I didn't like him anyway.

Nor me. He lost me st "New

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/07/2022 23:00

Bugger.

He lost me at "New Maid?" and it went downhill after that. 😂

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/07/2022 23:04

Regarding the cuts, someone said it wasn't just Luna, they also cut Charlotte saying that girls deserve the same education as boys and freedom to evolve to their true selves.

That bit is important.

I was looking at a text so missed it, so am not sure how much of her speech was cut.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/07/2022 23:09

"What not leave him where he was at the end of season one to give us lustful
Hope"

They said because they didn't want constant speculation that he'd be back. Despite everything some people ( who have actually watched it!) are still saying that he might come back. I won't say more in case it's a spoiler, although that plot point has been in the press.

That speech from Charlotte was in there

It's a pity everyone couldn't watch at the same pace like the first series Sad

Charlotte's speech to Mr. Rochesteralike wasn't cut. I wonder if he's got a mad wife in his attic?

Was all of it there? Someone I know is convinced they cut part of it.

diddl · 24/07/2022 08:29

I'm glad it was clear that Sidney wouldn't be back.

Why would Charlotte want someone who married money to save his brother?

upinaballoon · 24/07/2022 11:02

Hey, watched a slightly truncated Sanditon on Friday, although I have watched bits on Youtube for ages ( DON'T GO NEAR IT if you are avoiding spoilers) and eventually subscribed to Britbox and have seen series 2, as I've already said somewhere else. Pressed the EPG this morning to find Emma. on BBC tonight. A woman's cup runneth over.
Jane Austen did not create Colonel Lennox or Alexander Colbourne but she did create Mr. Knightley. I don't think she ever described him physically, as in dark or fair or red-haired, but when they were at the ball she did say that Emma looked over at him and she thought how young-looking he was. Off-topic but I don't care!

I don't understand why they bothered doing what they've done to Sidney of screen. What not leave him where he was at the end of season one to give us lustful
Hope

...because they think we might turn our lustful hope in other directions, or Charlotte might redirect hers?

SavingsThreads · 24/07/2022 12:29

True. He was so fit. I love a broody moody hero.

YES. He would never have been so rude and he certainly wasn't in JA's version.

Maybe. It's the only version I've seen and I can't remember exactly what she said.

Someone on Twitter today said they've seen all of the ITV version ( on the Hub, with ads) and there are cuts in every episode, including a whole scene between CH and AC in ep 4. I'm trying to find out which one ( ie how important.)

They seem to have cut 8-10 mins from ep 1.

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2022 15:44

Thanks for the Emma heads up @upinaballoon I haven't seen that version. I love Josh O'Connor

Oh I loved Johnny Flynn as Mr Knightley in this.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/07/2022 16:15

OK the cut scene in ep 4 is an important discussion between the 2 leads and the whole thing has been cut. 😡

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2022 16:20

That's really annoying @StarbucksSmarterSister what are ITV playing at?

OP posts:
StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/07/2022 18:29

And parts of 5 and 6 which are important for motivation.

Absolute **oles.

Anyone who can who hasn't seen it, get a free trial week on Britbox and binge watch it.

Ah yes, Josh O'Connor who was darling Marius when Johnny Flynn was wicked Felix - Les Mis BBC.😃

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2022 19:14

I think I've only seen him in God's Own Country which is a beautiful film.

OP posts:
StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/07/2022 20:23

Josh O'connor was also Larry in The Durrells. I didn't realise it was the same person when I watched Les Mis.

LadyTwinkle · 25/07/2022 11:47

None of these jokers are worthy of Charlotte. The entire plot seemed like a patchwork of elements taken from Austen's other works, and then there was some Charlotte Brontë and Wilkie Collins thrown in for good measure. Although I enjoyed it overall, it came across as superficial compared to series 1.

I agree, I think it's because there was no central plot line in season 2. It's like downton when it began to stray from its purpose and become like a cheesy soap.
