It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

Sorry that comment was about Lord Une of the Stormlands

SweetSummerchild · 22/05/2019 16:03

FFS, I’ve just been looking on IMDB and have discovered that The Dragon and the Wolf (that f*cking awful episode at the end of season 7) won an Emmy for OUTSTANDING WRITING.

How the hell did that happen? Are these the same people who are now criticising the writing now?

itswinetime · 22/05/2019 16:03

I reckon the actor who played lord une rang up asking for his characters name. The writer embarrassed that they didn't have one looked at the script that said Lord number one improvised and went with the Lord une. Une being french for one (or possible a, french wasn't my subject but it still works) Wink

OrianaBanana · 22/05/2019 16:03

Also if I was king I’d want a better moniker than ‘Bran the Broken’! In fact maybe he could choose a different regnal name altogether to avoid being confused with Bronn (and Brienne).

SweetSummerchild · 22/05/2019 16:06

To be fair, Bran refers to himself as Bran the Broken - as opposed to Bran the Breaker (his ancestor).

He could solve one of the problems by having Bronn quietly murdered.

OrianaBanana · 22/05/2019 16:07

Or even just calling himself Brandon

SweetSummerchild · 22/05/2019 16:07

itswinetime actually, he probably said “He’s called Lord....uhmmm....” and he just misheard!

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 22/05/2019 16:07

Quite right Carol. When a huge terrifying army of zombies came to destroy the living Yara essentially took the Euron approach. “Can they swim? In that case I’m off to my nice safe island. Good luck suckers”. Admittedly the ironborn did commit heavily to the cause of helping Danaerys conquer Westeros, but that’s not necessarily going to win you any brownie point in the NWO. And the Dornish sat on their arses throughout.

itswinetime · 22/05/2019 16:08

Bran the creepy?
Bran the high?
Bran the impatient? (We don't have time for this Wink)

In all seriousness Bran the all seeing or all knowing would have been my choice.

Loopytiles · 22/05/2019 16:09

I’d be like Yara Blush

DH would be like Jon Snow or Jaimie and head off to fight the zombies.

OrianaBanana · 22/05/2019 16:21

The North was allowed to secede because the King is a Stark and Sansa is his sister. The Iron Islands lost most of their fleet and army to the cause. What is puzzling is that Yara cares enough to make an objection to Jon's fate, but not enough about the Iron Islands' independence (which Dany promised her) to ask a question.

CarolDanvers · 22/05/2019 16:26

They lost their fleet to Dany's cause of obtaining Westeros and the iron throne not to the fight with the army of the dead. Dany is gone after slaughtering their capital, therefore Yara would be on shaky ground making any kind of request or demand in her name, but as I said I can't see her accepting it for long.

JasperRising · 22/05/2019 16:27

If Yara has any sense she'll have worked out they can't possibly survive as independent kingdom. I mean they are barren rocky islands. It is an utter mystery to me how Euron managed to build so many boats so quickly after Theon and Yara stole half his fleet - boatbuilding takes time and timber. And I assume Bran would also want them to stop pillaging as Dany did and that has to be the only way they can survive without being subsidised by other areas of westeros...

We weren't watching with subtitles and during the voting, the characters were literally labelled as Man one and Man two, not even Lord Une.

OrianaBanana · 22/05/2019 16:31

Most of the northmen died when King Robb went off to the Riverlands, fought the Lannisters then got murdered at the Red Wedding. Also at the battle of the Bastards. There were relatively few left, when Yara (also with a small force) was retaking the Iron Islands to ensure they had a safe retreat from the NK etc. if required.

As I said, she cares enough to object angrily to Jon going free.

Totaldogsbody · 22/05/2019 16:33

My theory is that Drogon has taken Dany to another Red Witch and she will be brought back and return to conquer all again. A lot madder than she already was. I'm disappointed Sansa and Tyrion didn't get together, I feel they had a little something going on this season and it would have been nice for someone to want Tyrion for himself and not his money. I'm a hopeless romantic, I know was never going to happen. The wall is not needed anymore, they defeated the night king and the wildings are now friends of the north so Jon need never return and his life is with them as it was going to be with Ygritte. GRRMs not supposed to be happy with the ending and I can't wait until the final books come out if he ever gets around to it.

SweetSummerchild · 22/05/2019 16:37

Troop numbers mean less than nothing on the show. The entire Dothraki army died in the ‘first charge’ during the Long Night (apart from Jorah and Ghost) but miraculously half survived. Dany’s fleet (courtesy of the Ironborn) got destroyed three times and Euron’s fleet destroyed by Drogon.

Technically, the Ironborn should consist of Yara and three boats but anything is possible. Either way, if the Ironborn are going to stop reaving they’re going to have to ditch the ‘We Do Not Sow’ house words.

agirlhasnonameX · 22/05/2019 16:39

Yara protested against Jon because D&D needed to send him to the wall and Grey worm wasn't enough to convince us this could happen. Good job, I'm thoroughly convinced. She didn't care about the Iron Islands Independence because then Brans victory wouldn't seem as significant, and then we'd be left thinking Dorne will leave too, then Lord Une and Bran is King of nothing and it was all for nothing. I don't think it's more complicated than that really.

OrianaBanana · 22/05/2019 16:40

What did they do after King Robert conquered them? They must have survived somehow unless he turned a blind eye to a bit of reaving. Except didn’t Euron capitalise on the fact that they weren’t allowed to react anymore for widespread support?

agirlhasnonameX · 22/05/2019 16:40

boatbuilding takes time and timber.
Tbf Bravos can build a ship a day. Not sure about the timber though.

OrianaBanana · 22/05/2019 16:41

To reave I mean

Hermagsjesty · 22/05/2019 16:43

@totaldogsbody I don’t think that’s right about GRRM not being happy with how the show ended... It was created from his notes and his blog post about the whole experience is pretty glowing: georgerrmartin.com/notablog/

OrianaBanana · 22/05/2019 16:44

The only person with any troops left to prop up the throne is really the Prince of Dorne. He is probably also the only one with any food. If only he had a name, he could be King!

Presumably the Iron Bank will be along also for the first instalment of their loan.

itswinetime · 22/05/2019 16:46

Theon did take some iron born to winterfell for the battle. I'm not sure how many but he definitely said the iron born would protect Bran. As they kept the king alive I could see a case to ask for freedom.

If they wanted Sansa as queen. She should have just been queen Tyrion could have made a rousing speech for that. Or dissolve the kingdom and give everyone independence with individual rulers. Both work and could makes sense.

Or have Bran as king and Sansa as warden of the north even give her some fancy title for the kings council or something but trying to do both didn't make sense.

Lweji · 22/05/2019 16:47

Presumably the Iron Bank will be along also for the first instalment of their loan.

The first item of the new council was to make sure the debts were all paid. Only to get a new loan for rebuilding, etc.

Not sure how the debts were paid, though. Or were they just sorted, in the sense that it was Cersei's loan, and both she and they lost.

Lweji · 22/05/2019 16:49

It was all geared up for "The North" to be independent, I think. Sansa as Queen of the 7 Kingdoms wouldn't be quite the same.
