And no, taking shows off air is not a deterrent because the venom in these people would still be there, there would just be a narrower set of people to gun for.

What utter nonsense.

Gummybear11 · 23/06/2019 13:58

Human nature has proven to be pretty vile sometimes. These programmes thrive from it.

SlipperOrchid · 23/06/2019 14:02

Of course people should not be vilified.

There are three parts to the equation of LI.

Producers need to take responsibility of only accepting mentally stable people.
Viewers need to accept the show has a formula and is heavily edited and manipulated.
Contestants need to take ownership of putting themselves on TV and ask themselves why they are doing it.

TatianaLarina · 23/06/2019 14:03

The first step would surely be to take programmes like this off the air - their popularity is based on people enjoying loving some contestants and hating others.

Not just that but actively manipulating the contestants and the audience for entertainment.

It’s always made me uneasy about these shows, but until recently past contestants were generally positive about their experiences and the opportunities (and in some cases serious money) that went with them.

But two suicides on, the dark side is just too dark - irresponsible and unethical.

TatianaLarina · 23/06/2019 14:07

That’s very naive.

It’s impossible to tell how stable anyone is from the kind of psychiatric evaluation offered by these shows. Even full psychiatric assessment is subjective and problematic.

Secondly, even people on this thread are completely clueless about the extent of manipulation.

Thirdly, 21 year olds are not known for their self knowledge. Nor do they actually have the remotest idea of what they’re letting themselves in for.

Sagradafamiliar · 23/06/2019 14:08

Utter nonsense, Tatiana? I find that dismissal bizarre. So you don't think that the worst trolls are responsible for their own behaviour? It's the show's (producers) fault?

Sagradafamiliar · 23/06/2019 14:12

I take it you will be morally obliged to protest and switch off if you find the show unethical and 100% to blame for others' foul abuse.

MoominMantra · 23/06/2019 14:12

At the moment people don't even get prosecuted for rape or stealing so imagine trying to prosecute someone for mean social media comments?

Sagradafamiliar · 23/06/2019 14:12

Exactly, it won't happen moom

MoominMantra · 23/06/2019 14:13

In any case, the contestants in this year's show certainly have a tendency towards bullying. First of Lucie and now of Danny.

Sagradafamiliar · 23/06/2019 14:13

Unless they're deemed to be hate crimes, anyway but that would still be rare.

Sagradafamiliar · 23/06/2019 14:16

The producers are missing a trick with all the manipulation and being so selective with what is shown. The Saturday shows which are less formulated are actually much more insightful and entertaining!

fraxion · 23/06/2019 14:17

I wonder if Amy does have a disability re her posture etc and the way she climbed the stairs etc?

For crying out loud, she just packed in her job as a flight attendant before she went on Love Island, a job you need to be in perfect physical health to carry out.

TatianaLarina · 23/06/2019 14:20

Utter nonsense, Tatiana? I find that dismissal bizarre. So you don't think that the worst trolls are responsible for their own behaviour? It's the show's (producers) fault?

What I referred to as nonsense was the idea that taking the shows off the air wouldn’t be a deterrent. Of course it would.

The producers manipulate the audience as much as the contestants.

There are some fucked up and vile people in the world and these shows exacerbate that.

Louise0701 · 23/06/2019 14:21

@Proteinshakesandtears completely agree with all of that

I am shocked by first look! I don’t buy yewandes tears and I do think I would be in her best interests to leave. She’s not a vile person but this show isn’t for her and I really don’t know why she went on. She’s a very intelligent woman with a fantastic career from what I can gather.
Her affections toward him were fake. Danny isn’t 100% innocent but doesn’t deserve the way he was seemingly ganged up on either. Elma, Maura, MM, Lucie & Tommy never recieved that kind of hate for “keeping their options open” so why Danny?
Tom is a shit stirrer 🙄
Haven’t decided if I’m going to watch tonight’s episode yet :/

fraxion · 23/06/2019 14:21

But two suicides on, the dark side is just too dark - irresponsible and unethical.

Sadly, Sophie should never have been on that show given her existing mental health issues before going on. They need a more robust screening process.

Sagradafamiliar · 23/06/2019 14:23

That's kind of what I meant, they are vile. Taking the show off air isn't going to change them into sweetness and light. They'll just be trolling on some other show and inboxing their vile abuse on IG as usual.

Bellendejour · 23/06/2019 14:23

First look is up!

It’s a bit neg...

Everyone is piling in on Danny which I think is a bit unfair.

I really do think Yewande needs to take some responsibility for how this has played out.

And people should be a bit more fair on the show. They are acting like everyone is in a committed relationship that no one should tear asunder!

Someone needs to give Yewande some tough love IMO, it might actually be more helpful than turning her into the victim.

TatianaLarina · 23/06/2019 14:25

Taking the show off air will stop them abusing the contestants on social media, sending death threats to their families etc.

Sagradafamiliar · 23/06/2019 14:28

Yes of course it will, it will literally remove the chance to do it. I was talking about trolling in general terms, i.e. my comments about taking personal and social responsibility, in the long term hope that this type of behaviour will be seen as wrong and stop.

TatianaLarina · 23/06/2019 14:30

Sadly, Sophie should never have been on that show given her existing mental health issues before going on. They need a more robust screening process.

Over the time that I’ve watched reality TV - which isn’t a huge amount but enough to gauge a pattern - I’d say half the contestants shouldn’t have been on there. People who want fame from TV aren’t necessarily the most intelligent, self aware or most grounded.

It’s naive to think that a screening process exists that would resolve this. Even full psychiatric assessments fail to flag major issues. Psychiatrists call things wrong all the time.

Louise0701 · 23/06/2019 14:39

If you feel it should be pulled off air as it’s that damaging surely you wouldn’t be watching?

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 23/06/2019 14:43

Amy gets slagged off because of her utterly bitter immature personality imo

Bellendejour · 23/06/2019 14:46

Amber and Michael are actually getting on my tits the way they think they are the moral arbiters of the house. What is Danny supposed to do, just stay with someone he doesn’t like because otherwise he’ll be vilified? Plus their coaching of Yewande was actually really stupid and harmful. They encouraged her to be someone she wasn’t for all the wrong reasons. Yes Danny hasn’t handled things well but it’s ridiculous how they are turning on him.

So much in-house bullying this year I think. I feel like last year people managed to accept things and roll with the punches a lot more. And people weren’t wading in and guilt tripping eg Wes for moving on.

Have they not watched the show before?

It’ll be boring if people are scared to pursue anything with anyone else.

ROLL ON CASA AMOR!!!!

unique1986 · 23/06/2019 14:46

Maura kisses Tom tonight and invite him to spend the night in the hideaway.
But then she over hears him gossiping with the guys.
Then she goes mad st Tom 😀
