Is anyone else watching?
Couldn't see another thread for it. I'm hoping it's going to be good.

Frank is an arse. I hope he goes soon.

Right decision this week.

Stonerosie67 · 22/08/2019 21:33

Enjoying the program, but absolutely cannot stand Ferne Cotton, so bloody irritating!!!

Cocolapew · 23/08/2019 10:27

BumbleBee could you tell me if interior designs are supposed to make stuff or just decorate and source buy things?
They always expect the contestants to make things in these type of programmes.
Tbf they don't seem to be given a very detailed brief, or they are and we don't hear it.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/08/2019 10:46

Just saw a comment from Terians Instagram, which seems to say they basically got told the brief of a hotel room, designed the room, ordered all the fittings etc to their own houses to be delivered in time, (budget again of £1,500) only then to have it sprung on them that it was to be 'chocolate' themed. So she had the choice of either redesigning it all & being out of pocket or just going with it.

That seems unfair to do that to them, why would they not tell them the chocolate theme in the first place. This might actually explain why quite a lot of them had nothing to do with chocolate apart from last minute small touches. Which if they were going to be out of pocket, I can completely understand why they wouldn't want to redesign their whole rooms again.

Oh that's not fair. The Interior Design Challenge was a much better format. We knew what their brief was, the budget and they knew they had to make things to show of crafting skills etc.
I'm still a bit bemused by how crap most of these are though, there had to be loads of people much better.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/08/2019 10:54

The hoteliers expect rooms that:
Show the designers unique 'signature style'.
Rooms must include clothes storage for short stay,
a bedroom chair,
an area for tea and coffee making facilities.
Incorporate the existing carpet and recessed ceiling lights
Include a new, bespoke headboard design.

This is taken from Nicki's blog, this was the brief, so can now totally see why they all put their own design on it!
Then it got added at the last minute that it was a chocolate theme hotel Confused
Sounds like they are setting them up to fail!

^ link to her blog which makes for interesting reading.

Also they didn't really mention on the program all the difficulty with trying to source fire retardant furnishings etc for the rooms.

'do they need to be cleaned?'

Shock at the comment from victorian lady.

Cocolapew · 23/08/2019 10:58

The viewer should be told all that too Confused, I agree it seems they are being set up to fali.

Cocolapew · 23/08/2019 10:58

fail

Cocolapew · 23/08/2019 11:01

There's no way the Victorian one was fire retardant Shock

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/08/2019 11:25

Just been looking on the hotels website..

Our hotel was lucky enough to be chosen for a new BBC programme which will be aired 21st August 2019 at 8pm on BBC2. Due to taking part in this we had 9 of our 15 bedrooms refurbished. However we have changed a number of the nine rooms since the filming to a more suitable design.

Wonder which ones got changed...
seems a waste of money really doesn't it, considering they didn't let them know in advance that it would be chocolate themed.

Hi cocolapew, to answer your question, on my course anything unique to the design was usually sourced by a bespoke maker, with the designer outlining the exact requirements. This ensured a high quality of individual design.
The designer was not expected to put it together themselves.

Cocolapew · 23/08/2019 12:23

Thanks Bumble, I thought maybe it was just a tv thing.

DarlingNikita · 24/08/2019 16:17

I'm not watching this on pointless principle because I loved the Great Interior Design Challenge and would have just liked another series of that. I miss Tom Dykhoff and the splendidly camp judge Daniel Whatsit.

Sunflower20 · 24/08/2019 18:22

Most of their styles scream 'basic bitch of instagram' to me. Nobody stands out. They kicked off the only marginally interesting guy in episode one, fair enough though since he didn't pay attention to the brief.

Episode 2 - I hated all of the rooms, too air bnb

Davros · 24/08/2019 20:08

Just finished watching. A good number of those rooms were vile but imo the "Victoriana" room was the worst - orange and maroon?? I thought I wasn't going to like Ju but she seems nice. I've fallen in love with Jade Jagger

orangeshoebox · 24/08/2019 20:11

I wonder why they didn't use more of the things that were in the rooms originally?
they looked totally fine and appropriate before the makeover imo

JasperRising · 25/08/2019 22:10

Have just found this programme and caught up with the first episodes. Was the decorator who was with Trish in the second episode also on the previous design challenge programme? Sure I recognise her from somewhere.

I have a lot of respect for their budgeting skills having read the blog linked above - can't believe they are managing so much when they also have to pay expedited shipping. It does explain why they do a lot of their own making when interior designers wouldn't normally do it themselves.

Was a bit Hmm at Victoriana lady saying that she was doing a Victoriana scheme and the referencing Marie Antoinette. That is not the same time period! And isn't she supposed to be an antique dealer?

Cocolapew · 25/08/2019 23:05

I recognise a couple of the builders/ decorators from The Interior Design Challenge.

ppeatfruit · 26/08/2019 10:54

Interesting coveting I haven't heard them mention the environment yet, that was terribly wasteful. ( I'll watch the recording of it today)

Yes.. kind of ironic considering the BBCs stance on Blue Planet / War On Plastic.

Very wasteful Sad

So was putting new carpet down . That woman deserved to be the next one to go. She didn't seem to be up to it. The judges noticed that her headboard wasn't chocolate OR seaside themed!

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/08/2019 15:21

I'm looking forward to tonight, Mary Portas is one of my idols, I think she'll speak her mind if she hates any of their shop designs tonight.

OP posts:
orangeshoebox · 28/08/2019 15:27

oooh, shops.
stuff needs to be indestructable and safe

longtompot · 28/08/2019 15:42

I'm not enjoying this series as much as the previous ones.
I really liked Jade Jagger. She seemed quite down to earth and kind, even when it was something she didn't like.
I do not like Frank at all. He is coming across and devious. Why offer a piece of art to 'unify the rooms' without saying you'd make it for them? We'll never know if he was going to make it, so he goes away looking like a good chap. What did his elephant wallpaper have to do with the theme as well. I can't belive the judges liked it so much!
I really loved the blue floral bedroom, which they hated. I would feel happy staying in that room. The Victorian room just looked like it smelt musty and was full of dust and cobwebs shudder I can't believe the designer said do you need to clean it!?
The right person went I felt.
I really loved the study from tne first episode, but who wants faux pink arches in their living room? Glad he went too.
We shall see what tonight has to offer....
