How's this for a theory? There is no H. The whole H myth has been constructed by the OCG and the bent coppers as part of a long game to get rid of Hastings and put their own corrupt person in his place to render AC12 useless. Hastings is now being framed with the aim of Kate (who is corrupt) taking his place. The seeds were sown with dot's dying declaration (orchestrated by Kate - did dot really actually do anything except lie there blinking? It was Kate who said it was a high ranking police officer called H), Kate's promotion instead of Arnott (with Moffat/Ros H sexism allegations towards Hastings and possibly more from series 4?) and Arnott being thrown down stairs. Also the way kate has fliwn under the radar with her ambition but quietly and quickly progressed in place of Arnott. Now Kate is in prime position to take over from Hastings given her promotion, the plan to frame him and get him out of the picture is springing into action. Series will end with Hastings in prison and Kate taking his place and Series 6 will be Arnott finally realising they've got the wrong person and trying to save Hastings!

What all this Roger and Susan thing? It's confusing me!

Ooh I like that girl - I’ve been wondering for a while if H could be an epic misdirection, but I’m not sure how they could pull that off to be satisfying rather tha infuriating!

On the Board of H, there were two people called Paul Haleton and Susan Hyde Albert

I spotted that on Danny Waldron’s list of abusers, there was Paul Haleton and Roger Hyde Albert.

There’s also someone on the list with the surname Denmoor, the same surname as the balaclava man shot by Ted at the end of series 4.

At least I’ve got Game of Thrones to watch tonight (yesterday I prioritised LoD, obvs).

Paul Haleton is in his 30s which would make him the same age as Danny Waldron and also possibly Dot Cottan, so he can't possibly be on the list of abusers compiled by Danny. Unless there is a Paul Haleton Sr and a Paul Haleton Jr, of course, and that would also put a whole new dynamic on it ....

It wouldn't stop Paul Haleton Jr from being H, of course, but I still think H is a designation and not a person.

Wonder if Jed Mercurio is reading this thread and thinking "Flipping heck, I'm going to have to change the script again"?

I thought Ted was only a Detective Superintendent so not that high up, compared with some of the bent copper baddies in previous series? Don't suppose there's a police station that's featured with initial 'H'? Agree that it's looking unlikely (unless those other yet-to-be-seen high-ranking 'H' police bods suddenly feature) to be a person.

In the previous series I have found the storylines a bit of a stretch, but it was outweighed by the utterly believable characters. I hope it gets back on track....

This might be overthinking it, but...

Dot only disclosed ‘H’ because he was cut off, didn’t he? So we need a name that phonetically sounds like ‘aitch’ in the first syllable - Hastings more or less does. Others, such as Hyde etc wouldn’t. If Dot did in fact mean to say oh H (aitch) then why? It was his dying confession why would he be pissing around with cryptic stuff like capital letter names?

Dot didn't say anything. Kate went through the alphabet and asked him to blink twice when she got to the letter which was the first letter of the name of the senior officer behind the OCG. He double-blinked when she said H.
