3 different ladies and how they cope trying to keep afloat with their lives

OP posts:
mnahmnah · 26/08/2019 20:41

I might binge it just to get it over with Grin I need the answers!

ConfCall · 27/08/2019 00:04

I’m halfway through episode 2. It’s poor. The dinner party scenes were so stagey. Thong storyline really unlikely. Girl who started her period looked about 20. Very ordinary woman getting an indecent proposal from an attractive rich man.

I’m hoping it’ll improve.

Sparklypen · 27/08/2019 17:16

I'm also most of the way through ep 2 and trying to decide whether to continue. Agree anna friel upper lip looks weird- same as a lot of actresses (am thinking of the older ex wife in Riviera); and why does she look so stressed all the time? I mean even before she'd committed adultery and failed to collect her daughter's 14 year old friend she looked really stressed.
And why the heck is she feeling so guilty about the girl going AWOL - she's 14, not 8, she could've phoned to say I haven't been picked up .
And why is she letting her daughter have such a go at her for wanting to contact the police??

ConfCall · 27/08/2019 23:11

Nope, it didn’t improve.

The child actors were excellent, great casting, they shouldn’t be short of work in future. Beautiful scenery. Cute dogs. Ummm...nothing else positive to say really. It was contrived, superficial, mediocre.

rosegoldfever · 27/08/2019 23:36

Gave up after one episode, it was funny when the plastic surgeon told Anna Friel
She doesn't look as if she had any work done, and doesn't need it, when she obviously looks like someone with surgical enchantment.

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 06:44

To be fair to Anna Friel, her lip has always looked like that. Surely , if she had had work done, a plastic surgeon would have sorted out the raggedy nature of her top lip. When she wears lipstick, her lip looks more 'normal' : it's just that her top lip is a bit misshapen. I have always noticed that about her.

It annoys me more that she stomps when she walks and has zero facial expression (or a constantly anxious one really) : I don't think that's down to Botox ; I juts think she can't act! And I find the patheticness of the characters she plays so annoying! Why does she keep apologising and whimpering?

I am not finding any of the characters in any way relatable , or remotely believable.

Kinraddie · 28/08/2019 16:48

Just finished episode 5 and yes it is infuriating but will see it through till the end. Having now seen what Guy's new living arrangements/life is .... why on earth was he at the dinner party in episode 1? Cannot work this out all?!

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2019 18:59

Sunset Song fan kinraddie ?

Deathraystare · 29/08/2019 08:29

Only watched the first one. Can't be bothered with it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2019 21:44

Think I’m the only enjoying

It’s easy watching

Switchsplash · 30/08/2019 09:48

I have seen the first 4 episodes. It is utter tripe, but I will watch the last two. The only programme that frustrated me more in terms of people behaving in totally unreasonable, unprofessional and impulsive ways was "Cheat". That had me shouting rather than muttering at the TV.

mnahmnah · 30/08/2019 13:44

I have got up to episode 4 and I’m actually quite enjoying it now and really want to watch the rest. It’s taken quite a surprisingly sinister turn!

NameChangeNugget · 30/08/2019 17:13

I’ve watched the whole lot and I enjoyed it.

It won’t win any BAFTA’s however. I’ve seen far worse

Crunched · 01/09/2019 01:24

I found it entertaining. I was interested in the character of the female police officer.
Does anyone know why the series was delayed in being broadcast? I believe it was originally scheduled for February.
Do you think they will dramatise any more books?

mnahmnah · 01/09/2019 07:52

I really enjoyed it all. Although I still would have liked some clearer answers at the end. More details on what happened with Scott and the reception guy. Exactly what Kate had been up to with Fergus. Had Guy actually been married to both of them? The fact that Fergus pushed the boy off the boat was never really dealt with. Did Adam avoid his wife finding out about the bathroom?

PinkDaydreams · 01/09/2019 17:07

@mnahmnah I agree, they didn’t seem to tie everything up at the end which I was disappointed with

louise5754 · 02/09/2019 09:33

And they all lived happily ever after (disputes all the issues) apart from
Kate 😂

AccioCats · 03/09/2019 12:52

A bit late to the party here as I’ve just finished watching. But OMG agree with pp that it was embarrassingly ridiculous. I mean I know it’s tv but some parts were just ridiculous- No way would someone wander off to the bathroom and have a completely pointless shag like that at a dinner party.

Likewise good looking hot bodied guy wouldn’t pay very nice but extremely ordinary physio for sex; he’d have no problem finding a fuck buddy, preferably someone he won’t bump into at the school gates.

It was like the writer wanted to cram every conceivable issue in... affairs, porn, rape, women who are unfulfilled in their work life, bored rich housewife, camp bakery guy, fabricated illness, addiction, teenage runaway.... it would have been far better to have fewer issues more subtlety done.

And the ending- it was just so crass- obvious the writer wanted one woman happy ever after, one woman completely written off and one not yet sorted but getting there.

Agree that the children were the best actors in it

And maybe I’m imagining this but at one point in the past Anna Friel seemed quite well regarded and on her way to being an A lister. What’s happened? She’s become completely wooden, has two expressions only (anxious/preoccupied and very anxious/ preoccupied) Also seems to have had some dodgy lip work done.

Can’t quite believe I’ve watched it really (though to be fair I multitasked all the way through, no way could I have given it 6 full hours of my life.)

purpleme12 · 05/09/2019 21:54

I know it's on itv player but I really thought people wouldn't discuss it before it had been broadcast on normal tele

AccioCats · 05/09/2019 22:00

It’s a kindness really- saves you the bother of watching it Smile

purpleme12 · 05/09/2019 22:01

An excuse not a justification

AccioCats · 06/09/2019 07:35

No one needs an excuse or justification to watch a TV a series, nor to discuss it with others. What a bizarre idea! If you don’t want to join in the discussion then don’t!

There’s loads of series I watch on catch up TV and often get a week or two ‘behind’ so I just don’t join in any discussion when I know episodes have already been aired.

purpleme12 · 06/09/2019 08:12

My point was that discussions should be about what's aired on 'normal' tele. Not before it's aired. Once it's aired fair enough. Not wanting an argument I only said that cos you were trying to justify what you did and other people might like the programme. Different tastes and all that.

AccioCats · 06/09/2019 08:27

Today 08:12 purpleme12

‘My point was that discussions should be about what's aired on 'normal' tele. Not before it's aired.’

Why? What rule is this?! What’s ‘normal’ TV anyway? There are multiple ways of viewing these days.

Btw I wasn’t trying to justify anything! And of course everyone is entitled to their own views - that’s what discussion is! Though as you’ll know from having read this thread, about 95% of viewers thought this series was ridiculous

purpleme12 · 06/09/2019 08:33

Ok not looking for an argument I've made my point
