Surely just a little three week holiday...Wink

Superchill · 04/04/2019 08:22

I don't want to watch the final one. Last series it looked better in the penultimate one, only to go all tits up.

I'm happy-wedding cancelled as priest refuses. HP and FB happy ever after, C and K happy. BM happy with his pinny and new job. Hillary and Stephanie not yet hurt each other.

I want to quit while I'm ahead.

RuffleCrow · 04/04/2019 09:04

I may be irrationally optimistic but i think it's all going to be alright.

I don't think hp was talking about himself in episode 1 re his brother (fb isn't daft, i'm sure she'd run for the hills if she had any suspicions he was a paedophile) but definitely in episode 5 where he probably wanted her to pick up on the subtext and mirroring.

I still can't understand why she would betray Boo like that. It would take a level of amorality we simply haven't seen in her in any other context - sex addict or not. I think she must have had a motive that allowed her to justify it to herself at the time (jealousy/ feeling that Boo had betrayed her in some way). I think it will all come tumbling out in episode 6.

BagpussAteMyHomework · 04/04/2019 09:08

Chucking yourself in front of a cyclist to get your boyfriend to pay attention is seriously worrying behaviour. There is definitely more to this. FB feels guilty because of the boyfriend which is interfering with her grieving.

CookieSwirlC · 04/04/2019 09:35

Maybe the boyfriend slept with someone else first which caused Boo to do what she did and FB slept with him after her funeral which would still bring about the guilty feeling and like she’d betrayed Boo but it’s not as bad as being the cause of her accidental suicide.

Connieston · 04/04/2019 09:43

Bank manager is married and there's been no spark just friendship. Maybe he'll run the cafe with her but can't see romance.

I agree maybe Boo wasn't perfect. She had a very sinister expression when she appeared in the cafe in ep. 4. Maybe she bullied FB.

I'd love a mum flashback but I don't think that's going to happen. I think from what we've been told in season 1 she was a right handful.

I also agree FB was the golden child. Claire's insecurity and touchiness shrieks of a critical mother. not speaking from experience honest Grin

RuffleCrow · 04/04/2019 10:03

Trying to be objective because i quite like the idea of Boo: from what we know of her she seemed to be the driving force behind the rather twee cafe concept - with a childishly energetic 'fun' guinea pig obsession that fb seemed to go along with quite passively although she doesn't seem particularly bothered about either cafes or guinea pigs.

And the flipside was, again, quite immature complete emotional collapse when she found out her boyfriend was cheating. Maybe undiagnosed bipolar or similar - and if so, it's likely something sooner or later would have triggered her even if FB or whoever it was hadn't slept with him. So the chances are, the level of (catholic?) guilt and culpability fb feels is out of kilter with the situation.

merrymouse · 04/04/2019 11:32

Just realised that part of the reason HP has to turns up at FB's house is that it mirrors the first scene in the show where FB is standing at the door wearing the same coat waiting for Arsehole Guy to turn up.

I think we'll have to wait till next week to draw any further conclusions, but it's clearly intentional.

HoraceCope · 04/04/2019 11:32

I guess they got drunk together, FB and Boo's boy.
she went too far.
she hates herself

OP posts:
merrymouse · 04/04/2019 11:32

"has to turn up"!

merrymouse · 04/04/2019 11:34

(Although I think we can already draw conclusions from FB's different attitude towards the 4th wall in the two sex scenes).

Connieston · 04/04/2019 11:35

Does anyone know Latin and can translate the choral music? It's called Kyrie by Isobel Waller Bridge and it's on SoundCloud. I can't help thinking it's got to have relevance. All I can work out is that it's something about lord having mercy on a day of judgement?

makingtime · 04/04/2019 11:39

The Kyrie Eleison is part of the Requiem mass - a mass for the dead...

HoraceCope · 04/04/2019 11:41

Fleabag will put her demons to bed, find lasting solace elsewhere.

ThanksItHasPockets · 04/04/2019 11:46

The Kyrie Eleison is part of the Eucharist liturgy in both the Anglican and Catholic Churches, and is recited at every mass, not just a Requiem. No need to read too much into that. It’s Greek and means ‘Lord, have mercy on us.’

In other news: Fleabag’s influences has reached the M&S food hall: www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2019-04-03/fleabag-gin-and-tonic-sales/

Goatrider · 04/04/2019 11:47

I mentioned on the previous thread, I'm disappointed they had sex and I hope they don't end up together in the last episode.

ThanksItHasPockets · 04/04/2019 11:51

I really don’t know which way the finale will go.

On the one hand, a simple happy ending is the last thing I would expect from the series and from PWB so perhaps she will give us what we least expect.

On the other hand, episode 5 was careful to remind us of just how awful both the stepmother and Martin are. I feel like they are both capable of doing something pretty dreadful if FB gets in the way of their objectives (ie the wedding and the preservation of Claire & Martin’s marriage). If it goes tits-up it’ll be because of one of them.

maeb · 04/04/2019 12:08

How will HP upstage the wedding?

I'm firmly in the FB♡HP camp but life is never happily ever after and I don't think PWB would give us that. Confused

RuffleCrow · 04/04/2019 12:15

But who does that to their best friend, Horace? Really?

Cheating on a sanctiminious wet blanket dullard like Harry because you're drunk or bored is one thing (I've done it myself when younger & more fleabaggy)

but cheating on your one close friend -the person who really gets you and loves you as we've been led to believe? I remain unconvinced that would just happen through drunkenness with no other motivation. I guess we'll see. Or not.

HoraceCope · 04/04/2019 12:16

Did the bm end the last series, gave her a loan?

OP posts:
EBearhug · 04/04/2019 12:18

I mentioned on the previous thread, I'm disappointed they had sex and I hope they don't end up together in the last episode.

I think it was interesting we didn't see his face in the couple of seconds before FB flipped the camera off.

Sisterself · 04/04/2019 12:23

I think that was just because it wasn't Andrew Scott. Think it was just a body double. His hair just didn't seem quite right, and I've examined it quite carefully Grin

RuffleCrow · 04/04/2019 12:24

That may have just been a personal boundary thing for AS as he's gay in rl?

dontloseyourhead · 04/04/2019 12:35

The kyrie eleison being used was one bit I didn’t like - I loved the music but it felt a bit wrong to have that there. I’m not sure HP isn’t going to end up back in the Catholic Church and being forgiven.

dameofdilemma · 04/04/2019 12:44

As an earlier poster said, nothing is wasted. Every line, glance, gesture fits together seamlessly in a way that makes other series appear clunky by comparison.
