Thanks for the thread origin.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 23/06/2019 21:01

Here we go!

HigaDequasLuoff · 23/06/2019 21:10

I am sure there would be some taboo against any commander talking to their own ex-handmaiden

Destinysdaughter · 23/06/2019 21:11

Signing in, thanks for new thread!

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 23/06/2019 21:16

Wtf!!! Is he trying to set her up or 'prove' he's on their side?!?!

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 23/06/2019 21:17

The whispering drives me mad
What did Waterford say to June about Commander Lawrence

Destinysdaughter · 23/06/2019 21:17

These men deciding on the fate of women are reminding me of that group of older white men in Alabama ( or Georgia?) in America deciding to make abortion illeagal. Chilling...

Ffsnosexallowed · 23/06/2019 21:17

I'm a bit lost now

HigaDequasLuoff · 23/06/2019 21:17

Presumably June would have been in serious trouble if she had identified the correct book via the forbidden skill of reading?

Kitsandkids · 23/06/2019 21:18

I think he was maybe trying to prove he’s one of them when really he’s not. But also I think he thinks June’s getting too cocky.

MoobaaMoobaa · 23/06/2019 21:19

ok I missed the first 5 mins, what happened? did he get rid of someone? they all seems so scared and wondering if someone ended up in the colonies?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 23/06/2019 21:20

That was so tense!

I was panicking thinking “oh shit, if she picks the right book they’ll know she read the spine, how does she do this?”

But then C. Lawrence gave her an “out”. He’s a wicked shit but also not totally. Right?

DrinkReprehensibly · 23/06/2019 21:20

Waterford said that Lawrence doesn't like to be bored but that she'd probably already figured that out, or words to that effect. I have the subtitles on.

That scene was tense... Surely she's not supposed to read therefore retrieving the book was difficult but then he gave her a detailed description. Not sure what all that was about. I need someone cleverer to explain the subtext!

Crinkle77 · 23/06/2019 21:20

That's what I said too about the book. However Lawrence described where it was instead of letting her just go and get it. Why is he also being so horrible to the marthas. Remember in the last series when Emily went to commander Lawrence's the Martha called him old man and he didn't mind.

Berrys245 · 23/06/2019 21:21

A handmaid would not be allowed in a room full of men and not be able to talk to them alone. In the book June spends loads of time in her room. I appreciate that would be quite a boring thing to watch though!

purplecroc · 23/06/2019 21:22

Oh I am so lost with this episode!

Kitsandkids · 23/06/2019 21:24

I wonder if Serena is now thinking ‘what bollocks’ when people start ‘praying’ like that.

HigaDequasLuoff · 23/06/2019 21:29

Nice. It was clear that Cdr Lawrence's speech was all about him and his feelings and I suspected it wasn't being actually addressed to Serena. Nice reveal.

Berrys245 · 23/06/2019 21:31

Just googling esoteric 😂

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 23/06/2019 21:34

What did he mean by “how tempting it is to invent a humanity....?”

Crinkle77 · 23/06/2019 21:35

What I don't get is if commander Lawrence believes in Gilead so much why doesn't he go through with the ceremony. I am still confused by him.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 23/06/2019 21:35

His speech to Serena?

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 23/06/2019 21:36

Waterford was making the speech, in jezebels?
So Lawrence really believes in this but in a theoretical kind of way, now its really happening and he doesn't like the reality? I'm so confused!!
