I’m hoping to get back in time for tonight’s show. We’ll see. (I have a badly timed training course - what was I thinking Grin)

RedToothBrush · 16/05/2019 08:01

Serhat is a repeat Eurovisioner.

I have to say it's an ear worm. DH, DS (4) and I have all been at it. Same for Frwend of a Frwend (thanks for that BTW, now it's never friend Hmm)

Rystall · 16/05/2019 09:32

Weirdly I’ve also been humming the Polish song for the past 2 days.... funny the ones that stick with you afterwards even if you don’t love them at the time. Just shows you the difficulty in performing a song once and expecting people to remember/ like it enough to vote for it on the night.

Can’t see anyone beating Australia at this point though.

Itssosunny · 16/05/2019 09:32

Looking forward to tonight's show. Duncan Lawrence and Chingiz are right at the end - love their songs. I hope they don't mess up their live singing as many do.

DH is singing Na, Na, Na all the time - Serhat Grin

What if Australia wins?

It's my top favourite at the moment.

RedToothBrush · 16/05/2019 15:37

Australia wouldn't be so pupular but for the gimmick of being on a pole.

I'm much looking forward to tonight's semi. The quality is far better. I think there will be a couple I like that won't qualify. Its going to be tough to get through.

I don't fancy your chances Ireland.

cricketmum84 · 16/05/2019 15:48

Devastated I can't watch the semi final live with you all tonight :(

I will be surprised if France doesn't win. Very good song and a very powerful message with the staging.

qazxc · 16/05/2019 15:56

San Marino has been stuck in my head.

Hello mes amies
Sorry red about Eurofwend Grin - Most of Inbetweeners has aged badly but me and DH still use Fwend a lot when taking the piss out of each other we must get out more
Conchita will be singing Heroes, Mans Fuego, Verka Toy as a song swap in the entertainment bit tonight iirc . I am way too excited already.

For those who haven't seen it yet! It made me smile.

I am rooting for Switzerland tonight.
I also like Norway and the Netherlands entries.
I think tonight's might be the stronger of the two semis but I will be very surpeised if these three don't sail through.

mathanxiety · 16/05/2019 17:33

I like Australia's song as a musical item, without the poles - she sings it well. I think it will do well in the final.

Poland's entry is definitely an earworm for me.

I don't get France at all - not impressed by Bilal's vocals.

Any predictions for tonight?
Quite honestly, if San Marino qualified then maybe Ireland has a chance....

The lyrics for Oz are quite poignant once you know she is singing about post natal depression

Hey you
It's me again
Hey you
Stone in my shoe
I've been aching
Feeling low
You're so heavy
I have got to let you go
I'm going where there's zero
Gravity
Zero
Gravity
Zero gravity
I'm free, oh
Hey you (hey you, hey you, hey you)
Lock with no key
Hey you (hey you, hey you, hey you)
Earth with no sea
I've been freezing
On the ground
You're so heavy
I can't let you keep me down anymore
Oh, zero
Gravity
Zero
Gravity
(And it feels like) oh
(And it feels like) oh
(And it feels like) ah
(And it feels like) ah
Nothing holding me down x22!!! Grin

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 16/05/2019 17:46

Ah raahh that's why I thought her dress lit up - in the 18 ridiculous reasons to get excited for eurovision she seems more illuminated than pogo-ing.
Portugal also looked far better in white with gold face bling than green and black plastic beard - I still wish they had got through on Tuesday night.

Itssosunny · 16/05/2019 17:56

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine, the link is outdated now as Ukraine doesn't take part in this year's Eurovision.

My favourite staging from last year, bless them.
RedToothBrush · 16/05/2019 17:58

I very much like the North Macedonian entry, for a pure song perspective. The promo video is very good. Its called Proud and its about women's power. However I don't think the staging is brilliant so I'm not sure it will get through tonight. I hope it does.

Theres a few on message / relevant songs this year. I think Croatia's is about wanting peace from war (I think this is a decent song, though have doubts about the staging). And Italy's is in Italian and Arabic - and is about money (or more precisely poverty). And Iceland's is a take on how hate is currently prevailing.

So its not just France who have the 'eurovision topical' message.

Itssosunny · 16/05/2019 17:58

Oh, Moldova was so cool last year!

OP posts:
RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 16/05/2019 17:58

It states on the actual video that Ukraine withdrew - I thought others might enjoy the comments for the other acts...plus seeing the human caterpillar that we are sadly missing out on.

mathanxiety · 16/05/2019 18:17

I always love the Moldova entries, RageAgainst, mainly because they tend to find a way to incorporate the trumpet in all their acts.

2012.
RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 16/05/2019 18:21

I hadn't heard France's entry math - Just watched it now. I think his voice is good for a 19 year old.
I like the melody very much.

The staging is a bit contrived although as a plus-size woman I was impressed by the pirouhettes. I'd assumed Bilan was trans but I just read he's gay and suffered a lot of abuse when he came out. He might get some more votes on the tolerance ticket like Tom did, but like Phoenix, the song is strong anyway. I'd be fine with France winning, any message of acceptance is good given that homosexuality still incurs the death penalty in 14 countries. In 2019.
Itssosunny · 16/05/2019 18:28

It states on the actual video that Ukraine withdrew, sorry, didn't see the message.

I love Bilal's voice but in the rehearsals there was too much noise in the background. Hopefully, it will be much better on Saturday.

OP posts:
RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 16/05/2019 18:40

Okay, add France to my other three. The melody from 1.20-1.40 and from 2.38 is gorgeous. Slogan staging isn't needed though - Germany did that last year. UK/Germany/Spain entries are bland although Spain's picks up for 20 seconds towards the end and has better staging than some. Italy's is also really good - definitely growing on me.

He belted it out in rehearsal. Ooh, I can't decide. That's 8 songs I like now, a record. Anyone know the current odds?
