We are watching UK pace, Channel 4.

We have only seen episodes one & two so far.

Please NO SPOILERS.

I'm finding this episode a bit boring, TBH.

As someone said above, no handmaid would be allowed in a room full of men. Maybe they know Lawrence is a bit 'eccentric' but none of the men batted an eyelid when June walked in. They seem to be moving away from the whole Gilead 'thing'. I guess this is what happens when the TV series takes on a life independent of the book.

Joxer I took it to mean its tempting to explain things in a human way but a person with no humanity is a psycho. Im worried about this trip!

What's a "salvaging" in Gilead speak?

Do you think he always wears a scarf because he’s scarred from trying to slit his own throat/hang himself? Or his wife tried?

I've recorded it and will watch tomorrow. When Dh isn't around to roll his eyes at it. He wouldn't know good TV if it bit him on the ass.

Salvaging is public execution. One type was hanging where they all hold the rope. And yes there was stoning people to death as well.

So did C Lawrence turn a blind eye to June having Nick in her room (for a shag?) or does he really not pay any attention to his house so didn’t realise? I’m not buying that June was afforded so much privacy.

Perhaps these men are so high up, (is there anyone is Gilead with more power?), that they do whatever they like and can be hypocritical without censure?

I'm glad she said a proper goodbye to nick. I suspect he will pop up again possibly battle damaged in Canada?!

Just checking in...not sure about tonight's episode at all. A bit boring and too much to read between the lines.

Serena in the water put me in mind of a baptism - is she emerging as a ‘new person’?

Salvaging is where handmaids (& possibly other women) execute someone with rocks or their hands - as well as getting rid of miscreants it provides an outlet for the pent-up aggression so the women don’t get too uppity.

The thing with the hanging and the rope is a particicution.
