Is anyone else watching?
Couldn't see another thread for it. I'm hoping it's going to be good.

oooh, shops.
stuff needs to be indestructable and safe

Yes this, but they probably weren't fully briefed that it was even for a shop.. so let's expect a brief that is "put your own style onto this space", followed by mismatched florals, and monochrome hazards.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I'd want to buy wool that's been stored in those manky old cardboard tubes Hmm

TheSpottedZebra · 28/08/2019 20:31

Dammit I missed the first third.

TheSpottedZebra · 28/08/2019 20:34

Dammit I missed the first third. I have no idea what's going on.
Obviously I'm still judging them all hard.

Nice to see the campest one in the male equivalent of That Zara Dress - the striped shirt that looks like an Ikea uniform .

Cambionome · 28/08/2019 20:35

The tubes don't look great, do they? Sort of... mottled. Confused

TheSpottedZebra · 28/08/2019 20:37

Those baskets with handles are ikea aren't they? And that plastic green chair?
And did another group have loads of Kallax?

Have they only been to ikea? Is the why the chap is wearing the shirt?

TheSpottedZebra · 28/08/2019 20:39

And that glass jar was a Korken.

Do I win a Daimler bar for my ID skills?

LIZS · 28/08/2019 20:51

No feedback from shop owners?

Halsall · 28/08/2019 20:54

Yes, we should hear from the shop owners.

Mary P appears to have Frank's number, judging by her expression.

Cocolapew · 28/08/2019 21:07

Why she change the curtain fabric?! The owner asked for it Confused

Frank wasn't impressed was he? Grin Jerome's pitch was awful.

I want Kyle to win because last week I saw he had my favourite photo of Prince framed in his house Smile

BillyAndTheSillies · 28/08/2019 21:09

Frank is starting to put me off the whole series. I nearly fell off my chair when he complimented Nicki's design.

weebarra · 28/08/2019 21:53

Yes, totally thought that Mary had Frank sussed.

BadnessInTheFolds · 28/08/2019 22:46

I also wanted to hear from the shop owners, especially after such a specific brief.

Poor Terian, I think she was unlucky and basically got booted out for her lack of standing up to Valerie, rather than her design skills. I agree that the shop looked fairly boring and wasn't finished. I just think if they were losing two people out should be based on their own design, not someone else's.

I was not a fan of the cardboard tubes at all, didn't look that different to standard wool storage in shelving units and had rough edges. I imagine they'll get tatty. Part of her pitch at the beginning was that you could move them around but they looked fairly well wedged in and would roll around if you didn't have four in a row. Everyone on the show loved them though so I'm clearly not cool enough Grin

Funny that they haven't really mentioned budgets in the show much. Going to go read that blog now!

MabelStark · 28/08/2019 23:00

@BadnessInTheFolds I thought I heard £3,000 for the budget? Wouldn't swear to it though ☺️

longtompot · 29/08/2019 00:19

I liked the look of the wool in the tubes, but my issue was when choosing wool I like to be able to see the labels and see what thickness the wool is. But, I imagine it would be much easier to move whole lots around.
Much as I liked the till area, I just kept thinking its far too tall for anyone in a wheelchair for eg.
I liked Frank better in this episode, though why it took him so long to see the fecking ply floor would need sealing was beyond me!
I was sad to see Terian go. I was cross with Verity at how she just overrode the one thing the shop owner wanted, the tropical curtains for the changing room. They would have vastly improved the look of the place. It just looked bland.

BadnessInTheFolds · 29/08/2019 06:56

I think you're right @MabelStark Nicky says so in the blog. I must have missed it on the show!

She also said the tubes were so the stock could be rotated seasonally- I think that makes a bit more sense as there would still be the same number and they would still fit in the rack. So I'm a bit appeased!

