The Circle is back on tonight (Channel 4, 9:15) and I am soooooo excited Grin

OP posts:

I’m liking Beth more now. Her personality is showing more than.

mydogisthebest · 08/10/2019 09:03

I too don't think Beth is that attractive although she thinks she is. She certainly wears tons of makeup

2Rebecca · 08/10/2019 11:00

I think Beth is. She and Jack aren't that bright though and don't seem to have many interests. They'd have been better avoiding festival stuff and having a project one of them knows about or picking an obscure hobby they could invent stuff on.

SpanishFly · 08/10/2019 11:16

I think Beth is getting more attractive as time goes on. And actually it's because of her personality coming through. So that's kind of the opposite of what she is used to.

I cant believe how they're all behaving like Joyce is 300 years old 😅

And how did they not know Tim was gay? Clearly knew literally nothing about him at all. Or didnt take the time to find out.

EttyG · 08/10/2019 11:31

The Beth thing is annoying me. I am a plain girl and often get overlooked, growing up and in my 20s boys always fancied my mates who were typically better looking. Jack wasn't even interested in Beth until she showed a picture in the sexy photo challenge with side boob in! Beth said she felt overlooked in the group. I can't feel sorry for her. This is what happens to many of us who aren't blessed with beauty!

However I expect the producers have gone out searching for her like they did for someone disabled e.g. we want a hot girl but want her to catfish as a plain girl. We want a disabled person and want them to catfish as non-disabled, we want an older woman (Katy/Jay) to play a young male. We want a gay person (emelle) to play a straight person. They seem to have covered all varieties of catfish apart from race so far!

lynsey91 · 08/10/2019 12:03

@EttyG I was extremely plain (well still am) so I know only too well what it was like to always be overlooked.

Everyone has different views on attractiveness though. Beth is certainly not plain but I don;t think she is that attractive, Brooke and Georgia are far more attractive and well far less makeup.

Why would Joyce recognise sherry because she is in her 60's? I am in my 60's and doubt I would recognise it. I think I have tried it once about 40 years ago!

EttyG · 08/10/2019 12:32

Yes there is a difference between being pretty/good looking and being attractive, I see attractiveness as the whole package - I certainly wouldn't find someone with a bad character attractive even if they were model-looking.

It's just annoying when you are plain that you often don't even get given the chance! It's probably why my better relationships have grown from friendships. But that doesn't help when you are single living in the world of online dating!

KatyCarrCan · 08/10/2019 12:49

lynsey yy I found it funny that they thought Joyce would recognise sherry! Two of my sisters are in their 60s and they wouldn't recognise it. It's the generation above that eg in their 80s who would be more likely to drink sherry.
I did laugh when 'Joyce' picked Reading festival and Woody had been last year. They're not having much luck with their catfishing!

I find it fascinating when a chat ends and they have completely different views of how it went eg 'Joyce' thinking it went well whilst Woody and Ella thought it hadn't. Brooke thinking she'd bonded with Sammi and Sammi thinking she'd made it clear she suspected Brooke of the 'mean' picture. It seems to come up time and time again. It makes me wonder how often that happens in RL ie that you have a conversation think everyone is happy and actually the other person goes away with a completely different impression.

CameraTime · 08/10/2019 16:09

I'm always amazed by their complete lack of understanding of anyone over the age of about 35. Some of them act like older people are a different species! I mean, surely they've all known middle-aged people somewhere along the line, enough to know that they're not all one homogeneous group who can't relate to young people!

Do they not have grandparents, work colleagues, neighbours etc?!

mydogisthebest · 08/10/2019 16:46

I agree that they act like older people are so different to them.

They would probably be amazed that I have no children, am in my 60's and yet have seen Frozen and I saw it at the cinema!

It makes me laugh how so many of them speak in such clichés. Ella with her "what the fuck" and talking about having "bants". Do they speak like that in real life? I know my young nieces and nephews don't

Italiangreyhound · 08/10/2019 18:45

Like Georgina, like Woody but would like someone who needs the money more to win it!!

Like Beth.

Don't like Ella.

On the fence about Paddy.

Find time amusing but annoying. I've probably met my share of older intellectual ex monks already!!

Brooke isn't that interesting. And Sammie, well he's playong it brilliantly. He deserves to win for effort alone but he needs to make more friends.

