So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

@ElenadeClermont

I guess this puts that one to bed (sadly)...

It would be nice though.

Why are people still banging on about the Azor Ahai/Valonqar stuff?

It’s not a thing in the TV series. Never has been.

Cottonwoolmouth · 13/05/2019 16:11

Jon has already died. So, Arya doesn't need to kill him

Did he? In this episode?

PreseaCombatir · 13/05/2019 16:23

No way did Jon die offscreen! I mean, I know they’ve done a lot off screen, but surely even they wouldn’t be that lazy!

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/05/2019 16:24

Anyone know where Bronn is?

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 16:24

*Jon has already died. So, Arya doesn't need to kill him

Did he? In this episode?*

No we didn't see him die and Jon's death is one they show! I think that it is referring to when he died and was brought back! I can't remember how the faceless man works can they wear the face of anyone that is dead or does it have to be someone they killed? That whole storyline is a blur to me?

I don't think it will be Arya as Jon though, it will be Jon he has enough reasons now and it fits his all for the greater good arch and the idea people are brought back with a purpose. Arya has had a big kill and still may take out Drogon but Jon and Danny need to have a last confrontation, j think it's unavoidable at this point.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/05/2019 16:24

Lweji means Jon died back at The Wall, Melisandre brought him back to life.

BarbedBloom · 13/05/2019 16:37

Totally hated it. Yes, seeds of her madness have been planted, but the absolute flip in a few episodes is ridiculous. I never thought I would say this but not even sure I will watch the next one. The leaks have been proven right so far.

It seems a lot of the cast aren't happy. There is a video on YouTube 3 minutes of the cast being asked their thoughts and being negative. Kit was asked what one word he would use to describe the finale and he said 'disappointing'

ElenadeClermont · 13/05/2019 16:39

@SweetSummerchild I wish it was true. I want my books. But of course Ran knows his stuff.

TheQueef · 13/05/2019 16:42

Bronn was last seen at Winterfell, he was waiting the coming war out to see which Lannister to claim from I don't think he was in this ep.

JaynePoole · 13/05/2019 16:45

Anyone know where Bronn is?

With Edmure Tully, his unnamed wife and son, and Elia Martell probably.

BurntSausage · 13/05/2019 16:55

*Why are people still banging on about the Azor Ahai/Valonqar stuff?

It’s not a thing in the TV series. Never has been.*

I just mentioned the valanqar stuff as an extension on my musings as to whether this is how GRRM planned things all along, if Jaime and Cersei’s death on screen is going to be the same in the books. If this is the ending that’s been planned all along, and is therefore going to be same in the books, then it can be argued it fulfills the prophecy when it’s written in the books.

There seems to be a lot of talk on twitter etc about the symbolism of the white horse that Arya road out on, mainly that it symbolises that she’s Death. I reckon she’s going to get Dany. I liked the theory someone up thread said about her taking Grey Worm’s face.

Does anyone watch Thronecast?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/05/2019 17:05

Barbedbloom have you got a link to that clip?

GooodMythicalMorning · 13/05/2019 17:08

I really disliked it. I still hope that Gendry will end up on the throne. Especially now Dany made him Lord Gendry for her own gains, I'd like to see that backfire now.

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 17:26

I'm not sure all those comments are In context. Although I couldn't make out who was doing the interview with greyworm he didn't seem happy

I don't think we will know what the actors really think till it's over and the can talk freely without spoilers for example is Emilia unhappy that Danny becomes the mad queen of the way she become the mad queen

hoxtonbabe · 13/05/2019 17:26

I never thought I’d hear myself say I miss the blooming night king! I’d be seriously pissed if Sansa takes the throne. I’ve never liked her character and dislike it even more in this season, I’d rather anyone or anything else, even The sodding dragon but please not Sansa.

This season in general just seems quite detached from all the other seasons, oh well, I suppose next week will reveal all

birdsandroses · 13/05/2019 17:27

Although I am not completely sold on Dany’s character turn, I don’t think it’s a huge stretch as some do online. From the start she believed her destiny was to be Queen and loved by those who followed her. She showed compassion whilst she felt secure, but when she moved to Westeros her future started to look rocky, she was an outsider and no longer loved by those she led. The man she loved also rejected her. This could potentially be enough to have a breakdown, although as said I am not sold for it be as complete as it was casting aside all she said she believed in up until then.