I do think with a lot of these shows, the producers feel the need to add a twist to make it more exciting (adding chocolate to a theme, getting rid of a whole team instead of one person etc). I'd far rather just watch people design something and then see how well they do without weird obstacles being thrown in the way! Maybe I'm in the minority though Grin

BadnessInTheFolds · 29/08/2019 06:56

I agree about the curtains, and really rude to not even mention it before they arrived! I can't imagine the shop owner was pleased either

Goatrider · 29/08/2019 10:27

I've haven't seen much of this, so I don't know who is who (or really what the format of the show is!) but from last night's I thought the judging was really weird. Why didn't they ask the client what they thought?

I thought it was really unfair of Mary Portas the ones doing the skate shop should have convinced the client not to have so much stock out. He was very clear that he wanted everything out. I think the judges should have sat in on the pitches too.

I did agree that the clothes shop was the worst one, but it seemed unfair that the woman who was jsut the helper got kicked out too.

360eyes · 30/08/2019 19:41

Havent posted on this thread before, but have been watching the show.

I was a bit confused by the final decision. On one hand they were criticising Frank's team for not ignoring his client's wishes, but threw the other team out for doing exactly that. Make your mind up!

I get the impression that the main judge (forgot her name) seems to take an instant dislike to certain people, and once she's made her mind up, you could present her with one of her own designs she had forgotten about and she'd still vote you off.

I've decided that Frank has already decided that he isn't going to win, so is trying to get a job as a pantomime villain instead and is modelling his behaviour on Katy Hopkins to ensure this.

I had Verity down as a front runner, but it did go horribly chaotic for them both. It was the worst shop, so I guess it was justified, but still miffed at the contradictory comments.

dillite · 30/08/2019 20:20

I just caught up on the Wednesday's episode and agree that the right team went, although it's seriously unfair that Terian was punished even though it wasn't her design and she was overruled on everything.

I am slightly in love with Kyle. Even though his design lost, he was gracious about it and worked hard on Ju's design as well as make elements of his ideas work with Ju's. And it looked great.

I liked the wool shop but thought that the tubes along both sides of the shop was too much. Made it look a bit dark and enclosed. It looked very cohesive overall though.

Frank is such an arse, isn't he? He thinks he's the absolute best and will not accept that no, he's not. I used to work with someone like him, it was hell.

dillite · 30/08/2019 23:24

Also, to add, I hate all the manufactured drama and problems. I would much rather watch a show where designers are given a reasonable amount of time and no curveball, unless they occur naturally as work goes on. You can still have a competition, even if it means that they get to finish something properly. And none of this, you need to redesign a corner shop and then on the day it turns out to be a sodding Harrods.

ElspethFlashman · 31/08/2019 09:51

Kyle seems to be quite handy. He's one to watch, I think.

Am I the only one who quite likes Frank? I just think he's just a bit blunt. But we have seen several instances where he helped other people with lifting furniture and stuff. He also does say when he likes something as much as saying when he doesn't like something. He is trying to take on board criticism. I think he's OK, actually.

This show has really made me covet some dungarees. One of the ladies has a khaki Lucy and Yak pair. And Fearne was wearing a pair of TopShop leopard ones, sadly sold out.

orangeshoebox · 31/08/2019 10:20

I can't warm to frank, but I realise it's heavily edited and he might be a very lovely person.

I think the judge had it right this time. frank had good design bits but without a good finish due to all the stock. the ladies had a good design in theory but just didn't finish. it would have won the week otherwise (apart from the shin breakers in the sitting area).

Kuponut · 01/09/2019 17:38
- Thought it might be of interest to you guys. Haven't seen the show yet but knew it was coming up as I have it on FB as one of our many local yarn shops - she also has talked about it a bit on their facebook feed as well.
FedUpOfItNow · 01/09/2019 22:38

I tried to resist this because I'm not a fan of Fearne but gave in as if they're not making the Great Interior Design Challenge anymore this will have to do. I'm not enjoying it as much though, the brief obviously isn't clear enough and there isn't enough interaction shown with clients, which was a big part of GIDC. Plus I miss Tom Dykhoff.