Poor old Joyce will be out first chance they get.

Georgina to WIN!

Italiangreyhound · 08/10/2019 18:46

Tim not time!

Ontheboardwalk · 08/10/2019 21:36

Why is it on so late? Starting at 10.15 tonight.

I’d rather watch the circle at 9.15 then 'two top chefs complete to replicate a packet of pickled onion flavour monster munch' what the fuck!

I do wave to Woody and Tim every day as I drive to and from work

DonttouchthatLarry · 08/10/2019 22:48

Ella's voice is reminding me more and more of Kim Woodburn as time goes on.

fruitpastille · 08/10/2019 23:28

I agree it's on stupidly late. My favourites are Woody, Tim and Georgina. Zoe Ball must be bursting with pride at the lovely young man her son is. I dislike Sammie but have seen a more genuine softer side to him this eve. Is he starting to crack?!

100PercentThatBitch · 08/10/2019 23:45

I'm watching on PlusOne

Jesus the adverts are frustrating

PippaPug · 09/10/2019 00:01

Woody seems lovely and I’m loving his cat fish board!

Anyone else noticing Georgina/Brooke/Tim don’t seem to be as close now - and on today’s hash tag game they didn’t give each other the nicest of hash tags today, but thought Tim was very sweet giving “Sammie” the bestie title as he felt like no one else would.

I don’t like the way Ella has to SHOUT constantly however, I turn the tv down!
I however cried at listening to Paddy disclose his disability to everyone and to me that sounded genuine (but I’m also pregnant and cry at anything now!)

100PercentThatBitch · 09/10/2019 00:09

Paddy didn't exactly catfish them for very long or to any great degree 🤔

Do you think he lied and said he would keep it up throughout the run knowing he had no intention ?

itswinetime · 09/10/2019 00:17

I'd like to think paddy only agreed to hide his disability as a way on to the show and told them and never intended to hide the truth from them for long.

I'm a little bit suspicious that he revealed it just before we are due another rating's but that may well say more about me than him!

100PercentThatBitch · 09/10/2019 00:22

I actually found that grim, felt like disability being used by production as "pity porn" or "inspiration porn" backed by a big soaring soundtrack for people to random declaring themselves patronisingly "proud" of somebody for stating a fact.

It's an evolution of the "aww, bless 'im" mentality which serves to illustrate how far we have NOT come in how we view disabled people

Yeahnahyeah1 · 09/10/2019 07:21

Ugh I cannot stand paddy. He was fuming that he wasn’t the only disabled person in the circle and he’s been so bloody nasty about people for no reason at all. He’s awful.
Beth is vile, I feel absolutely terrible for the poor girl who’s photos she has used... like she’s a real person!! She’ll see this 🤦🏼‍♀️

Loveislandaddict · 09/10/2019 07:24

I had mixed views on Paddy declaring his disability. He said he wanted to go on to be judged for him not his disability, in the same way Beth didn’t want to be judged for her looks, and Woody for his parents connections. And then he discloses it. I think he realised that was a big part of him and who he is, so he couldn’t hide it anymore.

It struck me last night that the chats are always very short. Do you think they have a time-limit on how long they are allowed to chat for? They always seem really surprised when someone chats to them also. Are they also limited to how often they can chat? I guess we don’t see them all.

InglouriousBasterd · 09/10/2019 08:41

Whoever called it on the race catfish looks like they were bang on, looking at the trailer for tonight! Black woman being white male!

2Rebecca · 09/10/2019 08:42

I felt a bit emotionally manipulated last night by the show. I think it will alter the ratings. Georgina's disability got her a teddy. I suspect there are rules to what you can catfish about so you can pretend not to have a disability if you have one but not vv, and you can pretend to be white if you are black but not vv. children are regarded like pets and can be invented. Age and sex can be invented.
I dont want this to be like xfactor where the person people feel sorry for most wins. It should just be about how people interact, although then the snakiest flatterer may win.
Agree they dont seem to have much time to interact and seem to not make the most of the time they have usually cutting it short after a couple of exchanges.

lynsey91 · 09/10/2019 09:15

I really hope Woody or Tim win. I really like both of them. Woody is such a bright and caring person. His parents should be very proud of him
