I have really warmed to James a lot in the last 2 episodes - he was so funny when he was literally crying laughing when he received the huge bouquet.

Time has gone down slightly in my views by saying he loves Thatcher... In my area of the country - similar to what James said - hundreds of working class people lost their jobs due to her policies, shipyards and pits closing etc. There were riots and I remember it being a dreadful time.

I also find it very very refreshing that when the younger ones are having a chat, and one of them is really crude, they all look shocked or groan etc. Online, teens and 20-somethings are portrayed (in general) as being vacuous/vulgar/promiscuous/rude/unkind etc etc etc, so it's great seeing a wide cross-section, and none of them are really behaving that way.

Rollergirl11 · 10/10/2019 17:12

I also think it says more about the girl playing Josh that she was surprised about white people liking grime. And she’s used a lazy stereotype herself with the whole “middle class white boy” cooking lentils and cous cous and going snowboarding! .

I think she’s in danger of making Josh seem dull. Not really sure what point she’s going to prove if I’m honest.

Babybel90 · 10/10/2019 17:28

@SpanishFly the absolute genius of this show for me, and the reason it’s the only reality tv show I watch, is that you get to see how people really react to what’s being said when no one can see them.

SpanishFly · 10/10/2019 17:35

yep, I agree - the psychology etc of it all is genuinely interesting.

It's not a race thing. - I disagree completely. It IS a race thing when she's cliche stereotyping a middle class white male, and refers to those characteristics constantly. I agree with the PP who was wondering how it would be perceived the other way round. And I suspect a middle class white male pretending to be a working class black female would be seen as being incredibly insulting and patronising - i.e. it's way more than just being a catfish. Similarly a straight person camping it up would be horrible.
I am aware she isn't doing it to be mean or offensive, tho

KatyCarrCan · 10/10/2019 17:55

I am aware she isn't doing it to be mean or offensive
Hmm, I think she knows she's being offensive. Both to the type of person she's pretending to be. And to the people in The Circle that she thinks would welcome that kind of person more than they would welcome her.
Obviously she's right that white men are privileged compared to young black women. I'm just not sure The Circle is the place to try to illustrate that or to redress it. She was acting like a tosser from Blind Date. I'm pretty sure if she'd just been herself, she'd have had a warmer welcome.

feedingfrenzyatfive · 10/10/2019 19:07

I'm not comfortable about the new woman being inversely snobby either. It does seem like a race issue to me because as PPs have already said you couldn't reverse the situation.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 10/10/2019 19:30

I agree @KatyCarrCan

Babybel90 · 10/10/2019 19:56

@InvisibleWomenMustBeRead I don’t think reversing it is quite the same though because there’s no history of white, middle class men being oppressed by young black women. I can sort of see the point she’s trying to make but it might have worked better if she’d picked someone who looked less like a male model, as people generally warm to more attractive people anyway, and if she’d actually done any kind of research on middle class, white men. If she’d really wanted to make a valid point she could’ve gone in there as herself but with a white woman’s picture to see how people reacted to her, similarly Paddy could’ve kept his disability hidden to see how people react to him when they don’t know he’s disabled.

MyNewBearTotoro · 10/10/2019 21:12

Just seen the latest sneak peak video from The Circle app and it looks like after the influencers each save their person the others all have to make an emotional plea to stay before the influencers finally block. Seems particularly hard on Tim and Ella.

100PercentThatBitch · 10/10/2019 22:43

I do wonder HOW Ella kind of got to be The Circle's Regina George

itswinetime · 10/10/2019 22:46

I don't get the thought process behind saving someone you think is fake over someone who is genuine....but in fairness I do think we had seen all we were going to see from Brooke!

Have her and Georgina even spoken to Tim this week?

100PercentThatBitch · 10/10/2019 22:49

Blimey that was quality detective work!

Rollergirl11 · 10/10/2019 22:50

Ooooh that was super sleuthing from Joyce!!! 🧐

Loveislandaddict · 10/10/2019 22:59

Missed the sleuthing as my food delivery came. What did ‘she’ detect?

100PercentThatBitch · 10/10/2019 23:03

I'm glad they kept Joyce in now

Beth noticed deep nail marks that looked like false nails in the icing of the cake 😂

itswinetime · 10/10/2019 23:08

I guess Joyce now now the signs of a bad catfish! I think all the people from the 'date chat' figured josh out too she's to careless about what she says

Rollergirl11 · 10/10/2019 23:09

Busayo not nearly as clever as she thinks she is, innit!

DonttouchthatLarry · 10/10/2019 23:12

I'm warming to 'Joyce' - they're showing a bit more personality now.

Loveislandaddict · 10/10/2019 23:14

Thank you 100.

PippaPug · 10/10/2019 23:29

Joyce has a bit more spark to her now! I wonder if she is going to tell anyone else what they think of Josh being a catfish, to help get the pressure of her?

LittleAndOften · 10/10/2019 23:44

That was a good episode. I think Ella is doing so well because she expresses her personality, interests and preferences so well in her chats. She is really good about finding things in common with others and using it to spark a connection. Some of the others just speak in bland platitudes so don't come off as well-rounded, believable human beings. I think this is where Brooke fell down. We know all about the quirks of Tim, Ella, Woody, Paddy etc but not so much with Brooke.

How Sammie is still in I have no idea. She/he is dull as ditchwater.

2Rebecca · 10/10/2019 23:58

I think Joyce is entertaining. Agree wearing false nails if going in as a bloke where you have to make things is silly. Her research is generally poor though. Researching a couple of ski resorts if putting up a snowboard pic should have been obvious. Georgia and Brooke were cute if wierd

wizzler · 11/10/2019 06:20

I don't think that Joyce has the means to do any research as they went straight from being Beth and Jack without leaving the building.

Makes me laugh that they are hunting cat fish based on what they themselves do. I was less irritated with them last night, maybe I am softening in my old age

LolaDabestest · 11/10/2019 06:45

That was brutal for Brooke, I was hoping paddy would go he is grating on me big time ....even "josh" was genuinely shocked and upset paddy was cheering and dancing around as he was safe there at all he's self obsessed. He likes Georgina so at least should have been disappointed for her, his disability is all that's kept him in anyway quite sad he had to use that.
