I don't see why quietly reliable and having integrity can't have hot times too. I was rooting for C and S in S1 and very upset with the daft ending. BLH is not, on the surface, as delicious-looking as TJ, but I warmed to him gradually, as indeed did others.

It’s so bad it’s good, and I’m just obsessed! Colbourne is the Darcy of the show!

I am not challenging you at all, just asking you if you can pinpoint what you mean by 'It's so bad it's good'.
A friend watched S1 E1 and didn't watch any more. I didn't watch S1E1 properly but stayed on board in 2019 and watched through. I thought there were preposterous moments but I didn't want to stop watching.

Last evening I thought Carter's face registered quite a lot when he watched Alison and Fraser dancing - probably only two seconds of film.

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2022 12:13

I love Coulbourne's smouldering angst. Yummy. Nothing wrong with farmers in any case!

I'm dying to see what novels they plunder for ideas next series.

He felt guilty for moving to the country and leaving his wife behind but I don't think that's necessarily a flaw considering what happened.

before he can get Charlotte back
Eh? Is that a spoiler?

I have asked for my posts, and a couple of others to be removed.

It is not my intention to post anything that could be construed as a spoiler.

It's just that at ITV pace they've only shared a kiss so far!

Well it’s hardly Pride and Prejudice is it! The writing is mediocre and the storylines rather silly at times but it’s just an enjoyable cheesy hurrah, not everything has to be a work of art I suppose.

I like Coulbourne he’s killing the mysterious smouldering looks, much better choice than Lennox who is creepy at best.

woodhill · 21/08/2022 16:57

Yes it's all a bit daft and spoofish

We laugh at the stuffed shirt colonel (boo hiss)

StarbucksSmarterSister · 21/08/2022 22:32

It's not perfect but it's a masterpiece compared to some of the dross on tv (yes Madame Blanc, I'm looking at you ...)

I think people expect more because it's based on Austen but even "proper" Austen can be ropey, such as the 2007 Mansfield Park.

Season 1 was adapted by Andrew Davies who did 1995 P&P (and hundreds of other things) and he's written part of S2 as well, including next week's final episode. I thought the kidnap in S1 was excruciatingly bad and the balloon thing was silly but I absolutely love it. Maybe I'm blinded by love for Colbourne. I do like a man with a troubled past.

Prinnny · 22/08/2022 17:50

Is it the final one this week, it’s only a 6 parter?! Surely not, there’s still so many unanswered questions, I’m not ready for it to end yet!!

EBearhug · 22/08/2022 18:54

But we already know there's a third series.

GuyFawkesDay · 22/08/2022 19:08

Third series is filmed and ready to air.

JaneJeffer · 22/08/2022 19:47

Is the new series going to be on Netflix first?

OP posts:
StarbucksSmarterSister · 22/08/2022 20:53

It'll be on PBS in the US and Britbox in the UK, followed by ITV a few months later.

JaneJeffer · 22/08/2022 21:15

Meh, why couldn't ITV get it first? They're useless.

OP posts:
StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/08/2022 02:22

Well they had it first, showed it first then cancelled it! It was picked up by Masterpiece who did a deal with Britbox to show it here. ITV don't deserve it the way they keep cutting out motivational scenes.

Could you not get a free week's trial to Britbox once they've shown S3 and binge watch in a few days?

upinaballoon · 23/08/2022 19:43

We can have a new thread as we're near the end of this one. I had intended to wait for ITV's showing but I succumbed to Britbox this year. I had already spoiled it in a way by googling reviews while it was showing in the USA and the googles had led me to look at scenes on Youtube, so I had a fair idea of what was going to happen. I am very pleased someone else took over the making of more when ITV wouldn't do. There are people on Reddit chewing it over and over while they wait for next year, and Twitter threads which admire Mr. Colbourne.😃

JaneJeffer · 23/08/2022 19:52

We can't get Britbox here unfortunately @StarbucksSmarterSister

I think ITV pissed everyone off who were expecting a happy ending to Series 1 and didn't expect any audience for a second series.

Not getting Britbox is annoying.
