Tonight 9pm
Looks good!
Holliday Grainger is such a good actress.

He was also the very stoic officer in The Last Post!

I myself don't think he's married to the DSup - though in retrospect it would be hilarious if he was and had kept his face superbly blank when Rachel showed him the photo and asked who she was.

humansympathique · 19/09/2019 09:20

Haha soonerthanIthought - top pokeher face if so! I like italiangreyhound's idea that they are not married but have previously had an affair too. hope they don't go down a ' rachel you remind me of a young me, all naive idealistic passion for truth until i met the cold realities of ....' cliche. I didnt buy the idea that rachel would open herself up in the car to someone she has reason to be wary of. Too cynical to think the softtoy was there purely to engineer the conversation?

That the car txt called him shauny could be a hint it was from matt, but equally cd be to mislead him/us. Someone mentioned a neat explanation that its matt's wife. Could easily have been leaned on by threats to family or offered £. I doubt it, but works well.

What about the safehouse door camera? Was that sequence just a cheap dramatic device to raise and dash our hopes re shaun rescue or did rach know for a fact that they were lying and kept her powder dry or did she believe the explanation or just under too much pressure from a failed operation with half metropolitan police standing around?

Have slightly rethought the cia interrogation. He def didnt know about guy in hannahs flat but was the where's hannah questions all part of the set up snd he knows full well as they hsve killed her?
Sorry for the essays. Its fun to read eveyone's ideas and whst ppl pick up on

pinkribbons · 19/09/2019 09:33

Really enjoying this. Would it not be known to everyone in the force if the grey haired lady and the guy Rachel is shagging were married? I think he is in on it too.

The80sweregreat · 19/09/2019 09:40

Matt's wife did give Shaun a horrible look through the window when he was in the garden talking to Matt in episode two.
However, he had been all over the tv and was thought to be a criminal etc so maybe she was just wary of him but she could also have been threatened by the CIA i suppose.

I hope that Carey and Shaun team up to find out who is out to get him and how they doctored the cctv footage and why Hannah was killed. Still so many questions.

humblesims · 19/09/2019 09:46

Really enjoying this but think Holliday Grainger not well cast in this. She seems to be trying (and failing) channel her inner Gillian Anderson. Maybe I'm just getting old but she seems too young and lightweight for this role.

The80sweregreat · 19/09/2019 10:22

She is young to be in such a prominent position but I guess that's how the ' fastrack' works, even if more experienced colleagues would be better, they are often overlooked when promotions came up.
Used to happen in my dh's office ; the younger recruits rose up the ladder but their ' people skills' were lacking and they were nearly all horrible , trample over everyone types.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/09/2019 10:31

Didn't Carey Mulligan play a fast-track policewoman in another drama recently too? She came across as a more sympathetic character though. Although if Rachel sides with Shaun I will think more kindly of her Wink. Surely Lucas is a good guy too?

The80sweregreat · 19/09/2019 10:54

Holliday played Robin Ellacott in a drama based on the Cormoron Strike books by J K Rowling last year. She was a private detective working for him.
(She didn't look anything as I imagined her in the books!)

englishmummyinwales · 19/09/2019 19:06

I don’t think Group Captain Peter Townsend (love that!) is married to the silver haired lady. Wasn’t there a scene early on when Rachel rang him at home in the middle of the night and he was sleeping next to a dark haired lady? Or did I imagine that as nobody else seems to remember?

humansympathique · 20/09/2019 09:10

Bore da englishmummyinwales
Great shout! I don't have that much recollection of her appearance, but reckon it wasn' t grey hair. I'm going with no marriage, no children, service lifer, previous affair w grey so15 chief

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/09/2019 09:26

As someone said upthread, if GCPT (as he should henceforth be known!) is married to SHW (silver haired woman) then he's got one hell of a poker face to not react when he saw her photo.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/09/2019 09:32

I would expect that in his position he's probably quite capable of being very poker faced though, wouldn't you?

eccentricalice · 20/09/2019 10:25

I think it would be well known if they were married to the other officers so wouldn't be a very convincing plot twist IMO. I think them having an affair is likely though.
It's so confusing!! Why would they say the footage of Shaun "attacking" Hannah can't be used if they are trying to set him up for her murder?!

humansympathique · 20/09/2019 11:08

@eccentricalice exactly
also gotta remember ms grey is almost certainly not police at all. Presumably mi5, but whatever, she has no obvious hinterland & is v senior.
The crux - as you suggest - is who wants what? American seemed interested in dead lawyer and maybe just using the toy soldier? The guy in lawyer's flat must be interested in her too. Is anyone interested in shaun other than asa fall guy? Are so15 also interested in rachel? To see how malleable she is to nefarious means to ends before letting her in to the inner circle? or possibly to get rid of her too?? When did grey become silver???All question no answer

youvegottobekidding · 20/09/2019 11:14

englishmummyinwales, yes I saw that too, GCPT, was sleeping next to a dark hair lady, as you say when Rachel phoned him. So the silver haired lady (what’s her name again?) can’t be his wife.

The80sweregreat · 20/09/2019 11:16

I wondered why they redacted the video of the ' attack' on Hannah but the other detectives still managed to upload it, so whoever wanted it gone didn't do a very good job of wiping them all! ? I am confused about that.

TheSpottedZebra · 20/09/2019 11:43

I can't remember if we saw dead hannah 'live', or just via cctv? If cctv, then that could be fake too. So she might not be dead.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/09/2019 11:47

I think we saw dead Hannah live rather than via the CCTV feed - if you recall when Shaun was looking in the boot of the car, some of those watching him on CCTV were asking what he was staring at so intently.

humansympathique · 20/09/2019 11:49

I think redacted means not admissable evidence in court, not that all copies are wiped ... tho im sure someone might like that too

eccentricalice · 20/09/2019 11:50

Shaun opened the boot of his mates car and dead Hannah was in there as police watched him on CCTV... but the police couldn't actually see what was in the boot just Shaun opening it up.
And it is all connected to this terrorist case that Rachel resolved before by the look of it with the lorry going past to act as a distraction. Can't wait to see how it will all pan out

humansympathique · 20/09/2019 11:56

Not the first drama to do it, but still neat that the main players are largely following each other round on screens rather than the trad car chases, glimpses across streets, just evading each other cop and crim stuff. Rachel knows a lot about shaun, but shaun has only seen rach on the cia safe house door cam ( i think). Builds well for a physical meet

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/09/2019 11:58

Rachel interrogated Shaun when he was first taken in for Hannah's abduction, didn't she?

humansympathique · 20/09/2019 12:04

Course she did! I forgot that half hour!!Blush ty

The80sweregreat · 20/09/2019 17:49

I'd forgotten that bit too. They have met each other!

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 20/09/2019 19:18

Just watched the first 3 episodes and really enjoying it although I don't understand why they'd want the barrister dead or to fit Sean up for it. In addition, why ask him where her body was if they put it in the boot of the car - his interrogation doesn't make sense to me at all.

The cctv manipulation is very scary, especially if it is that easy to do!
