When is it back? I'm sure I read somewhere that it would be back in April. Does anyone have any theories about the storyline or characters?

The AC12 triumvirate comprising Hastings, Arnott and Fleming will definitely be back.

What about Roz Huntley? and her rather drippy DH ?

Wil Nige feature? and will we find out how and why Maneet was being blackmailed by Hilton?

I can't wait, frankly.

tinstar

'But one of the great features of LoD is the way story lines are kept going from one series to the next. It makes it a more challenging watch and a refreshing change from dramas where everything is conveniently wrapped up at the end of each series.'

Yeah , I know and I kind of liked it when things popped up again series 4 from 1, but it was too quick for me yesterday! The links were there from the start! But then maybe I have over done the LoD of late!

BanginHeadache · 01/04/2019 23:13

I wonder if Jackie lavertys ex husband is running the show from the other side- gangster side. If it’s still linking back to season 1. H could be for ‘laverty Holdings’.
Could be way off the mark but just an idea since he was meant to be a big wealthy business owner.

BanginHeadache · 01/04/2019 23:21

Sorry, H not for Laverty Holdings. H would still have to be in the police wouldn’t they. I think it’s Hargreaves he keeps cropping up. But I do think Jackie Lavertys ex husband may be high up in organised crime etc.

Hubblebubbletripletrouble · 01/04/2019 23:23

You guys must have a way better memory than me, I don’t remember most of what you’re referring to from series 1-4!!

longwayoff · 01/04/2019 23:24

Mr Laverty, very wealthy property developer. Upright Ted, all money gone in Spanish property deal gone sour. Hmm.

manicmij · 01/04/2019 23:39

It started last night 31st. BBC1 9 pm. It was great.

whenskiesaregrey · 01/04/2019 23:46

Mother of God, I think the 'is he, isn't he' re. Ted will be the theme of the series, ending in him being the good guy after all.

Phrase of all the series put together was went the bent lawyer told Ted not to go all Ian Paisley. Love it.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 01/04/2019 23:57

Someone tell me what OCG means please?!

AmIthatbloodycold · 01/04/2019 23:58

Organised crime gang

GrimDamnFanjo · 02/04/2019 00:03

Dot had a gambling addiction like Maneets cousin- wonder if that's how he was recruited?

BanginHeadache · 02/04/2019 00:15

I thought Dot was recruited from being young as he was Tommy Hunters golf caddy to begin with if I remember properly. I thought the gambling addiction would have come later. I could be wrong though

ElspethFlashman · 02/04/2019 00:35

I got organised crime gang all on my own! :preens:

Poor Maneet. Very upsetting with her little boy and all.

Honestly I was rolling my eyes a bit at how over hyped it was getting over the last couple of weeks but that opening episode was very very strong and I am thoroughly sucked in for now.

Custardee · 02/04/2019 02:14

Sorry if already been asked...where can you get the box set from series 1? Want to watch it, but from the veuginjjng. Thanks

longwayoff · 02/04/2019 06:12

Custard, netflix or maybe still on bbc iplayer

Northumberlandlass · 02/04/2019 06:24

It was on iPlayer last weekend as I binge watched the last season in preparation 🤣

FindPrimeLorca · 02/04/2019 06:51

It’s all on Netflix. Still on iplayer but you’d need to get a wiggle on, series 2 expires tonight, series 3 expires tomorrow night and series 4 expires Friday. Series 1 still available for 28 days for some reason.

pepperpot99 · 02/04/2019 07:40

BanginHeadache : Dot was recruited from a young age by Hunter and his associates to join the Police force as a spy for them. he helped him on the gold course, hence 'the Caddy'. In series 3 it emerged that it was likely - although never spelled out explicitly - that Dot, like Waldron and others, had been one of the many young boys abused by the paedophile ring comprising Dale Roach, Linus Murphy and the others on the 'list'.

I am liking the property link between Mr Laverty and Ted Hastings - nice one longwayoff, and I am also liking the gambling link between Dot and Meneet's cousin.

I need to re-watch episode 1 to gain some further clues!

Bumblebee2302 · 02/04/2019 07:46

BBC4 is repeating the whole thing at about 1am every night - seems to be two each night. Series 1 started late on Sunday night so Series 2 will maybe start tonight/tomorrow - if anyone wants to see all of it, set your series link now for BBC4 to get from S2 onwards, then you still have 30 days to see S1 on iPlayer

Acis · 02/04/2019 08:24

I've just had a thought. Maneet implied that she was being pressured/blackmailed from before she went on maternity leave (presumably with her second child) which happened in series 3, didn't it? So could the info she fed to Kate about Dot been deliberate to deflect attention away from someone else 'close to home'?

No, it was in series 4 - we saw her handing over papers to Hilton as a result.

I get the distinct impression that H is someone senior in the police force, which would make Corbett an unlikely candidate.

peridito · 02/04/2019 08:26

Mother of God I am so lost . Reading the BBC synopsis has only made me realise just how much I don't understand .

And ,God help me ,while I feel the love for Martin Compston ( the turquoise back of his waistcoat !!) I cannot get behind Vicky McClure .
Her character seems unbelievable to me ,she seems to manage to be wooden and to overact both at the same time .

ElspethFlashman · 02/04/2019 09:02

I don't mind Vicky McC in the office - she's supposed to be professional and a bit of a robot. But when she went home to her family it didn't work at all, cos we've never really seen her smile before, so it was all a bit disorientating.

Shes definitely not the most three dimensional character of the series. I mean compare her performance to Adrian Dunbars. There's no comparison with how they're both approaching it. He's really made something of a character that could be very one note. She hasn't, really. But since she plays an Office Boss, it doesn't matter too much that she's boring as fuck. It's just a missed opportunity.

TheSpottedZebra · 02/04/2019 09:39

But I like that though - usually with a female character she's driven by her emotions, and her home/love life is paramount. And if she's a mother, then she has to be driven by her love for her kids. Kate's home life is mostly irrelevant (apart from Richard Akers) and she doesn't bring it to work.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/04/2019 10:04

I have worked alongside police officers and Kate/Vicki absolutely embodies the characteristics of many of the female officers I worked with. Pretty hard nosed, wedded to the job and not likely to give much of their private life away. I think she plays the part to perfection.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 02/04/2019 10:34

I've seen Kate's deliberate and considered boringness at work - despite her fractious and unsettled domestic life, which we've been shown over past series - as entirely a reflection of what it means to be a successful working woman right now. Her bland expression is miraculous at repressing any representation of the turmoil she must have been feeling as her domestic life collapsed. Though I hope we'll be given some indication of how things have been resolved with her husband and child.
