I only just caught up with the second episode of the new season and had been avoiding the last thread for a bit so as not to see spoilers and it is now full!

No, I think it was implying that Ted is going to get scammed again and he is suspicious, but so desperately wants his money back he is going to fall for it again

Yeah, I don't think it used to much be about Ted. Obviously, I, too, love Ted but am already finding this series too much about H and too much focus on the, no doubt, Ted Herring.

I am anotehr one with a guilty crush on Dot! And a very open adoration of Martin Compston.

Having a random moment, I wondered if H could stand for HER?

I hate Hargreaves (as much as it's possible to hate a fictional character) but he's been such a massive arsehole every time he's been on screen is that too obvious? I also think he seems a bit dim and H is probably fairly smart, if a bit evil.

I'm not a Hargreaves fan by any stretch but I have to say his interviewing technique is very entertaining 😂

I said on the previous thread that H could stand for 'heroin'. The idea of it being someone's maiden or previous name is definitely worth considering too.

I am still not convinced that we have seen the last of a) Dot or b) Nige. They were both such fab characters that the series suffers by them not being in it! Those stand off scenes in gloomy car parks and remote parklands.....terrific.

There must be a reason why Ted's wife is back again. The whole Kettlebell land/property issue is going to be significant but I haven't figured out how yet.

I have decided I don't want Steve to get back with Sam after all, she's a bit full of herself. I liked his other girlfriend , Nicola 'Jolly' Rogers. My dd thinks she is stunningly beautiful she's right I wish I looked even slightly like her

I find Kate really odd, particularly when she is around children and animals. The cooing over Denton's cat in series 3 and when Maneet was showing her pictures of her baby felt really contrived and false. I don't think this is remotely relevant to anything but it just jarred with me

I find Kate odd too. Every time she calls Steve 'mate' it jars with me - sounds so contrived. In fact I find Vicky McClure's acting style a bit hammy and unsubtle.

Yup I agree-I think I don't really rate Vicky McClure in this.

There was (what seemed to me) an odd scene where she got in from work in time to read a story or something.

The husband put his arm around her & they were looking into the son's room.
(or something like that)

Seemed an oddly contrived tableau somehow.

I always found Vicky McClure robotic. There are some actors who get a hell of a lot of work and are rarely off screen but that doesnt mean they're that versatile.

Just caught up rewatching the last series... had totally forgot how it ended!

Here are my random thoughts:

Jane Cafferty ID’d Maneet in the line up of photos,

Ted will receive a random payment which he will think is the Kettlebell compensation, but it will actually be money from an OCG. He’ll be planning to pass it to Róisín but the Polis will find out. Ted will cry “but the money was just resting in my account!” before being handcuffed and taken away.

H is Hargreaves. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Sam is sniffing around Steve again, she works for Hargreaves, as did Steve’s ex Jolly Rogerson. Hargreaves wants them to keep tabs on Steve.

I like the idea that Dot is alive, If he is, I expect to see him resurrected next Sunday (lol!). But surely if there was ever a character so determined that they’d karate chop themselves out of a coffin, it’s Lindsey Denton.

Operation Peartree was really about investigating Ted, the name being a nod to Alan Partidge’s Travel Tavern days.

So Corbett decided they deserved it or a member of his gang didn't follow orders?

Then the next time no one was shot-so that info didn't come from a bent copper??

Yet he thought that Maneet deserved to die?

Can't figure it at all!!

Corbett thinks bent coppers deserve to die, that's why some of Caffertys team were shot.

It irritates me that cafferty sounds a bit like laverty. I keep getting my series mixed up.

I'm sure H is not referring to anyone's name. It'll just be an unrelated code, bit clumsy otherwise.

Agree with pp Ted will get banged up for stupidly getting taken in by a compensation scam that'll be misconstrued as a bribe.

Fairly late to the LOD party, only recently watched s4 but it was tough going - too much Kate doing the Diana under the eyelashes look and Roz staring icily into space about 10 times per episode. Loved the acting of Keeley Hawes and Daniel Mays in 2 and 3. Also saw Dot in a different light after watching Bandersnatch

No theories to offer in s5, save for I suspected Lisa could be an UCO but have disabused myself of that notion 🤷🏼‍♀️

Corbett was a bit strange about Maneet's death. He admitted killing the bent cops in the ED905 ambush and seemed unfazed by it. But when it came to Maneet, he deflected and blamed AC-12 for shutting her out.

Can't watch tonight's episode as husband is on night shifts and we watch it together. Going to have to avoid this thread for the next few days!

Yes - that bit didn’t ring true for me either. I wonder if Steve is really falling for what Corbett says or if he is playing along?

I wonder if he backed himself into a corner with Maneet?

He told Lise he'd give her a chance to prove herself "useful", but then immediately sent goons to crash into her car and bring her in. Next thing you know, there's a recorder in her phone and she's off to be killed.

If he was expecting her to be bent, then he'd probably have been ok with killing her at some point. But the way it played out in front of the gang, he had no other choice.

My excellent DH told me to hold off watching it at 9pm and hold onto when I’m inevitably up at midnight/1am as pregnancy discomfort plus rhinitis is wrecking my sleep and typically I’m up for 2 hours at least.

So I’ll have to avoid this thread for a wee bit.
