Here is a new thread for when the old one is full.

Also, and I could be wrong as I wasn’t looking out for it specifically, but as far as I remember, she had just been hired by the PCC when she showed up in S3. There’s no mention of her having worked for the police before that - I just feel that would be a bit odd? If she was H they could have at least written into the script that she’d been working for the police for years.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/04/2019 06:49

I don't buy it that she's 'H', although she too may be being blackmailed by them and 'encouraged to apply for a civvy but highly influential police position?

TedsFederationRep · 25/04/2019 07:19

I don't buy it either. She wouldn't have either operational or input as a lawyer. Neither would her boss, the PCC. PCCs are elected politicians.

The Helen Keller reference in the Sun article made me wince Confused

Just re-watching all - and I had forgotten how Kate had been having an affair with jayne Ackers wife. She’s not that “good”....

WhoWants2Know · 25/04/2019 07:51

Wait, what did AC12 do about that list after Lindsey Denton sent it to them? Surely they would have kept investigating the list, even after Dot died. But the season ends and it moves on to Huntley.

SinkGirl · 25/04/2019 07:59

Nothing as far as I can tell!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/04/2019 08:18

Yes, I was just thinking about Kate's affair with Acker's DH. I don't like the character, so biased in hoping 'H' (whatever that means) is her.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/04/2019 09:56

It can't he Kate. Why would she be asking Dot who it was if it was her? That makes no sense. She was too junior and doesn't have enough service too.

SinkGirl · 25/04/2019 10:02

Can’t be Kate unless the end of S3 was total bollocks.

I do however think she knows much more than she’s letting on because we’ve never heard the recording she took of Dot when he was whispering to her, which was before the filmed dying declaration we saw. He was definitely telling her things as we heard him say Fairbanks. What else did he say?

She already had authority to investigate AC12 from AC3 (who are about to turn up) - is that still ongoing?

MrsChollySawcutt · 25/04/2019 10:21

It could be Kate - faking the whole 'H' reveal would be a great way to misdirect attention from her. She not squeaky clean as her affair with Richard Akers, husband of her bent copper best friend shows.

On the other hand I would find it highly unlikely that Kate, mother of a small boy would be complicit in covering up for the known child sex abusers at Sands View.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/04/2019 10:33

But the storyline and end of S3 can't all be nonsense, so it can't be Kate!

I agree she's a bit shifty about some stuff, but she isn't H; her age / seniority (or lack thereof) means she can't be.

DarlingNikita · 25/04/2019 11:07

CraicMammy, I'd like 'You listen to me, fella' and as for rank, I don't think it's technically a police one but I fancy being Commander Nikita.

SinkGirl · 25/04/2019 11:10

It could be Kate - faking the whole 'H' reveal would be a great way to misdirect attention from her.

But that makes no sense in context IMO, because of her conversation with Dot while he was waiting for husband getaway car. Now it’s very feasible to me that Dot doesn’t know who H actually is, would make sense given he’s cagey, hiding behind voice to text* etc. But the way Kate speaks to him about confessing, working for monsters etc, it doesn’t make sense to me.

*TV tropes would dictate that the use of voice to text means that it’s either a woman or someone with a very easily identifiable voice. That would normally make you think of Ted, but it would also work for Osborne’s welsh accent. He’s still my top pick for H right now.

ScrambledSmegs · 25/04/2019 12:01

I've been rewatching S1 and Ted talks about his time in the RUC briefly when he's defending himself against Steve's accusation of possible racism re: investigating Tony Gates. He says that he and his best mate signed up and trained together. Went out on their first job together, the only 2 Irish Catholics, went over a pipe bomb, Ted barely survived and his friend died. Then it was all covered up.

Possible link with Corbett? Maybe the friend was Corbett's dad? Or something more to the story? Or maybe another Jed Herring?

ScrambledSmegs · 25/04/2019 12:03

Also, I'm wondering if Jackie Laverty will pop up as 'H' having faked her own murder with a seriously elaborate plot and the body in the lad's (Ryan?) freezer is someone else entirely.

At this point nothing would really surprise me.

MrsChollySawcutt · 25/04/2019 12:07

H can't be Jackie, we actually saw her having her throat cut and then bleeding out all over her cream rug.

ScrambledSmegs · 25/04/2019 12:09

Grin I wasn't serious. But good point well made!

BitOfFun · 25/04/2019 12:11

BillGigolo is definitely a wee gobshite- she's involved somehow!

ElasticFirecracker · 25/04/2019 13:11

I am wondering about the name or descriptor 'H'. That term only came into being because Kate asked Dot what letter of the alphabet the Top Baddie 's name began with , and then she goes through the alphabet until he indicates that it's 'H'.

Then in the next series, Hilton gets the recording (from Maneet) which had been kept confidential and starts saying, H is Hastings.

'H' now becomes the Top Baddie's name, and in this series everybody's talking about 'H' as if it's the actual name. This seems odd to me. Even the rogue UCO in the OCG knows to call him 'H'. When H is just the first letter of his surname.

SinkGirl · 25/04/2019 13:17

I agree Elastic, although I assume that the H label has been leaked through the OCG because of the video being leaked, so even those who don’t know who’s in charge may refer to them as H.

NotMyPuppy · 25/04/2019 13:26

One thing I don’t get - why is Steve telling Hastings where the meeting with H was relevant? Ted already knew there was a meeting set up between Corbett and H. He could presumably have it called off just as easily without knowing where it was. Am I missing something?

bibbitybobbityyhat · 25/04/2019 13:31

@ScrambledSmegs - I agree with your theory on the history between Hastings and Corbett.

I said this on thread 2:

"In an earlier series Ted talked (I think to Arnott) about being in a situation in the RUC when he survived and someone else (his partner/a colleague) didn't. So I'm guessing that was John Corbett's father. Dates would be about right. And both of his parents dying before he was 10 - that's a terrible history and maybe both of them were terrorists or RUC but in some way involved in the troubles. Whatever, there is definitely personal history between Ted and Corbett because Ted could not wait to get him off the scene (attacking Roisin aside)."

SinkGirl · 25/04/2019 13:34

Because Hastings isn’t actually H as far as we know, or rather Steve thinks he might be but isn’t sure.

If Steve didn’t tell Hastings and then Hastings showed up, Steve would think that proved Hastings is H or that Hastings was at least a leak.

If he tells Hastings about the meeting and then Hastings doesn’t show up, it proves nothing.

ScrambledSmegs · 25/04/2019 13:39

The only thing that makes me wonder, bibbity, is why would Ted want to kill Corbett if he knows he's the son of his old friend? Those Fahrenheit commands were pretty clear!

There's probably something else going on too. There are two more episodes left so anything could happen (even a zombie Jackie, but I have to admit that's extremely unlikely Wink )

I just listened to Shrine of Duty. How cute were they all going nuts over meeting Adrian Dunbar on the Late Late show?
