The Circle is back on tonight (Channel 4, 9:15) and I am soooooo excited

I don't really know how to explain it, but Alex was last year's winner, but he was pretending to be Kate. We knew quite a lot about Kate - what she did, her job, political views, etc. i.e. she wasn't just a photo on a profile.
I just feel that we know nothing about Sammie, except she has a son. There's no back story or personality from her.
Vice versa with Katie/Jay - we know nothing at all about Katie, all her time is spent purely trying to be Jay.
Maybe a lot of that is in the editing, I don't know. Maybe it's simply that Alex/Kate last year had such a good/deep personality. He was in turmoil at times, visibly upset at lying to others etc. I can't really see James or Katie being deep about anything at the moment.

Yes Alex/Kate was likeable in a way that James isn't - Alex felt like an experiment whereas Sammie/James feels like exploitation

And Jays Mum is just odd

The difference is Alex based Kate on his actual girlfriend and James has nothing to base Sammie on other than the single mum hook

100PercentThatBitch I don't think he used much of his girlfriend's real-life info, though - he was sort of being himself behind a mask, iyswim, but used his girlfriend's photos.
Jay's mum really is odd. I cannot get any kind of personality from her at all. It's as if she is/wishes she was Jay. Her portrayal of him is really offensive - I wonder how real-life Jay is taking it.

I wonder if James is holding back with Sammie because if he pushes the emotional side too far there could be a backlash. For example if he made Sammie 'open up' about her baby, her maternal feelings, tugged on the heartstrings of the others and sought support (as real Sammie might) he would look so callous and manipulative. There are real limitations to his choice of character, maybe he's just realising how restrictive it is.

I don't think his monotone voice helps either!

Totally agree with the comments regarding the upset Sammie will potentially cause. People have really empathised with her as a single mother. I can't warm to James. The way it's edited makes him come across as serious and manipulative (I don't like how he always barks his orders at the Circle either haha) whereas Alex from last year was more of a likeable 'I can't believe I'm actually getting away with this' attitude. It is making for interesting watching though. I would love for Jays mum and James to meet as they have both been cat-fishing each other 😂.

I do think it is going to be funny when James realises that Jay isn't real, he has really fallen for the son of a single mother bit, and empathised with him.

I agree I think it's hard to describe what Alex did differently to this years catfishes even last years as he was the only one that lasted. But I think it was that he put his real personality into Kate so she seemed like a person this years are just flat there is nothing behind them.

Yes the when he was himself he was likeable felt guilty a lot reacted like a person. James/sammi comes across as too into the game and jay/Kate is odd it's like she thinks people are actually disliking her son and doesn't realise it isn't him it's her iyswim.

I hope jay goes next i think finding out he is a catfish will really stir it up a bit and make people think. Also I worry if not Tim is going to end up in hot water soon with his sleuthing.

Yes that's right I remember now Alex gave his own personality with Kate's looks as he thought that was a winning combination... and it was!

Sammie and jay there is nothing behind them too focused on cat fishing so true!!

For the record, I instantly suspected Woody was Zoe Balls son due to the name (very unusual at that time), plus the Brighton connection.

I think there was more variety in people last year. This year, they’re all in their twenties apart from Woody (only slightly younger), and Tim. The mum is also pretending to be a similar age. Last year, Freddy was a character. Alex/kate was interesting. This year they all seem a bit similar.

Yes, really Alex was Alex (with a different picture). It was funny when he was thrown by the eyebrows comment though and the general girly things (makeup etc) that he was supposed to know about! I loved Alex!

First impressions the new pair look to be more of the same - social media savvy attractive 20 somethings - I'm hoping I'm wrong and there's something a bit different about them. I'd love to see some more older folk

I agree. It needs more variety.

I thought the new feminine looking person was trans but may be wrong, may be just another slim hipped skinny young woman. The women seem so vacuous in this. The 2 black women seem interchangeable glamour models. Where are the fat ugly women? This year diversity seems to just change involve skin colour. I like Tim because he is interesting. The rest seem interchangeable young empty heads although anyone with a real job wouldn't be able to do this so maybe that's not surprising. A self employed builder definitely wouldn't be doing this

I had no idea what snatching your eyebrows was. Snatch was a euphemism for vagina when I was a teenager

I was wrong, she is a woman. If she dislikes being judged as being superficial I don't get why she doesn't change her image and wear less slap

Totally agree @2Rebecca and @BertBox - I'm so glad that Beth is sooo attractive that she's had to demean herself by posting a picture of another woman. Pah.

Oh wow new Beth is very up herself isn't she. I feel for the girl whose pics she's taken. She'd do well to remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Agree. Only seen first episode and half of yesterday so far. They all seem far more stupid and narcissistic than last year. Maybe it's dragging it out over 3 weeks. Only the young unemployed and unemployable apply. I don't see why being a catfish matters. The aim is to win the money yourself. The genuineness of your house mates is irrelevant
