The thing with the Maria story line is that it's a load of bollocks.
Being a single mum isn't a barrier to finding a partner these days and Maria is incredibly attractive, she'd have zero problems getting a date. They're trying to make he out to be some kind of old spinster with no hopes, doesn't ring true.

How old is Maria? I'm estimating early 40s. She seems to have been in Corrie forever. Doctor Ali must be late 20s at most if he's still training.

But yes, with regards to Ali. She's related to him in exactly the same way that Carla is. That's how she knew Michelle wouldn't be happy.
But I guess it's less weird as he didn't grow up with his family. Still VERY weird though

Corrie is so awful at the moment, utter dross, Maureen Lipman is good but if story line that she could get together with Roy happens, will ruin what could be such classic corrie, and as for Gail going abroad, as if??, she doesn't even go to Manchester city centre, crap!, Why can't we have yet another train crash/factory fire/accident and kill off half the cast, I'd definitely watch then, so many crap actors and so little time!

Well no, as it turned out Carla is actually a Connor as well as having been married to Michelle’s brother. Whereas Maria is only an in-law. However I think Michelle was more upset by her bestie shagging her son rather than cos they were related!

Johnny and Barry (Michelle’s dad) are second cousins so that makes Michelle and Carla far enough out cousins to make it ok for Carla and Ali go shag Grin

Carla was married to her 3rd cousin (without knowing the relationship I think) and shagging Liam who was also her 3rd cousin. Ali is her 3rd cousin once removed.
