the other kids as he couldn't run fast enough/seemed more awkward when running? Not sure if he would have been allowed into police force with a significant health issue though? Probably overthinking this...
Looking forward to tonight's episode.

AnOojamaflip · 15/10/2019 19:37

It's a boy and girl who were missing. Otherwise they might have been them - think they are guilty of something. It's made one have a breakdown and the other might be sociopathic

Rollergirl11 · 15/10/2019 19:41

But it was only one other boy (Peter) and girl (Jamie) that went missing. The other boy was Adam who we know is Rob.

Ahh see I thought he was abusing one or both of the twins and so the older sister was bringing the younger one in to her bed to try and prevent it. The Dad went to the twins room first and then checked the older sisters room when she wasn’t there.

R00tat00tt00t · 15/10/2019 19:42

I thought that 4 kids went into the woods and only 1 came out leaving 2 boys and 1 girl missing?

Clawdy · 15/10/2019 19:46

Hope there isn't a "father abusing" storyline, that is such a cliché in tv drama now.
