Here is a new thread for when the old one is full.

Maybe it was just her accent then (though I'm well-used to a Scouse accent as I live on Merseyside and work in Liverpool)! I made sure I was properly concentrating too! 😂

NoWordForFluffy · 26/04/2019 08:06

But yes, his mum's name is Anne Marie.

SinkGirl · 26/04/2019 08:19

Maybe the knowledge of his mum’s name meant those writing the subtitles got it wrong? When I was first watching I couldn’t make out what she’d said so I rewound it and put the subs on.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/04/2019 08:24

I thought she said 'Our Marie' too.

SinkGirl · 26/04/2019 08:29

This is where it all gets tricky - was it an error by the actress, an accent issue, an error in the subtitles... this is when I know I’m overthinking it 😂

HoraceCope · 26/04/2019 08:47

Just caught up with this,
do Lisa McQueen and John both know they are under cover?
or did

BitOfFun · 26/04/2019 08:55

I was watching it with the BBC subtitles on, and they definitely (definately) said 'Anne-Marie'.

BitOfFun · 26/04/2019 08:56

Thanks was just for the tape, obviously. Not that I hadn't read the last few replies making exactly the same point...Blush

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/04/2019 09:17

Sub-titles often get things wrong though - something I quite often am irked by.

SinkGirl · 26/04/2019 09:20

They definitely do, which is why I said I’m unsure what the truth is here, but it’s quite a coincedence that they got it wrong with a name that’s actually really relevant. Not impossible though!

NotMyPuppy · 26/04/2019 09:34

I have seen House of Cards and if you mean the scene in the subway station then yes, horrific!

NotMyPuppy · 26/04/2019 09:34

Sorry that was to sinkgirl

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/04/2019 09:34

SinkGirl - maybe they had the same 'our Marie' vs 'Anne-Marie issue - as we've had on here - with understanding the Scouse accents. It's a pivotal piece of 'intel' though, so really bad that they've potentially got the wording wrong. Having said that, transcribing speech can be very challenging.

SinkGirl · 26/04/2019 09:37

That’s the one, NotMyPuppy - I was in a state of shock for a long time!

I said the same upthread, the use of Anne-Marie later in the episode could have influenced those transcribing it.

DinaCaliente · 26/04/2019 10:40

Corbett's father wasn't police...at least not at the time he was born.

Someone on twitter posted a screenshot of his birth certificate when they looked at it.

Corbett's father was listed as a Carpenter on the birth cert!

Decided to finally give LoD a go about a month ago and have finally finished catching up with it. Why has no one told me it was so good??? Why isn’t EVERYONE talking about it. Wow!! I’m hooked. I already want to watch the whole thing again!

I love all your theories :)

Muddlingalongalone · 26/04/2019 11:35

I heard it live as our Marie too.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/04/2019 11:42

Some people do go by their middle name, so it isn't unlikely that she would be called Marie (particularly if there was another Anne) anyway. But, thinking about it, his wife never met her and she's dead, so Anne Marie is probably the most likely option, in that context.

CoolCarrie · 26/04/2019 11:46

Have you seen the original BBC version of House Of Cards with Ian Richardson? Much better than the US one, there is a scene in that which is just as shocking.

CoolCarrie · 26/04/2019 11:56

I wa shouting at the telly for John to just shot the bastards, the gun was loaded as we saw later, he was far too trusting of Lise, who is definitely uco, but now she is in too deep as well. Stephen Graham is such a good actor, sad to see him out of the series.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 26/04/2019 12:35

I thought Stephen Graham's performance was a touch OTT.

I think Lise might be undercover but not a police officer - an informant maybe?

TheweewitchRoz · 26/04/2019 12:36

I agree @bibbitybobbityyhat

CletusVanDamme · 26/04/2019 12:49

How would you expect a man breaking the law, under extreme stress, living a lie and being on the edge of sanity because he doesn't know who to trust to be played exactly?

bibbitybobbityyhat · 26/04/2019 13:09

Are you trying to argue with me about my opinion on Stephen Graham's performance Cletus?

Rollergirl11 · 26/04/2019 13:23

I too was a little underwhelmed by Stephen Graham. For me he played the role too serious. I’m sure that’s what he was asked to do but it came across quite stilted and unnatural. Stephen Graham is excellent at switching between comic one-liners straight to menacing deadpan. I don’t think there was enough of that with this character.
