here we are

OP posts:

What about the look Godmother gave HP and FB at the meal in ep1. It looked like she'd noticed their chemistry.

Soverytiredofeverythinggoingon · 04/04/2019 12:57

Found you!

Im wondering, did any one pick up on Bank Manager saying his wife would have loved the chatty Wednesday cafe? I wondered, is he sad seeming, because she's died/left him?
(may be reading far to much into it, or misheard)

Also, we don't actually know Fb is having sex with HP. We only know she's having sex with someone

I do hope it's HP, though.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 04/04/2019 13:52

Another thing I am thinking about is "are you a nostalgic person?". I think HP has come to the church to connect with warm memories from his past. It might be that the church or his priest was his only place of security as a child.

Connieston · 04/04/2019 14:11

Just done a forensic listen of Bank Manager saying how his wife would love chatty wednesdays and am fairly sure it's present tense not inferring she's dead or owt.

BertrandRussell · 04/04/2019 14:15

“That may have just been a personal boundary thing for AS as he's gay in rl?”
To quote John Gielgud “Try acting, dear boy”

BagpussAteMyHomework · 04/04/2019 14:33

He does ok with the snogging.

Might need to have another look.

DaedricLordSlayer · 04/04/2019 14:35

Connieston I've just rewatched both series, and agree it's present tense. He says he'll be back as his wife would love chatty Wednesdays.

Ragnarthe · 04/04/2019 14:44

Can we just stop chatting?

RuffleCrow · 04/04/2019 14:56

No, its chatty thursday.

RosaWaiting · 04/04/2019 15:06

Sisterself ah! I said on the previous thread, I think it's a body double. I haven't studied it but it wasn't just the person was a bit broader, but also the hair!

loved the Boots line. Totally going to use that.

I'm on episode 4 of Killing Eve. I did originally try it because of Sandra Oh. I love her and will never get over the absence of Cristina from Grey's!

RosaWaiting · 04/04/2019 15:08

the other thing about a body double, I don't think Andrew being gay has any relevance, but he's been friends with PWB for years and I can imagine both of them might prefer to hire a body double in that case.

Connieston · 04/04/2019 15:13

You can find the credits online and there's no mention of body doubles etc. I'm sure it's just AS. Peers. Rewinds. *Peers. Grin

SoHotADragonRetired · 04/04/2019 15:17

I love the intelligent female gaze aspect of this show and I loved it possibly even more in Killing Eve. PWB so brilliantly undercuts so many stock clichés of female characters and makes them real and nuanced but far from flawless.

One of the things I actually really loved about Sandra Oh in Killing Eve is how PWB did not pull the metaphorical punch in Eve's fight with Nico - she doesn't do the stock single slap to the face and then immediate angst "oh, no, what have I become?" - she steps into his space, slaps him, then pushes him - twice - for good measure. She doesn't shy away from showing what her characters are capable of - in every way. Which is why I don't think FB does have an "excuse" for fucking Boo's boyfriend.

The fact is that people, real people who aren't conspicuously "bad", do worse things than that every day. Fleabag is a messed-up woman and she's caused real people real pain. There's no chocolate box ending here.

Soverytiredofeverythinggoingon · 04/04/2019 15:18

Ah OK. I'll bow to those who have watched more times than me!

RosaWaiting · 04/04/2019 15:41

re names on credits, on reflection, I'm sure body doubles won't always be mentioned on credits.

RosaWaiting · 04/04/2019 15:41

please could we not have spoilers for Killing Eve? Sad

Sisterself · 04/04/2019 15:47

Soverytired.. I don't think there's any question she's having sex with the HP and I agree with whoever said up thread, the notion of a gay ACTOR refusing to do a sex scene with a woman is a tad ridiculous. I just got an inkling it wasn't actually AS - which could purely be down to scheduling issues or just a conscious decision by PWB as obviously we're meant to be focusing on her so she can shut us off by pushing the camera away. Goodness.... I'm putting far too much thought and analysis into this programme!

RuffleCrow · 04/04/2019 16:37

Rosa there's no question of her hiring a body double.

There's any number of reasons why an actor might not want to dry hump another actor Grin . As is the rule in feminism - any reason is acceptable.

RuffleCrow · 04/04/2019 16:41

Sisterself - i have to disagree with you there. Actors are allowed to have boundaries re nudity or anything else they're not comfortable with. We don't know what the boundaries of these particular actors are - but if a gay man chose not to do a scene like that it would not be 'ridiculous' - it would be understandable.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 04/04/2019 16:49

That may have just been a personal boundary thing for AS as he's gay in rl?

nah, surely not. it's called acting and he's good at it. He's not going to typecast himself, is he? Plenty of straight actors do 'gay for pay' - Cam from modern family, the bloke playing Will in Will and Grace. By the same token, many gay guys play straight parts just as well: Andrew Scott, Nigel Harman, Russell Tovey, Michael French, Neil Patrick Harris....I doubt any would refuse a sex scene because it wasn't gay sex.

Sisterself · 04/04/2019 16:55

I know, absolutely you are right of course ruffle. Actors do indeed have the right to personal boundaries. Having seen a lot of Andrew Scott's work, I just find it difficult to imagine that he would refuse just because he is gay, but we'll never know, and actually it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Besides we're only conjecturing that's it not him in that scene! Could well be.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 04/04/2019 17:03

he's been friends with PWB for years and I can imagine both of them might prefer to hire a body double in that case

They were in a play together 10 years ago but according to Grauniad: ''He was surprised when Waller-Bridge offered him the part in Fleabag. “We’d not seen each other for so long. But we had a natural chemistry then, and we still do.''

On top of which, the sex 'scene' looked like it was an easy shoot - barely there nudity, a couple of minutes footage required, a couple of thrusts Wink...and actors state that type of scene is always the least erotic, most functional/perfunctory type shoot they ever do.

RuffleCrow · 04/04/2019 17:04

Rage - as sisterself says we may never know. Yes, acting is acting and he's pulled off the straight thing convincingly enough to sustain both this thread and a whole host of media attention. Everyone the right to draw a line where they see fit though. I

Is Russell Tovey gay?! Not sure why i'm so surprised, maybe it's the 'laddish' stereotype.
