I was a lurker on the last thread, I didn't post much, but I loved all of your comments. So the last one was full, here's another one

OP posts:

Tracey and Steve don't seem to even like each other much, let alone love each other. I don't understand why he can't tell her what he (possibly) knows about Emma - why would she be cross? It wasn't an affair Hmm

thenightsky · 16/08/2019 21:36

why was Robert pretending to be asleep on OW's sofa?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/08/2019 21:38

Some cracking lines tonight "yes, if James Bond has no teeth and was filmed by Ken Loach".

MrsSteveMcDonald · 16/08/2019 21:40

Steve has become very under the thumb, he never used to be like it.

Robert is pathetic the way he's letting this perfectly acceptable situation turn into a farce.

thenightsky · 16/08/2019 21:42

I really hope Emma is not Steve's DD.

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 21:42

@thenightsky probably so he didn't have to talk to her about arranging a wedding date

@MrsSteveMcDonald completely agree about Robert. He can't come clean to anyone now because he chose to be a dick Confused your username is grim though Wink

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 16/08/2019 21:42

Robert storyline is absolutely woeful. Come on Corrie writers!! Earn your bloody salaries.

Frillyfarmer · 16/08/2019 21:52

I hate the Geoff/Yasmine storyline.

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 21:54

@Frillyfarmer ugh me too. I feel like it ramped up today.

woodhill · 16/08/2019 21:58

Absolutely Monkey and why wouldn't Tracey ring Steve rather than pay for a cab. Hate the way she spoke to Steve, in real life she would get a mouthful back.

Not liking Geoff

And Gemma's mum is just the lowest of the low

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 22:09

@woodhill she did phone and he said he was driving to Leeds(I think it was Leeds)

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 16/08/2019 22:12

Tonight's episodes were utter tripe- but I just can't stop watching after 45+ years.

keepondreaming · 16/08/2019 23:06

I'm probably in the minority, but I quite enjoyed tonight's episodes (apart from the Robert/Vicky/Michelle story which is beyond believable).

I thought the actress who plays Emma was good, I felt for her. The Yasmeen/Geoff storyline ramped up and made me shiver a bit, especially the last scene. Mary always make me smile (I know she's very 'marmite' but I like her!) and the playing bridge scenes in the pub were quite realistic. Don't like Gemma's mum, as a character, her actions are too OTT. Tracy & Steve are well suited, there is so much potential for future Amy storylines having parents like that.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 16/08/2019 23:10

I thought the Geoff scenes tonight where he said “do not laugh at me” were very good. Very realistic. The whole “you were flirting with Johnny, making me look small, humiliating me” stuff sent shivers down my spine as someone who has experienced it.

Honeyroar · 16/08/2019 23:31

I quite enjoyed tonight too. (apart from the Robert bit, he's SOOO annoying. I feel for Vicky though, she's going to get hurt (and I'm dreading Michelle's distraught face for months when she finds out!And I'd be rather cross with my husband if he'd spent all our money and was lying about what on!!

floribunda18 · 17/08/2019 14:40

Yes, the Geoff actor is very good, but Yasmeen has always been quite feisty and I think she would just tell him to get stuffed! Though I guess the storyline is how someone becomes diminished and worn down by an abusive partner.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 17/08/2019 14:56

I think the way coercive control works is that it is sneaky, to start off with and catches you by surprise so you are initially confused (like yasmeen was last night, and she laughed as it was so ridiculous sounding to her) and then because you’ve been accused of something part of you will think “wait, did I do that? Maybe it looked like I did, even though I didn’t mean to. Wow I feel bad, i’ll Apologise, and promise not to do that again and watch my behaviour in future” and before you know it you’ve apologised for something you didn’t do, even though you’re not sure if you did it so you think this person has a better eye for spotting your transgressions than you so when they bring it up again you automatically take their word for it that you did it and you know you have “form” so instead of putting up the fight like last time you just apologised straight away and it becomes a pattern because nobody likes to argue. So you just try to keep the peace.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 17/08/2019 14:58

I do have a full stop key in my phone. Blush sorry.

ajandjjmum · 17/08/2019 15:41

I thought that pregnancy tests only showed 'positive' until a certain number of weeks - and Gemma seems to have been pregnant forever! Would it still work for the vile Mum to be able to sell as positive tests?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 17/08/2019 15:53

Pregnancy tests will show positive throughout the pregnancy and for a very short while after birth until the pregnancy hormones leave the body.

But a pregnancy test response is only reliable within something like 10 minutes after the results appear. If you look at it after the ten minute time has elapsed you may not be getting the right response.

eddiemairswife · 17/08/2019 17:11

Can someone explain to me exactly what Gemma's mother was trying to do with all the pregnancy tests.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 17/08/2019 17:21

She is selling them to women who want to trick their partners into thinking they are pregnant.

eddiemairswife · 17/08/2019 19:54

Thankyou.

Bobbybobbins · 18/08/2019 17:28

I think the Geoff/Yasmeen storyline is very timely and very well acted and plotted. I think it's excellent that they have gone for a slightly older couple and a female character who is confident - shows how it can happen to anyone. The slow, slightly sinister creep of his control is brilliant but hard to watch.

Housewife2010 · 18/08/2019 19:00

The Robert/Michelle/Vicky storyline is a rehash of the 2003 Peter Barlow/Shelley/ Lucy storyline when Peter was engaged to two women and one was pregnant. Lucy became Simon's mum. He married then both. Will Robert be the next Coronation Street bigamist? ( I remember Emily's bigamist husband, Arnold Swain in the '80s)