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 17:40

I don't know if I care who takes the throne anymore. I always wanted it to end with the throne gone and some kind of government with each of the regions represented a new system to replace the broken one.

But no one is talking like that so I can't see that happening in one episode

out of those left....

Tyrion, Sansa, gendry all much of a muchness to me they all have good and bad points for the throne none of them will really shake things up. Most likely to be one of those maybe a combination by marriage.

The rest I can't see how any of them could convincingly end up on the throne.

Danny can't keep the throne I don't think it can end with her on there it feels wrong

Jon and Arya don't want it wouldn't take

Bran his busy off being the useless three eyed raven self

Sam and Gilly I think are probably gone but if not all the foreshadowing is around him being a historian/Maester not a a king

Maybe the 3 surprise moment is tormund returns to become king....actually that may now be the only thing I will be happy with!

Smallandfriendly · 13/05/2019 17:41

I loved the episode although I’m in the minority.
Yes, this season is rushed and the writers are having to write backwards from the authors end vision but there is no way there was to be a happy ending nor will we see the end of every characters arc.
I think it will end with a sad and embittered Dany on the ash throne ruling by fear with Jon retreating up north as the northern King and it will end with war coming between the 2 of them.
I don’t think we will see the end arcs for the likes of Brienne, Gendry etc.
I actually like the Cersei/Jamie ending, it fitted with Jamie’s prior declaration that he has always, and will always love Cersei (when speaking to Edmure Tully) and it fitted that they quietly died together.
I found this episode sad and moving and even felt sorry for Cersei, despite everything she’d done.
My only regret is that I will find it hard to rewatch all the previous seasons now knowing what Dany becomes. Thankfully I did a full rewatch just before season 8 started so I was fully up to speed.
GoT has gone down in tv history as groundbreaking, for its extraordinary talent of such a huge cast, brave writing and SFX. I hope it’s legacy is not overlooked by its huge fandoms expectations at the end.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/05/2019 17:46

Thanks for the clip

Lweji · 13/05/2019 17:46

I hope they hold a huge banquet with the surviving characters in the last episode, a la Asterix. Grin

More seriously, I do hope they don't leave some of the most beloved characters just hanging. There will have to be Winterfell involvement at some point, so it's likely that they will tie up some loose ends. Like Brienne finding solace for losing her elusive love with a certain red hair.

Honeyroar · 13/05/2019 17:47

Jaime and Tyrion adored one another when Cersei wasn't around, they have been thick as thieves at Winterfell adoring one another's company. Jaime freed Tyrion despite knowing people he loved would hate him for it, and Tyrion has simply done the same thing. It was in no way a plan to trap Jaime and Cersei.

The white horse was definitely the one that the Lannister soldier was on earlier in the programme, but it had somehow magically stayed immaculately clean and had it's saddle taken off!

Sansa v Dany in a battle - hmm - despite having no training, at Winterfell one rant off to hide in the crypt, the other grabbed a sword and got stuck in.

Can't see Gendry as a ruler. He's a yes man, not a leader. Yarra is quiet in her absence to, and has a claim.

Surely at this point, nobody will rule. Dany will be killed and all the others (who aren't really the throne hungry ones of each clan) will go back to their little corners and live alongside each other as seperate units?

GabrielleNelson · 13/05/2019 17:58

I loved it. Can't wait for next week!

As for that Youtube link, come on. Kit Harington said 'Disappointing' as a joke. That is very, very obvious from the context.

SweetSummerchild · 13/05/2019 17:58

Sansa v Dany in a battle - hmm - despite having no training, at Winterfell one rant off to hide in the crypt, the other grabbed a sword and got stuck in.

To be fair, Sansa was sent to the crypts by Arya - she originally said she wouldn’t abandon her people.

Personally, I think neither Lyanna Mormont nor Alys Karstark should have been allowed on the frontline. They were the last of their Houses and the significance of the roles they could play compared to the disruption caused by the power vacuum they would cause should have been taken into account.

Despite her many faults, if I was one of the smallfolk I’d rather be living under Sansa’s rule than Dany’s.
